Cattle group says U.S. wants integrated market

A member of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association says some of the American producers who once opposed re-opening the border are now calling for a return to an integrated North American market in beef.

Brad Wildeman, the chair of the foreign trade committee for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association says it is a major shift in attitude.

The last time Wildeman met with American beef producers was in January. He says at that time all they could talk about was keeping the border closed to Canada, a country they saw as the source of all their problems.

He says they also discovered that international markets like Japan and Korea were not going to buy any American beef, as long as the United States was not freely trading with Canada.
