Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski's e-voting experience
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 02:52 AM by RaulVB
Is this posted somewhere?

Why is it that Senator Mikulski is not asked to say something about the fraud investigation?

3. Good question
Mikulski is considering co-sponsoring of a bill in Congress requiring the voting machines to provide paper receipts verifying a voter's selections. Activists in Maryland are seeking a similar state requirement.

I think you might find out more about this.

The need is for a standardized system nationwide. Also, the "paper trail" requirement is only a partial solution. As we know, the problem rests with the electronic nature of vote tabulation. The paper trail is only useful in case of contests or recounts. This is not a solution to ensuring elections are transparent and secure. This senator needs an education.

I think you should encourage her to attend and to seek further education on the issues regarding security surrounding electronic voting.

I like Oregon's system. Mail-in ballots. Hand-counts with observers. This solves the problem of raising registration questions at the polling places, and eliminates the need for "voting machines" and provisional ballots altogether. The costs are far lower and the system is far more secure. Registration "issues" can be resolved in advance so that ballots cast are verified voters.

5. They make a distinction between accidents and fraud, and thereby dis Fraud
But I am glad you posted this. It inspired me to write to the Bakersfield Californian (thinking they might be somehow open to it) and ask them if they had heard of any of the allegations on vote fraud in Kern County. Madsen, FWIW, had said that KC was one of a few CA counties in which there was big vote padding. It gave the opportunity to tell them of the hearing tomorrow, C-Span, etc.

Who knows? Maybe something will come of it.

BTW, RaulVB, those Latino pollsters never wrote me back about which exit polls they were comparing. Have you corresponded with them? Maybe they would talk to you.

7. WCVI.org is their site, and here is the letter I sent before.

It seems like they provide important evidence in this tussle with Mitofsky. It hurts my feelings that they didn't respond. :)

agonzalez@wcvi.org; mgarcia@wcvi.org; raguinaga@wcvi.org

Dear Mr. Gonzalez, Mr. Garcia, and Mr. Aguinaga,

A lot of people have been saying that the Latino vote was not as high as reported, but you substantiate it the most clearly.

My question is, which exit poll are you using to compare against your results?

Was it the data put up that before it was corrected, or that fixed to match the actual voting results, the final "official" exit poll?

It seems like NBC might be misusing your story to cast the validity of all exit polls into question, rather than presenting it in the more honest light that your results did not match the official, final exit polls, which as a matter of course, according to Mitofsky, are weighted to reflect the final, "actual" totals.

Would you please help me to understand this better?

Sincerely,

XXXXXX
