Tens of thousands of supporters of presidential challenger Viktor Yushchenko have massed in the capital Kiev for two weeks, blocking government buildings and camping in the wide main street designed by Soviet planners for military parades.

The Supreme Court ruled in their favor on Friday, agreeing the Nov. 21 poll was rigged in favor of Kuchma protege Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich. A repeat vote is due on Dec. 26.

Parliament, swayed by the show of people power, voted to sack Yanukovich, whose election bid was openly backed by Moscow. But Kuchma has not signed a decree formally dismissing him.
