3. They are behind the scenes, apparantly.
Here's the letter they sent. It sounds good to me!

Dear MoveOn member,
Out of the 2.8 million votes cast for Governor of Washington State, the final margin was razor-thin. Dino Rossi, a conservative former state Senator, was ahead by only 261 votes. Then a recount brought the margin down to 42 votes. Now, Christine Gregoire, the Democratic candidate, is calling for a hand recount – which could easily make her the victor, since recounts typically favor the candidate who is behind.

The catch: a recount costs at least $750,000, and Gregoire needs to raise that money by tonight to pay for it. Can you help? We are 42 votes from an important progressive victory. To support the Washington recount, click here:

http://www.moveonpac.org/donate/recount.html

A machine recount brought the margin down to 42 votes after a number of counties found votes that had been previously uncounted. But there are still irregularities: counties that can't explain where they found additional votes, precincts with more votes recorded than there are registered voters, and voters who were inexplicably purged from the rolls. And with only 42 votes in the balance, the error rate for voting machines is 1,000 times the vote difference.

MoveOn PAC is supporting recounts and investigations in Ohio, New Mexico, Nevada, Florida, and elsewhere with volunteers and in other ways. And any funds MoveOn members donate beyond what is needed in Washington will be directed to make sure all votes are counted and election anomalies are uncovered in these other states. But nowhere else is victory so close at hand.

As Washington's attorney general, Christine Gregoire led the national effort to negotiate the tobacco settlement and has been a leader in the effort to protect privacy and combat identity theft. By contrast, her opponent, Dino Rossi, had an unbroken conservative voting record in his last year in the state Senate. Gregoire is a candidate worth fighting for.

The Republican spin machine is in high gear, trying to paint Gregoire as selfish or a sore loser for exercising her right to a recount. But until all the ballots have been fairly tallied, this election is not over, no matter how much the Republicans wish it were so. We simply must count every vote. And Christine Gregoire is determined to make sure that happens.

But, she needs our help. The total cost of the recount is likely to exceed $1 million, and without a $750,000 deposit, a statewide recount cannot proceed. The Democratic party has contributed and Democracy for America and other groups have raised money from their members for the effort. Our goal is to contribute $250,000 of the total cost. The deadline is today, so please contribute right now and we'll transmit the money to the recount fund immediately.

Then, please forward this message to a friend who also wants to see every vote counted.

We are 42 votes from an important progressive victory, and once all the votes are counted, our odds are good. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

--Adam, Eli, Hannah, James, Justin, Laura, and the whole MoveOn PAC Team

4.  From MoveOn: " Thanks for putting WA recount over the top!"
From MoveOn: " Thanks for putting WA recount over the top!"
Dear MoveOn member,

We're excited to tell you that your contribution yesterday not only helped us hit our goal of at least $250,000 to contribute to the Washington State recount but put the Gregoire campaign over the top. They announced today that they have successfully raised the minimum $750,000 that they need to proceed and they have called for the hand recount to begin. Christine Gregoire called personally and asked us to express her gratitude to you and other MoveOn members for helping ensure that all the ballots will be counted fairly.

Our efforts won't stop here: in Washington we are also recruiting MoveOn members to volunteer as recount observers, to watch that each ballot is counted fairly. A few thousand other volunteers have signed up for recounts in OH and NM. And additional funds raised above the $250,000 for the Gregoire campaign will go to support recounts and investigations in other states--overall we raised more than $400,000 including contributions from every state plus DC, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Fair and open elections are crucial prerequisites for a healthy country. Thank you again for your contribution and your help in safeguarding our democracy.

Sincerely,

--Adam Ruben

5. I didn't get that e-mail from MoveOn...
Or the previous one asking for donations. I wonder why that happened? I've been on their mailing list for well over a year, and received all the e-mails about the house parties they had a few weeks ago. I did make a small donation to the Washington recount but it was through another website.
