4. NewsHour shot most of it. There may be some ABCnewsfeed files perhaps
nothing good from "citizen" sources.

--I'm sorry to say they are very timid and non-committal on this issue. No alternate sources, just the pro-establishment people from HAVA, along with non-partisan VoteHere. They take no position on the possibility of fraud, merely mention that "some-people say" etc. Disappointing. Why bother? (IMO)

Watch it anyway and send them your opinion. They like feedback, and pay attention to it (sometimes)

Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 03:49 PM by GregD
but I'll throw ya a hint...

Votewatch has been quietly working in Ohio for almost 2 weeks gathering data for an audit.

If folks have a couple bucks left from your * taxcut, Votewatch and the other non-profits that quietly work behind the scenes (like www.votersunite.org) can use financial help.

on edit - typo & revised title

24. says "scientific studies" of the voting process have been rare

VoteWatch founder---collected infor in NM, OHIO, and NV (that must be the 'footage' they were speaking of earlier.

Poll watchers collected data at the polls for research (American Statistical Association). Need to have researchers--not just politians!! (now that is good)!!

90% in NM not confident that their vote would be counted (did I heard that right?)

22. Just watched it -
Main thought? It wasn't presented like fraud. It was frustrating to watch. Secondly, I have a question:

Are the complaints we are reading about exaggerated or was the media once again totally downplaying them? Example "long lines - like over an hour . . ."
No Sh**! I guess 6-8 hours is over an hour but in my book it goes beyond calling a long line - or an "over an hour" wait.

The sad thing is unless the data is presented in the same strategic way it was "used", most are not going to catch on. I listened to that report and thought to myself, "no wonder my friends look at me like I am the one who is missing something!"

28. Black neighborhoods in Ohio had FEWER voting machines for 2004
than in 2002, because Republican Matt Damschroder of Franklin County moved voting machines from black neighborhoods to white neighborhoods.

Everyone was expecting big turnout.

Matt Damschroder took $5-10 million in federal money. Where did the money go?

27. INCH BY INCH
I watched it too.
No, it wasn't fun to hear the guy say he didn't think the election numbers would be changed.
However, I am a totally 'glass half full' kind of person. I'm willing to think of it as a 'toe in the door'.
PBS is talking about it.
The audit WILL take place.
It will be in the news.
The demonstrations on Saturday will get noticed.
Jessie Jackson will get some press.

I've got to believe it's not over.

29. PBS Newshour Coverage is VERY Encouraging!!
Jim Lehrer's Newshour is the ONLY television news I trust. I watch it from start to finish most days; I only check out the other channels to see what it is they expect us to swallow next.

The fact that the investigation of the election was covered on the Newshour tells me that they believe the story has "legs". Frankly, I thought they did a terrific job of introducing this issue to the public.

Did anyone notice that they actually used the "F" word? That was incredibly meaningful to me, considering the source.

I hadn't read any of the "head's up" posts on this thread before I watched the show, just came home from work and turned on Jim Lehrer. I saw the "Voting Science" leadin, and almost jumped for joy when I saw the piece.

This is BIG!!!!!

34. I agree
I thought it was really good almost non-biased(they did have that one guy say he did not think it would change the outcome. It was a good 20 minutes of coverage. It is good to know that a scientific study was being done on this election around the country.

The link is in one of the messages above. Thank them for covering election fraud (use the f word), and ask when they will have a followup program that goes into more depthl.

32. I'll not bang my head against their wall
It never ceases to amaze me the (frequently shattered)faith people still put in the fascist corporate media. After years of directly studying the influences of NSA/CIA/VOA and consolidation, watching the extinction of journalism and seeing the results of all this, I know a lot better than to expect Jim Lehrer and his VOA bosses to have some liberal epiphany. The longer everyone pretends or fails to understand the reality here, the less likely we will prevail. The fascist media IS our biggest problem/enemy of democracy. NPR, C-SPAN and PBS the worst offenders of all.

NPR, C-SPAN, and PBS the worst offenders? Have you ever watched the nightly news on any network? How about Fox News Channel?

No network is perfect, but at least C-Span provides relatively unedited footage. NPR generally avoids shouting matches. And the NewsHour is a whole hour, with debates by semi-intelligent people, with anchors that actually seem to have brains.

I think most people are figuring out that if you want to know what's actually going on, you have to factor in a good dose of whatever people are saying on the Internet.
