MoveON: Count Every Vote – Act Now!
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 04:34 PM by GregD
Dear friends,

http://www.usvip.org is a new organization that has formed in recent weeks. We are a media project targeting electoral integrity, transparency and reform. One of our core team members is David Mathison, a former Reuters Vice President. As we move forward, we plan to assist the larger community of voting-rights and election reform activists by helping to frame the debate (concerning such reform), to serve as a clearinghouse of information related to media coverage of those efforts, and strategies to convince them to improve such coverage.

One of the first efforts of USVIP.org is to ask MoveOn to support the initiatives we list in the post below. If you would like to support our campaign, please go to this page, log in (registration required), find our post, check "Agree", and give it 5 stars. Then hit submit.

More details are here. Please be sure to register with us so we can keep you alerted as to upcoming actions.

Under the heading Count Every Vote - Act Now!, we have urged MoveOn to support these goals:

Electoral Reform, Step 1: COMPLETE THE VOTE!
Electoral Integrity was the top priority of MoveOn members at last month's house party. We took the first step with the "Get Out the Vote" campaign. Thanks to us (the MoveOn members), millions more citizens participated and exercised their right to vote. Now that the votes are in, they need to be openly and fairly counted.

The US General Accountability Office is investigating more than 57,000 irregularities reported by the Judiciary Committee. New counts are underway in Ohio and New Hampshire. Two lawsuits have been filed in Florida.

Let’s take the next logical step and join a “Complete The Vote” campaign. Safeguarding the sacred ground of democracy requires us to take action NOW. Here’s how:

1. Sign MoveOn’s petition to investigate the vote, and forward it to your contacts
2. Write and call the media. Ask for increased coverage.
3. Call your representatives via the U.S. capitol switchboard (1-800-839-5276). Insist that all ballots be considered for a new count to complete the election.

Require integrity and fairness TODAY. Take a decisive step towards electoral reform. Make the call for honest elections now - COMPLETE THE VOTE!

13. with on line voting only one person can vote. the Hacker.
Simple as that. Paper Ballots, with independent Audits is the only way it will ever be fixed. If we continue to give our voice to a computer, we will never be able to have any say in any election on any topic. Can our government ever give us the right to vote? I'm not sure. some how I don't even think that they can vote.

Paper countable ballots is the only way if you ever want your voice herd.

6. You know about "National Ballot Integrity Project" already?
All of the following groups are associated with National Ballot Integrity Project:
MoveOn.Org, Democracy for America, Common Cause, Verified Voting Foundation, Black Box Voting, True Majority, Working Assets, Rock The Vote, People for the American Way, Electronic Freedom Foundation, Voice for Change, Lawyers Committee on Civil Rights, CountTheVote.Org, Interfaith Communities United for Justice & Peace, Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, Voters Unite!, S.A.V.E Democracy, Votescam, and Coalition for Visible Ballots

National Ballot Integrity Project: <http://www.ballotintegrity.org/>

Maybe you (US Voting Integrity Project) should join forces with these folks?

I would encourage you (and everyone else) to go futher in what you are requesting of MoveOn and NBIP -- they should be (if possible) putting up the money for radio and TV ads, newspaper ads and so forth.

email: taskforce@ballotintegrity.org

15. I have to agree
Sorry to sound negative -- and congratulations to Greg on your new organization -- but if this is a "strategy," USVIP needs to step back and start over. I mean that.

MoveOn is useless. In the summer of 2003 there were hundreds of people (3 hundreds, to be exact) who begged MoveOn to get involved with this issue and they totally and completely ignored it. In fact, one of the activists finally was able to reach someone directly and all she got was a shrug of the shoulders on the subject.

As a result, I no longer see MoveOn as a force to be reckoned with. All their petitions are worthless too. The ads? Yeah, they were good, some of them were great. But if they can't be counted on to stand up for the big issues, then they're a distraction, NOT a strategy.

16. Gotta Agree with you, Eloriel
I don't want to slam MoveON.org...but I'm a bit disappointed in them so far. They don't seem to be doing so much...even though election reform is the number one concern right now from their own members.

Hopefully, they'll mobilize soon.

A fair sized group of folks agreed to pursue this action, and I'm just posting it. But I'll be happy to let them know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Greg

9. I voted! While I was there I also gave a "5" to:
Election Fraud?

Bush claims the Ukraine election was a fraud. The pot is calling the kettle black. Why is there almost no news about all the election misscounts and exit polls that said Kerry won but when the results were counted it went to Bush? In third world countries when exit polls do not match results, it is called fraud. Why did Bush!s controlled news hush it up here and find excuses for the difference? Howard Dean had a woman on TV before the election showing how easy it is to hack into the touch screen machines and change the results. If this is not investigated and proof found of who is responsible for the changes we are in a dictatorship which will get much worse. Nothing else matters if there is no paper trail to these machines, all future elections will be decided by the machine makers and controlers no matter how people vote. Watergate did Nixon in. Votegate if you can find the proof can and will do Bush in. For the sake of our people and our future you must solve this problem. This is important for our future and our place in the world. We need to earn
more...

12. The abbrevication GAO now stands for Government Acccountability Office
not General.

It used to stand for General Accounting Office before the name-change.
