So, did the Liberals find a secret Med School garden? |

I mean Jesus Christs, new schools in Victoria, Prince George and Kelowna?! That's a big deal.... I think it's ridiculous. Yeah, we need Doctors, but do we need three new med schools?

1. BC is so huge and so populated that they need rural doctors. It is |
|
a good way to get people to commit perhaps to a rural practice. The same thing used to be done in the 1900s. When you chose bright people to be doctors based on where they were likely to practice and where the most help was needed.
I hope it works for them. BC is gorgeous.

You'll be helping us as well, down here to your south....our med schools are overflowing, and we need doctors too--we don't have enough schools for everyone who wants training, and not everyone who trains here, stays here (unfortunately--it's why our health care sucks). You'll be able to charge full price on the tuition too!!!
Wouldn't that be something, if Canada becomes THE world center for medical training--it would be a good thing, a sustainable thing!

3. the Ontario tories must've given them directions |
|
I hope so! Just before losing the 2003 Ontario election, the Conservatives announced a new med school for northern Ontario, to be operated jointly out of Lakehead U (Thunder Bay) and Laurentian U (Sudbury).
(I just went to look at a Laurentian U site to see how it's coming along, and it crashed my netscape, so I'm not going back.)
Ontario has had a chronic widespread shortage of family physicians in recent years, so it sounded like a good idea. It wasn't enough to save the vicious Conservative govt from defeat, though.
May the BC Liberals find as little to help them in that garden!
I always just find that promises to fling money around on good works, made by a govt that has had all the time in the world to fling the money around *before* the election was called, look like, well, like a basket that a clever person might not want to be putting all his/her eggs in.
