If I were Keith Olbermann here's what I'd do
I'd tell Bev not to bother coming on the show if she isn't going to bring the tapes. Then I'd say, on the tube and in my blog, "We were willing to reschedule Ms Harris to appear on our show, but since she refuses to show the tapes we do not believe that anything she says would be of any real value from an evidentiary point of view."

Then I'd let her stew. But, hey, it's just me, Jersey Devil and not Keith Olbermann.

2. granny, I've spent most of the morning trying to figure that out.
Lots of emotion being slung around. Bev apparently--from what people who have worked with her say--hasn't been as generous with sharing credit as she should be. She appears to be holding the evidence from Volusia County close to her chest, much to the bafflement of Keith Olbermann. Now it's turning into a he said/she said thing, much to the bafflement of all of us who think both of them are good guys.

My personal take is that there's an element of Clash of the Titans here. About who "owns" the story. Is it the woman who started concentrating on the issue two years ago and hasn't stopped, or is it the man with the tv venue who has gone out on a limb unlike his pundit brethren?

As someone who is just watching all this with bemusement, I'd call for a time out for both of them, as well as for the wounded egos here. I know it's a time-sensitive issue and EVERYTHING is tending to heat up, but I sure wish it would cool down some.

4. It's not about sharing credit
it's about her attacking her allies and threatening them with law suits. KO is just the latest in a LONG line of victims.

The story is MUCH more complex than "Clash of the Titans".

23. what makes you think so? I just seem to read alot here about Bev behaving
badly. She sounds like she has some difficulties communicating with others without letting hostility enter into the dialogue. I hardly see that as projection on my part. I've had therapy over the years, so I guess I just recognize someone else who might benefit from it. It doesn't take away from anything positive she has done or is doing, just an observation about improving her interpersonal skills. She is representing our cause to a degree and so we all would benefit if she didn't alienate people who are actually trying to help.:-)

21. Instead of telling us what it isn't, why don't you tell us what it is?
There was an accusation that BevHarris threatened DU with a lawsuit two weeks ago. Somebody linked to the thread where she supposedly did that (I pasted the exchange below). I don't see a threat; I see her pointing out what might jeopardize her nonprofit status. Somebody else said she was bitchy about it. I don't see that either. What I AM seeing today is a lot of people harrumphing that a lot of DUers don't know what we're talking about, except they aren't doing a lot to clue us in.

103. NOTICE: Please cease and desist using the registered name "Black Box Voting Cleanup Crew" and "BBV Cleanup Crew" belong to Black Box Voting, Inc., a registered 501c(3) nonprofit group.

By all means continue to do your important work, but you must do so under your own trade name, not ours.

Can you imagine if I started organizing a group and calling it the PFAW Election Protection group? Doesn't work, folks. Get your own name, and do it now.

104. Thanks, Bev, for all you are doing. I am just trying to help and donate. .
. . . time and money to as many groups that seem like they are doing their own part.

IMHO - a thread name isn't the same as an organization, but I do hope the name thing gets sorted out. We NEED your energy in the fraud action! You are one of a kind. I don't know how you keep it all straight.

BevHarris:
105. Actually, this isn't a minor thing. We are a registered 501c(3) tax exempt organization, and the wrong post using our trade name could jeopardize our nonprofit status. It is imperative that we maintain message control for this reason.

Everything I've seen here is valuable work, but imagine if I named a thread this: "PFAW Election Protection Volunteers sign up here"

-- That would produce yowls from People for the American Way and their related entity, Election Protection, if I did that without consulting with them and then started collecting volunteers under that name.

The details are important. We're closing in, and the last thing we need is an investigation into something some DU poster said under our trade name. Thanks for understanding. And wait for news this week.

106. "wrong post using our trade name could jeopardize our nonprofit status."
Ah! Thanks for this. I, of course, didn't think of that. I can't wait until next week. Sending good thoughts. Take care of yourself if you find the time to do so!!

107. WORK crew (write, organize, research, kick) idea to replace cleanup crew?

BevHarris:
108. Outstanding. Describes what it does beautifully
Because the research being done is just outstanding, isn't it?

3. Both Bev and KO have been...
...valuable assets in an attempt to shine a light on our electoral process in their own way. Of course, their 'followers' have decided its an all out war, which is, frankly speaking, some of the stupidest shit I've ever heard of. Without Bev, many of US wouldn't be aware of the flaws and potential vulnerabilities in the system. Without KO, many of THEM would not be. Watching this silly bitchslap contest occur on this board is just sad and stupid. If I wanted to watch petty high school politics, I'd go back to high school...

9. I think a reasonable compromise is this...
Ask her to show the polling tapes exist--that they're officially signed polling tapes that were in the trash--but without revealing the specifics (i.e., the exact polling tapes she has and what the numbers show) that would damage the lawsuit.

This would demonstrate highly suspicious (and illegal) activity on the part of the Volusia officials, yet would not give those officials information they could use to cover their tracks if there are discrepencies in the counts.

13. This sounds like a plan!
I think that kind of compromise would satisfy Olbermann, provided he could verify what he was looking at while promising not to reveal the information himself or the numbers (since that would give away the precincts) except to say the numbers do not agree with the reported numbers. This could work imo.

18. My take is that the aim of BBV is not immediate gratification re: this
election. We would like it to be but its just not. It looks like long term fraud investigation is BBV's MO, and come what may their sticking to that approach. I don't have to like that, but I can't change it either, and I know that being strictly non-partisan that approach has merit to it. So instead of hanging our hats on non-partisans I think we need to do what we can to investigate and bring forward fraud appart from BBV. And their are plenty of opportunities to do that. We can't look to any one particular leader to fullfill all our needs. Personally I'd like to #1 find out if Kerry actually won and then #2 work on voting fraud, so I know my priorities do not line up w/ BBV's. Rather than expending lots of energy on someone who doesn't share my precise goals and getting upset about that, I'd rather find others that share my goals and work together.

20. Yes, good point, but then, why the stunt yesterday with LePore?
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 02:09 PM by Jersey Devil
If BBV isn't trying to get loud, immediate attention, then why did they crash LePore's retirement party to serve her with a summons and complaint, stopping at the microphone of all things to announce what they were doing?

That brought it to the attention of KO and she has been used as an example of the tinfoil hatters complaining about the election due to her decision not to show the tapes.

The coin has two sides. She has gotten contributions from DUers but has no responsibility to them? Did you catch the post by her supposed spokesperson saying, basically, the tapes our ours and we'll do what we want with them?
