You are right when you say I am smart and that I love my country deeply. It is for these reasons that I hav studied the writings of our Founding Fathers. I like Madison, Jefferson, and my favorite is Ben Franklin. I've also studied the philoshophy that they read such as Locke and Aristotle. I can tell you history through the ages. What happened and why and the lesson to be learned. I see you supporting a man who has been corrupted by power, and has always been a victim of sloth, and apathy (happens to rich kids sometimes), and of course, greed. To me, you are attacking my very core values of what it means to be American and more importantly, what it means to be a human being. When I see something that is so completely against my sensibilities, my only option is to stand and fight and defeat it.

May God have mercy on your soul...

> You misunderstand me. I DON'T want mercy on your soul. I am your sworn enemy, and will not rest until you are defeated. I DON'T respect your differences and INTEND to be condescending to you. I give your ilk NO QUARTER. You and your beliefs are tearing the nation and the world apart. Jesus man, don't you think it's ODD that your hero Bush can't even go to CANADA without MASSIVE security detail? Canadians, some of the most laid back people on earth, despise you too. YOU set the tone my friend. YOU started the wars in the world. YOU set the majority of the world against us. YOU elected a man who is responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of innocent people. YOU are guilty of the worst crimes against humanity by association. And YOU will pay for it.
>
> I find your attempt to "reach out" patronizing and "quaint". The time for that type of discussion is long gone. You SHOULD have done that when we asked for no drilling in ANWR. You SHOULD have done that when we asked for more responsibilty with the surplus so that we wouldn't have a HUGE deficit that is wrecking the dollar value. You SHOULD have "reached out" when we asked for the inspections to continue. You SHOULD have reached out when we asked that polluters not be abgiven free reign on our environment. You SHOULD have reached out when there was no WMD was found and we asked that our people, and theirs, not be killed needlessly. You SHOULD have reached out when it became more than evident that Bush was LYING to us. The time for reaching out is over pal.

3. I see it as where they have put things
There are times to reach out, and compromise. The point I'm trying to make to this repuke is: Those times have gone by. We have tried for the last 4 years to work with them.

As for me, I remember being in shock four years ago when Bush stole it the first time. I couldn't believe what was happening to my country and thought about leaving back then. At times, I feel like some people are just now getting as upset as I was 4 years ago.

I gave it a chance, hoping that maybe my fears about Bush were unfounded after all. Nope, he turned out maybe even worse than I expected. I, as have others, have tried to make people on the other side "get it" for the last 4 years, and they refuse. They have dug in their heels to deny us our most basic human rights.

The tree of Liberty must occasionally be watered with the blood of Patriots and tyrants.

28. Too Late to talk to them. They don't listen and absorb any
logic. It is like they are lobotomized. I say fuck them. Just concentrate exclusively on our own base. Remember it is MUCH bigger than the election shows. Don't try rolling the ten commandment statue back in Montgomery - just solidify our party

You are pretty much discarding all of your principles to hate a repuke. It seems they have won and you are sinking into dispair.

And you should be to. I have no desire for friendly discourse with anyone who has assaulted my Country the way they have. The way they have eroded the dignity of my homeland is intolerable.

It should be to you to. Shame on you.

8. Take some deep breaths
Republicans in general aren't the enemy, it's the leadership and the criminals that have heisted this election from us that are the enemies.

I really don't know the point of your posting this thread in the first place?

what was your point? Is this a DU'er? Or just someone you call Repuke?

I've read your posts on a lot of threads and see you as really trying to stir people up, call names, etc.

Have faith that this will work out, and work for it to happen.

11. Stand up for your Views!
I agree with you. The time for trying to be tolerant is gone. The repubs are trying their best to cut us out of power, and I for one am sick of it. You certainly did seem intolerant of the person's views that you were writing to, and I'm sure you realize that. But we aren't going to win anything by always saying "You have a point and maybe I should go rethink my position". Stand up for yourself and your views. Good job.

I give the repuke no quarter because I want him to see, and I want you all to see, that I am dead set against what they are trying to do.

Call me extreme, but I will die for the principles that I now see under threat by these people.

25. No offense, but you can have passion without put-downs
You had an argument while your repub counterpart was offering dialogue. It does nothing to further anyone's agenda but your own to be patronizing to someone else's beliefs by making statements about being lazy and god having mercy on his soul.

And don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I managed to convince several republicans to vote Kerry instead. I didn't do that by telling anyone to run and hide.

14. We didn't try to rationalize with Hitler either
This president is guilty of criminal behavior and I don't think we should be in discourse with them anymore.

The time for that is over people. Many of you will hold true to the perception of liberals being "spineless", I want to stir your passion. Others are as fired up as me, and I want yours to grow.

We have been attacked by this administration, we need to fight back.

Do we let terrorists "reach out to us"? NO

The writing was on the wall long before this election. Wishful thinking is precisely that. Ultimately, it's not even Dems vs. Repubs. Some of the most outspoken opponents of this criminal regime identify as Republican. See, for example, Karl Schwarz. *Those* are the people to reach out to, not their brainwashed apologists.

What part of criminal abusers don't people get? What part of fascist ideology don't people get? What part of Orwellian newspeak don't people get? What part of treason and mass murder don't people get? What part of private ownership of voting mechanisms don't people get?

...mostly lurkin' and learnin. ...have spent a year and a half in the 911 truth end of things, and am tired of being marginalized. With the heat generated from the "election", it was time to guage the larger political climate, and see what efforts are consistent with slaying the dragon. I'm a lifelong Democrat, but have felt disenfranchised. I'm a proud tin foiler, with Orwell at the center of my understanding, and am trying to understand where the bridges are between radical idealists (i.e. those advocating that 2+2=4) and folks in a position to actually do something.

17. Steamroller or pavement, everyone: those are the two choices, now
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 05:52 PM by understandinglife
Plenty of very fine Republicans had already opted to support Senator Kerry before the election. They are not the problem; they are not the enemy. And, I think they'd be jumping for joy if we suck it up and halt this election, force an investigation and force a fair and verified vote.

The enemy is the group of 'theocratic imperialists' who hijacked the Republican party in the 1990s, hijacked our Democracy on 6 Jan 2001, and are now moving quickly to pave everything left that resists them.

Yes, what you hear is a very big engine; what you smell is a massive amount of exhaust and that thing you are staring at is a big metal object that is going to crush you unless you have what it takes to jump the driver and halt the thing.

It's now, now, everyone.

31. I don't see how you gain anything..
...when you talk to people this way.

Your emails to this Republican person are just nasty in tone and spirit. The Republican actually seems far more tolerant, understanding and perhaps even reachable had you gone about this the right way.

Now, through your bitterness and venom, you've probably made it all the more difficult to get through to this person.

You do realize that we need to bring people over to OUR side, not offend them to the point they will never consider what we have to say.

Do you think you've got enough people and public opinion on your side to advance your agenda now? I've got bad news for ya, the Republicans are winning elections and we are losing. Pissing off and hardening people against us will never help.

This email exchange only proves to me that you've a lot to learn about the world. What you've done here is a liability to the Democratic/Progressive cause, not an asset.

Imajika

35. tbuddha - here is my experience
I have a Repub friend that I wrote a brief note to right after the election. I entitled it "So, did he really win?" and mentioned the facts re: voter fraud, thinking he may engage in dialog.

He wrote back (paraphrasing): I know, I felt like that when Clinton won. You'll have another chance in another four years. Hope we can still work on furniture together." (we're both woodworkers).

I stared at it for the longest time until I finally realized: he doesn't get it.

The fraud, the lying, the frat boy hi-jinks, the theocracy in waiting. He doesn't get it. He doesn't see it. More importantly, he doesn't WANT to see it. They truly are living in a world of their own make-believe when it comes to what is happening to this country. They rationalize, as did your friend, by professing knowledge on all subjects, yet turn the blind eye when someone shines a light into their own cozy rat hole. Call them on the lies and all of a sudden you're "angry", or "out of control", or, worse yet, the dreaded "mean." Get it? Bush is "straightforward", Limbaugh "tells it like it is", but when you stop them dead with the truth you're one step up from Satan.

My friend's patronizing tone to me (and I am not convinced that he meant it) is what Limbaugh, Hannity, et al. have drilled into his skull for years now. We are to be pitied, chastised like little children, and then destroyed. Do not think for an instant that your friend would not like to see every last progressive on earth fall by the wayside.

Listen to a born again fundy talk sometimes - same pattern. They'll take your rights from you, slam their religion down your throat, doom you to eternal hell if you don't fit the boy/girl mold, then smile gently and wonder why we just all can't get along. They complement your new suit just before they shove a knife into the middle button.

I can understand where you are. I really can.
