As far as the Swifties are concerned, their goal was to defeat Kerry. In other words - mission accomplished.

As for Rove & the Republicans, the major prominent work is done. They know all this stolen election buzz will just fizzle.

Rove's goal was to establish a permanant Republican majority. Getting Dubya re-elected was the first and most visible step. Their conservative social agenda has already won over many "populists." Now they will finish dismantling the Democratic base. Dubya's policies will complete the job of relegating the Democrats to minority party status for years to come.

First, pro-business policies and outsourcing will finish the destruction of our Labor Unions, all the while making it sound like they are sticking up for the worker ("right to work" - yeah). The Unions won't be able to donate to the Democrats. Next, tort reform. Trial lawyers are the other major contributors to the Democratic party. Take away their revenue, another major funding source for Democrats will wither. Third, the "Houses of Worship Free Speech Act" will allow clergy to directly endorse candidates from the pulpit & maintain tax exempt status. The churches, etc that endorse Republicans will be granted additional money, supposedly for their faith based initiatives (which in practice will promote the Republican Party platform). Finally, the control of the media, allowing greater consolidation and ownership by those friendly to the Repub. agenda. These stations will shape the debate of issues on their terms all the while crying about the liberal media to enrage the "masses."

Rove is doubtless laughing as he watches Democrats scramble to figure out how they were beaten so soundly in this last election. He is waiting for our leadership's next move and he has already prepared responses for several possibilities. He is going to be working behind the scenes to get Bush's agenda enacted.

Your analysis is brilliant, but I think you should take it one step further.

The Rover Boys do not want to make it one party rule, as the Republican party is in danger of splitting into warring internal factions. The fiscal conservatives are on the edge of revolt as it is. The danger then would be a two or even three party system that would once again evolve into a conservative, moderate and liberal philosophies.

I think they are working on a tool-set to control election results with a greater accuracy, or to find a way to marginalize the effect of voting altogether.

I think if we were to search the thousands of pages of the laws that are being rushed though Congress, we would find a patchwork of self-referring laws that grant near-martial powers to the ruling party.

(But I do think your political analysis is brilliant. If only my paranoia had your logistical sense... )

1) waiting for the inauguration before doing anything truly radical. (effect is that once-inaugurated the burden on the plaintiff (us) goes up exponentially).
2) bushco doesn't want to begin riling the media up right now with so much potential newsworthyness in a possible stolen election. With a hard right-wing swing before the inauguration the media would find it an even more tempting area of inquiry than the fear generated by veiled threats to pull licenses if they allow discussion of election fraud.

I cannot help but notice that new documents on Abu-Grabass came out this week... From the administration (from an FOIA request.) It had to come out sometime, but why now?

Timing is everything in politics. Rove and his minions are careful to always feed the hungry lions daily, because if you do not give them a story, they have to go looking for one.
If you can't bury a story, use it to distract. Rove would rather deal with more Abu-Grabass fallout than Election Fraud, and stories like that make the MSM types feel like they're actually doing their job of watching the government.

Watch the stories that are in the news, especially if the source is the admin.
And with every story, ask "Why today?"
