Svend Robinson sentence... |
|
Your thoughts?
I think he got what anyone in that situation would have received. So, I'm happy.

I was wondering if you'd ever return.

while I'm pleased that it worked out for Svend... I don't agree that "anyone else" would have gotten off without a criminal record and no jail time. The average schmuck who pockets a very expensive diamond ring would find the courts less sympathetic -- even if they did the right thing, as Svend did, and turn themselves in as quickly as he did. They would still end up with the criminal record at the very least. Yes, I know he got a year's probation and something like 100 hours of community service, which is reasonable. He's certainly not likely to re-offend... as a thief... I have to admit that he's made a career of offending people and governments - it's one of the things I like the most about him. Sorry, couldn't resist the pun there.
It is amusing to consider that participating in a logging blockade got him jail time and stealing a diamond ring doesn't...

4. It does seem appropriate |

as he isn't likely to re-offend and jail time wouldn't serve any useful purpose. I too wonder though if somebody like me would have gotten off so lightly.
