CNN: Democrats to investigate Ohio voting
<<SNIP>>
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/12/06/democrats.ohiovoting.ap/

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Democratic Party said Monday it will examine reports of voting problems in Ohio, where President Bush's victory clinched his re-election.

Outgoing Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said the party will spend "whatever it takes" to study complaints from Ohio voters that included uncounted votes, long lines, shortages of ballots, understaffed polling stations and voting machine errors.

...
McAuliffe said it's too early to tell if Republicans were behind any fraud that may have influenced the outcome in Ohio.

McAuliffe said he briefed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry about the study Sunday night and Kerry will be monitoring the results carefully.

Kerry often promised voters, particularly black voters, that his campaign would examine any allegations of voter fraud.

16. Isn't there something that can be done about that legally? In effect, do
those contradictory provisions of the law nullify the legally sanctioned right to a recount? What good is it to recount, if the recount doesn't count?

19. "What good is it to recount, if the recount doesn't count?"
Great question. Ranks up there with with these questions from sElection 2000:

"How can we do a recount if we only have 2 hours"

and

"You stopped the recount because it would cause 'irreparable harm'. Irreparable harm to WHOM?"

22. Well, I am also wondering if the changes to the OH election law could be
interpreted as indicating the legislator's intent to NOT take advantage of the safe harbor provision. (If you recall, it was the "intent of the FL legislators" that caused the Supreme Court to decide as it did in 2000). So that the recount would have enough time to be completed. I really wish I knew more about the law.

4. the article's last paragraph
Gotta love this:

Democrats want to ensure that blacks do not give up on the voting process because they are such overwhelming supporters of Democratic candidates.

This is presented as a fact, but it's little more than speculation on the part of the reporter. What evidence does the reporter have to conclude anything about the Democrats' motivation? Might respect for democracy be a factor, in addition to partisan calculations? This last sentence was included because it sounds like it might be true, not because it has any factual basis.

Sloppy journalism.

13. That is exactly what I was thinking. A lot of people have posted what
their responses were to the latest round of requests for donations and I believe they had no money available until the party starts tackling this issue.

Terry said that in the full article. Awful.

Well, i hope something gets done in time to help the Greens, who dont seem to say such mousey things.

Full article seems to say the invest. will be slow, fullsome, and not over till Spring. Awful.

24. Tired of this pathetic DNC leadership
I nominate Dean, Congresswoman Jackson-Lee or Mfume as chairman. Why don't they just tell us that this election should be invalid period. It's a joke they are just letting Smirky and Pillsbury get away with anything!
