DU Programmers? Triad Governmental Systems tabulators find
Does the following post on a forum dated Sept. 21, 2004 have any significance regarding OH tabulator fraud? Susan Truitt in the Conyers hearing specifically mentioned Triad. Warren County used Triad.

Subject: Number of bytes in an upper level directory? From: Cheryl Bellucci
Category: General Xenia, United States
Version: Visual FoxPro 6 Date: September 21, 2004

I have the need to know how many bytes are in a directory. This directory may include several subdirectories. Right now, I use ADIR() to traverse the different directories, adding the bytes in the files as I find them. This works, but as the directory includes more and more directories, it is taking noticeable time to determine the number of bytes.

Is there a system call or API call that I can use to get the number of bytes from the upper level directory?

Many thanks!

Mouse movement makes program run faster From: Cheryl Bellucci
Category: General Xenia, United States
Version: Visual FoxPro 6 Date: April 1, 2004

We are running a program that throws a form to the screen, allows the user to click a start button. At that time, the program processes. Right now I am using a series of radio buttons to show what the program is doing, along with a text box that displays the last Transaction ID that has been processed.

When running this program on XP, we noticed that the program processes faster when the mouse is moved over the form (happy accident). The mouse doesn't have to be moved quickly, just moved. One of our co-workers said that in XP, the mouse generates hardware interrupts that override software interrupts, so that any program someone is actively working on will take priority over something running in the background.

That makes sense. Can anyone confirm that? Also, if that is true, is there anyway to "fake" the mouse movements while the process is running?

Thanks!

Help with SELECT (SQL) From: Cheryl Bellucci
Category: Category Unknown Xenia, United States
Version: Version Unknown Date: June 7, 2002

Hi, all...

It's me (again). (No, I haven't gotten the previous problem -- form destroying itself after starting -- solved, but I got switched over to something else. That doesn't happen to anyone else, does it?)

I have a large table from which I need to gather specific information based on user input. The user gives the program the information on which to search (via a form). This type of information includes Names, Addresses, and other fields in the table. This is a large table (over 400,000 records, not huge... just large).

What I did was construct a "query" line that checks the fields from the user input. It's a long line (depends on what the user wants to search). It looks a lot like a filter line (I want the information for this line being true).

Example:
pcQuery = "(LastN = 'SMITH') .AND. (IDNum = 2) .OR. (IDNum >= 20 .AND. IDNum <= 29))"
(This is by no means an exhaustive line... the query line could end up being quite long... lots more fields to check!)

My question is, what is the best way to find out the information? I've looked into SELECT (and did a test), but I think my pcQuery line will be too long. Also, I'd like to do this in the fastest way possible.

Just trying to get pointed in the right direction... Thanks!

Custom Property for a Form From: Cheryl Bellucci
Category: Category Unknown Xenia, United States
Version: Version Unknown Date: July 2, 2001

I've got two custom properties on my form:

laStDir (array to hold all possible choices for Street Direction) and
laCDFOrder (array that holds name and index orders for sorting)

I have the code that puts data in those arrays in the INIT code of my form. However, when I run the form, I get "lastdir not an array" and the same for laCDBFOrder. But, if I close the form and run it again, it works. Where should I put my dimension and data code?

The display for Edit Property/Method is:

Type Access Assign Visibility
lastdir<1,1> P No No Public
lacdforder<1,1> P No No Public

10. It was Tod Rapp
He's involved with Triad, and also has a business called Rapp Systems. There was a picture of the two names on the same sign outside a small office building. I'll find the thread...

13. Dwayne Rapp on dimpled chads
"Counting those dimpled chads is definitely not right," Dwayne Rapp, vice president of Triad Governmental Systems Inc., told the Journal. "There are a lot of people who simply don't vote in every race." Rapp said he'd been contacted by Gore lawyers, who tried to get him to back their position. "The Gore people wanted me to say the Votomatic system was flawed. I won't say that. I don't believe it is."

5. Well, there's not a lot there to work with.

They're using FoxPro? That's not a "real" database is it? None of the programmers I work with seem to think so.

It sounds almost like a file system question, but I guess she is asking them about the file system in the database. She's saying that she needs to know how much data is in a particular directory, including subdirectories, and she is going through and adding all the numbers up, subdirectory by subdirectory, (which does sound pretty resource intensive to me) and she wants to know if there is a simpler way to do this task.

There's nothing particularly suspicious here, IMO -- others may differ.

Edited to add: This is only my response to your 1st post, I haven't read the others yet.

9. OK here is one that mentions writing to an Access database using VFP
Updating MS Access databases from VFP From: Cheryl Bellucci
Category: ODBC & ADO & OLEDB Xenia, United States
Version: Visual FoxPro 6 Date: November 26, 2003

Okay, I've checked the archives on this one, and I have a problem that the previous answers don't seem to fit.

I've got an MS Access database that I'm using in VFP 6. I need to read from and write to this database (and its tables). I've set up the Connection and I'm working through setting up the remote views. Now, many of the previous answers remark, "Be sure to click 'Send SQL Updates' to be able to update the table." Okay, in my Remote View wizard, the 'Send SQL Updates' is grayed out... I can't check it. (The mdb is not readonly, I checked that.)

(I've tried updating the Access tables without this option... the View looks like the table is updated, but if I close and open the database again, no updates are there.)

Any ideas? Thanks!

14. Nothing odd about the programmers questions
I don't know anything at all about Triad. But there is nothing suspicious with regard to potential vote fraud in the questions that are being asked by Bellucci. It just looks to me like a programmer trying to get guidance on the best way to solve a few problems using FoxPro. These are common tasks that could apply to any program. In other words, it's not even clear that she's writing code that has anything to do with a voting system.

yet one could hope...

Wonder if the company employs many programmers other than family?
