I know what I'm asking Santa for: A Kerry Christmas! *
Action Alert! Please take a minute or two to read the declaration (one page) at
http://thedeanpeople.org (This site is currently a shortcut to an HTML version of the declaration that can be printed as a flyer. Additional information and guidance is coming soon.)
The objective is use this declaration as the centerpiece of a very public lobbying effort; one that aims to shape the rhetoric and engage more people as we pressure our representatives to stand with us in the fight for the integrity of Election 2004.
Here's how you can help right now:
(1) Go to
http://thedeanpeople.org and print copies of the declaration and send them to your representatives. You can send it with or without a cover letter or note (perhaps just put a "sign here" post it at the end). Sending it to your own representatives is the top priority, but you can also send it to members in leadership positions and members you think are most likely to adopt it(e.g., members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Frank Lautenberg, and ??). If you can, follow up with a phone call a few days later.
(2) Ask friends and acquaintances to do (1)
(3) Spread the word on the Internet by “talking” about this effort in any discussion groups or blogs you visit. Ask them to do (1)
Whether or not members of the House or Senate "declare their intent," this effort can change the climate. We are organizing efforts to follow up with each and every member of the House and Senate to obtain a signature on a master copy and a public statement of endorsement. The more individual pieces of mail each representative gets, the better our position.
If any do sign, we can publicize our appreciation and use the gains to pressure other members (and to pressure election officials to conduct audits). If members decline, we can publicize it as a failure to stand up for our most fundamental principle.
If you have any suggestions, ideas, questions or would jsut like to discuss this effort, send an email to thedeanpeople@comcast.net.
