EDMONTON – A Supreme Court decision allowing private health care insurance in Quebec "could substantially change the very foundations of medicare as we know it," the president of the Canadian Medical Association said.
And the decision is being praised by Premier Ralph Klein, who said in statement that he supports any changes that gives Canadians more choice in accessing health care services.
Klein has long promised to make radical changes to health care in the province to curb the cost of the system, going so far as to say he would violate the Canada Health Act. However, he hasn't made any concrete changes to the system.
