Kerry's win in Summit certified

Count of provisional, absentee votes gives Democrat bigger lead here and in Stark

By Lisa A. Abraham
Beacon Journal staff writer

Summit County was one of a handful of counties across Ohio that certified their election results Wednesday -- the deadline for making Nov. 2 vote totals official.

Sen. John Kerry widened his lead in the county, capturing an additional 3,681 votes when provisional ballots and absentee votes were added.

President Bush's vote total increased by 2,369 votes, according to the official count.

Overall, Kerry captured 156,578 votes in Summit County to Bush's 118,553.

In Stark County, where the elections board also certified results Wednesday, Kerry again increased his margin over Bush from 2,436 votes in the unofficial total to 3,127 votes, according to the official count.

The final totals have Kerry winning 95,338 to 92,211.

In Franklin County, which includes Columbus, Kerry had 54 percent of the vote, or 285,500 to 237,252 for Bush, said Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections.

Kerry's lead in the county widened by 7,171 votes from the unofficial results, largely because a computer glitch on Election Night recorded an extra 3,893 votes for Bush in one precinct. The rest of the change was because of a Kerry advantage in overseas absentee ballots and provisional votes, Damschroder said.

A large part of the certification process included verifying more than 155,000 provisional ballots cast in Ohio. According to a tally of the state's 88 counties by the Associated Press, 121,598 provisional ballots were verified and counted.

Final vote counts also include absentee and overseas ballots.

Despite Kerry's picking up votes, it's unlikely the result of the presidential election will change. President Bush defeated Kerry in Ohio by about 136,000 votes, according to unofficial election results.

12. Have Any Of These Glitches Gone for Kerry?
Any of them? ANY?

I've not heard of a single case where a glitch went Kerry's way.

This stinks to high hell.

14. How do we find more "glitches"?
How many more glitches have not yet been found? How did we find the ones that were found? Was someone honest involved in the process, or was it someone just smart enough to look and compare the data on hand?

16. Of course if they DID
go the other way, all you'd hear would be

"They "found" another 3,900 votes for Bush. Somebody's manufacturing them...."

10. What is the difference between a "glitch" and "negligence"
...The computer vendors were on notice and failure to check these systems to make sure this type of thing was not possible sure sounds like fraud to me.

11. I love hearing it.........
I will always be proud to say my little part of the election was to help moveon pac in Summit County where I live. Our neighbors in Portage and Stark (first time ever they failed to be the bellweather) also went for Kerry/Edwards. I know it isn't over yet, but I am damn proud to hear this. Thank YOU.

Hell before all of this is over it is hard to tell what all will be found. I'm just glad it is being found and exposed for all to see and hear. Especially so for all the dumba$$es that did vote for chimp.
