This may be the best thing Eno's done since Roxy Music.
"An unsullied, independent candidate, preferably wearing a white suit, to run against Tony Blair in Sedgefield and unseat the prime minister in his Labour stronghold on May 5? It's not such a crazy notion as it might appear. The idea comes from a group at Westminster calling itself "Impeach Blair", which has made little progress in its six month campaign to put the PM on trial for his conduct of the campaign against Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Now they have a new idea. Adam Price, the brainy but maverick Plaid Cymru MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, is working with Brian Eno, an ex-Blairite and formerly of Roxy Music, to find a Martin Bell Mark II who personally embodies trust and decency. Now that Nelson Mandela has retired, however, such paragons are hard to find, as Eno is discovering, though he is still looking."

1. Let's run Bowie!
Not that he particularly represents trust or decency, but that would be the most hilarious political event ever.

2. Er .. thanks but no thanks.
Did Bowie say that Britain needs a fascist Prime Minister and that, at 28, he is the man to fit the goose-stepping boots? Bowie would blush if he could spare the blood.

'If I said it - and I've a terrible feeling I did say something like it to a Stockholm journalist who kept asking me political questions - I'm astounded anyone could believe it. I have to keep reading it to believe it myself. I'm not sinister. I'm not a great force - Well, not that sort of force. I don't stand up in cars waving to people because I think I'm Hitler. I stand up in my car waving to fans - I don't write the captions under the picture.'

3. Yeah, I was joking.
Not a particularly funny joke, granted, but it makes a good image.

Bowie said a lot of really stupid things during his coke period. He makes a useful advert for the horrors of cocaine, given that, not only did he announce his desire to become a fascist dictator, he also believed that witches had summoned a demon to haunt his LA swimming pool.
