Guys, start wearing your Kerry pins
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 09:26 PM by proudtobeadem
if your not already. See, I have been wanting to tell everyone I meet and see about this, and at times have, but it is just so hard to start the conversation with perfect strangers -I get either "it's not going tochange anything" or they look at me like I'm nuts, there were a few who's eyes I was able to open. (and I live in NYC)

So, I just got the idea that if I wear the pin people will ask me why I'm wearing it -and that's my opening to say the election is still not over and tell them about the fraud etc...
I think it's worth a try.

13. I didn't even *start wearing my "Native Americans for Kerry"
button till AFTER the election, but have been wearing it ever since.

Haven't yet gotten around to retrofitting the car with the sticker, but it's on the to do list.

Now, though, whenever I see a Kerry Sticker on the Road--I hold up a big flyer, and have recently taken to actually transferring them through the car windows to vehicles with Kerry stickers.

(Yes, I may be one of the few bona fide "nutcases" in the cadre of "internet quacks and conspiracy theorits, but...people in my town are thanking me for my craziness all the time).

You can make a real scene in the line at the grocery store by talking *very loudly* to someone about how we are definitely WELL ON THE WAY TO CONTESTING AND POSSIBLY OVERTURNING A FRAUDULENT ELECTION AND REMOVING A CRIMINAL FELON FROM OFFICE--You don't even have to ask anyone if they want flyers with relevant URLS, they start asking YOU. (What you got there?) (This is especially fun in an almost all black, definitely 99.9% BLUE area, with only one repuke in the whole line, who happens to be a white guy; it's like 99.9 % of the people are struggling to keep straight faces, .1% is trying to keep his shit in his pants, and everyone's taking the flyers!)

Maybe I should change my username to Looney Tunes! ? !

22. That's too cool, neversay looney
LOL

I've started conversations with folks by saying: "Did ya hear? They overturned the election"

The looks I get are awesome.

Of course, I then say: "In the Ukraine, but we may just do it here, too"

And if it comes to pass they even know what a "Ukraine" is, we've got a conversation going.

Kerry On!

Oh and the grocery store thing: that works really well in the deli section, where they have to stand around waiting anyway; or in the prescription line at the pharmacy. And never fail to leave a few flyers on the counter. (I'll be updating mine with the Conyers, C-Span & Co. stuff!)

Couples in the parking lot are a good target: while one of em loads up the groceries, you engage the other in conversation....which might conclude with something like, "Oh yeah, I have a whole shitload of flyers and additional info in my car...want some?"

How bout these responses: (I saw a while back I'm not the only one in therapy as a result of this fiasco, or for whom it has otherwise had serious life-altering impact)

(from the internist): It's too bad the fiasco's taken such a toll on your health, but I'm glad you did it and thanks for the flyers--my whole block is Blue; I've been looking for just this kind of information.

(from my shrink): well , i'm sorry you had to have a nervous breakdown over it, but I'm sure glad you did--I appreciate the info and I'll look into it.

(from the dentist): well I know YOU have to be in pretty bad shape to be finally having this extensive dental work done as a welcome respite from the hell of post-election despair, but I'm sure grateful for all this information. It didn't make sense from the beginning.

And I can't wait to see the apologies coming in from people who dismissed me as a lunatic without a cause. If you're gonna go looney tunes, you'd best hope there's a reason for it.

:freak:

Slogan/bumper stickers/pins? Something that reflects what's going on now? Like the red hand. The Bush Cheated sticker. That way people won't think you're just too lazy to take off your old stuff (like my family is guilty of).

19. I'm going the opposite direction
and leaving up my NO W pins (W with a circle and slash through it) and various other anti-bush sentiment at work. It's definately a good conversation-starter around work. I've gotten at least a few people who thought I was crazy to wear the tinfoil hat and agree that there really was something wrong with this election.

25. It's a great idea and a great way to open the conversation....
And that's when the magic starts. As you say, not all the time but sometimes. In between the ones who throw up their hands and say "yes you are probably right but there's nothing we can do" or the ones who say "Come on, get over it and move on" and the ones who say "you have become totally obsessed with this "crusade" (that would be my family)= in between is when you are reminded about how important it is that we keep having those conversations. Regardless of how many seem to go nowhere.

I's amazing to watch someone's eyes get wide open while they drink in the news that there are thousands of people working round the clock to xhow the world what really happened. Remember for the most part, all that is going on right now, thanks to the lack of MSM, is happening under the wire. Something happens- you feel like you're giving them this huge gift- of relief. But I truly believe that there are millions of people out there who have not yet made the connection but know in their hearts, that something went terribly wrong on Nov. 2nd. All they need is for someone to help turn on the light.

I carry around these small colored flyers that say "Think the election went perfectly? Think again.
Question the Election. Your Democracy is Counting on You.

Then it lists some startling facts and about 10 links to key sites where they can exploe for themselves, donate, take action, etc.

I've given these out in airports, on airplanes, checking into hotels, in taxis, on line at the supermarket and even in the ladies room at the movie theater! I also get their email addresses so I can put them on my Question the Election news blasts.

We are the media you guys-- and we are also the moral majority. Remember that.

26. Great post...more conversation starters and... Santa Suits?
Very cool, Karynin, I've been doing the same thing--for weeks now (but not getting their emails--that's a very good idea).

I sometimes just start a normal everyday conversation (like in the elevator, wherever, whatever): compliment them on something they're wearing, or somehow draw attention to THEM. Then I ask, "So what'd ya think about the election anyway, were you happy with the results?"

Yes, (moveon)
No. Well did you know there's something you can do to possibly change it?
....then go from there. But you DO have to have the info in a small easy to take and glance over format....because people are hurried, harried...and with shopping season now entering full swing, they're becoming even moreso.

Hey now there's an idea--what about dressing up in Santa Suits and handing out flyers?

Wishing you a Berry, Berry Blue Christmas! With an image of Bush as Grinch.
(someone else is going to have to do this one--I'm too skinny to play Santa).

30. Santa suits- now thats a thought. But we do come bearing gifts...
It's the gift of truth- some want to hear it, some do not and some can not. But that's ok- most do (at least that's my experience).

Creative conversation breakers are interesting- it's true. Sometimes, in response to the question "how are you", I respond with "Not bad but I've been thinking of moving to a blue state". That generally evokes some sort of comment from them regarding my not being happy about the election. From then on, it sort of takes off on it's own.

Keep talking, keep sharing, keep shining the light- eventually there will be enough of us in the light to blow the lid off this thing and what a party we will have when we do!

May this be the last Bush Christmas in the White House...

Karyn

We'll start making your kindsa flyers tomorrow morning. Thanks.

We ordered some pins and stickers that say
one nation . . under surveillance
we are being lied to
who would jesus bomb?
how many lives per gallon,
etc.
and have made a few of our own, posting them on sidewalks;
yes they get removed, but at least the person who removed it read it.

good therapy, especially when they think the state's red and it

32. Someone also posted "Fraud not Faith/ Election 2004
I liked that one too. I think it was here at DU. But, I still like "Question the Election- Our Democracy Depends on It"

Whatever anyone does is great. We just need to spread the word as quickly as possible- whatever it takes. AND we need to find ways to bring Republicans into this conversation because this is NOT a partisan issue. It's about our rights as Americans. Period.

Today I had a long conversation with someone who I do believe voted for Bush. I'm not positive (he's a client sort of), but he might have. I know he was on the fence for a while. When I opened the conversation her was amazed. When I started feeding him facts- he could barely speak. All he could say after listening to some of the facts and updates was "Wow- if this is real, it's bigger then WaterGate!". (I resisted the desire to say "Duh"). All I asked was that he do the research and decide for himself. Also that, regardless of whether he believes it was fraud, he ask himself if there isn't at least enough evidence to find out. For the sake of the country and for the sake of democracy. He agreed.

I tend to believe that most people, regardless of party, when learning how widespread the problems were in Ohio, will want to know what happened. Even if it's just to shut up their Democratic friends and show them that Bush did win after all. And that's fine too. If we discover after counting all the votes and investigating the machines that Bush won because he got more votes- so be it. I will spend the next 4 years being pissed, upset, writing letters, etc. But I'll be damned if I will allow him to be handed the job again if he didn't win. Enough is enough...

We could just print up some little stickers with a vote fraud logo on it or a question mark and affix it to our Kerry buttons and bumper stickers. My lawn sign was removed by the zoning guy because it violated an ordiance that signs must be down two days after election :( However, my porch remains adorned, with a rainbow flag that says "the world says no to the Bush Agenda", an American flag and a yellow ribbon.

I refuse to remove my bumper stickers.

The back of my car has two bumper stickers: A generic "Kerry Edwards" and a "Mainstreet Moms Oppose Bush".

I love it when the big SUVs tailgate me and aggressively pass me with the driver shaking their head. That means my stickers make them angry.

"Bush cheated" and anything that bears his image is that it STILL makes this twit the center of attention. The focus should be AWAY from him. It should point to his crimes not his ugly ass face.

THe "Fraud not Faith" also works to that end. But imo the LAST thing we need are more images of Bush in any form.
