I am going nuts with all these dates, and possible dates and legal stuff it's so confusing, or maybe I'm just not reading the right thread.

3. In terms of how long they have at least
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 01:31 AM by ahyums
I don't think there's any chance of them finishing before the 13th, so if there is a changed result it would have to go to Congress, so they basically have as long as they need I think provided they are finished by the 6th. I know a contradiction, but I can't imagine it lasting that long. (Although thinking about it I suppose if there were attempts to throw legal obstacles on the path it is vaguely possible)

4. It will probably start on the 13th and last 10 days.
Ohio law states that all candidates have 5 days to respond before the recount begins. Since the recount request isn't official until after certification (today), that means they won't start til the 13th and should end on the 23rd because it's required to take no more than 10 days.

If the vote is overturned, two slates of electors show up on Jan 6 and the house and senate sort it out (in Bush's favor no doubt, but with a LOT more publicity and knowledge that he really lost).

New Mexico will probably happen at about the same time.

5. I went to a meeting tonight regarding this
And (though this may only frustrate you further) the word is (from a Green Party spokesperson) that the recount could start as early as the 11th, or as late as the 16th. And it could take up to 10 days (I thought for sure it would take longer than that but that was what the lady said). She said they expect it to be closer to the 16th than the 11th but we need to be ready to blaze in and get started should it finally open up. Hope this helps. (Definitely makes travel plans difficult as well as trying to figure out how whether we will have to work around Christmas as well!)

10. No - i wasn't. I am just an infuriated
individual that can't take it anymore. I went through the last 4 years in misery - all with the thought that maybe * could be ousted. Although I always felt deep down that if the votes weren't there for him, the votes would be changed. Even though I "knew" on some level, when it slapped me in the face on Nov. 3, I just became enraged and determined then and there, to do something! Every day this administration spends in office further threatens the soul of our country. I know that sounds dramatic but it is how I feel.

I know going to Ohio for the recount is nothing compared to what some of you people do here everyday - crunching numbers, gathering data, here day after day, constantly plugged in and keeping this site up to date on all of the latest happenings. To be so underreported, there sure is a lot of reading to do! But unfortunately I am no mathematician, nor statistician, so I can't add any value on that level. And recently there have been too many demands for me to stay plugged in. Since staying in my own everyday environment makes it impossible for me to escape my normal responsibilities, I reasoned that the only way I can really be proactive in this effort is to go to Ohio and do what ever they need me to do. The timing stinks in more ways than one but I have already told my family that short of a death in the family or something equally urgent can stop me from going. This is just too important. The frustration of doing nothing these last 4 years - just biding time, waiting, watching - as the country I love has had its soul sold out from under it. It has taken its toll on me. I never feel at peace any more. So my hope is through going to Ohio and helping, at least it will be a contribution to the cause. Surely it will feel better than this daily angst. If our voting system is not fixed now, these newly hatched plots to plunder and steal will seal our fate. I don't think I will find mock elections very appealing.

I listened to the Thomas Hartman show all afternoon while I tried to catch up a bit at the DU website. I am so puzzled/confused. Why aren't the Republicans the least bit offended that this has happened? It happened to them every bit as much as it happened to us. I honestly believe if a Dem team had fraudulently stolen this election, I would be fighting just as hard for freedom and justice. And as far as I am concerned, justice means "you are OUT!", not let's recount the votes, but just as an exercise, it won't mean anything! No one talks of removing these thugs from office, except Arnebeck(?). Isn't he saying he is contesting the election, not requesting a recount? I heard a Republican call in today and asked why were we so mad? When it was Bill Clinton winning, we weren't crying foul, he said. For God's Sake! Does everything have to go back to Bill Clinton? Can we not ever have any discussion on the merits of GWB and Co without comparing the sins of BC?! The answer to his stupid question is, vote fraud may have been going on for a long time but 2000 was when it became evident on a wider scale - and when people began to put 2 + 2 together. Here is a question for Joe Rep: since he insist on bringing Bill Clinton into this, then just how does he think the Republicans would have reacted if what happened in 2000 happened in 1992 instead? And then again in '96? Jeez! They were all over him from the beginning - and if there wasn't anything nasty to report on him, they made stuff up. Yes, I know Clinton was a flawed individual, but at least he was smart! And you can be darn certain that if Kerry had seized the day on Nov 2, that there would be recounts and contests all across the nation. There is no way W would have quietly given up his seat, EVEN if it was legitimately won! Let alone if it had been stolen! Why can they not see this??????

Gee, I am sorry. I just don't get it. But sorry for this extremely long-winded answer to your very simple question.

7. The SOS has 10 days post official request for a recount
If he uses all 10 days the recount would start on 12/16/04
