51. Keith's closing statement says it all. It was about the war in Iraq,
but it applies to the election also. We must stand up and be heard.

KO: "It was an eloquent and conclusive argument that dissent is not dangerous to democracy - it is its lifeblood".

Nice blog, completely agree with him. You don't uncover all of the problems and then put a stamp of approval on the results anyway.

talking about a formal challenge to the Ohio electors’ credibility mentioned today by Conyers--

"There is no question it would be a short-term political liability - even a fatality - to the Representative and Senator who signed it. But, especially with that realization, it would not be an act of partisanship, but of patriotism."

5. Thank you very interesting.
"But the challenge itself, even if it garnered exactly one vote each from the Senate and House, would be a powerful protest, and an earnest signal that a full investigation of what happened in Ohio should take place, even after the inauguration. It could even be relevant, legally, in terms of the impounding of voting machines and records, to serve as the basis for some later examination to determine what, if anything, failed - and how it could be prevented from failing again.

There is no question it would be a short-term political liability - even a fatality - to the Representative and Senator who signed it. But, especially with that realization, it would not be an act of partisanship, but of patriotism."

Here here Mr. Olbermann :toast:

I think Diogenes himself would tell you that you're screwed if you want to find an honest one among them.
And don't try to pass off that McCain maverick crap...I watched him on CNN in 02 back up Saxby Chambliss after the Max Cleland=Osama commercials came out.
lil hint:
Ask Jim Jeffords...
*edit: for extra cool points, Sen Jeffords is a black belt in tae kwon do, so he could beat the stuffin out of anybody who gives him a hard time

22. Well we know there are lots of folks who won't do it but the
question is -- is there not one honest man in sodom? Who should we focus on even if its only a minimum chance -- we need to start now and lobby people in his or her district/state. Not wait till January! Someone who may not be coming back to Congress, somone retiring or sick or patriotic or someone with an axe to grind -- there are always people like this no matter what party or where. People with egos and need to be in the spotlight. People who care no matter the personal cost. WHO?

42. I thought that too, but I think their would be
deafening cries of conflict of interest.

But, I have a plan . . . :P

How about the new Junior Senator from Illinois?

If he's the future of our party, he better get to leading, and I think standing where no one had the courage to stand in 2000; beside the members of the lower house, the people's chamber; that would be the best place to start.

Otherwise, I will be going Green, don't give a shit if some think its a waste, I got to be able to sleep with myself at night.

34. Maybe one of your big posters could start a thread on this
Then we could begin researching who and post on the demopedia so we can move forward and get somewhere -- no matter if this doesn't get down to the day the congress certifies the electoral college vote (or whatever the hell its called) we STILL need this to become everyones issue not just super obsessed DUers. There are lots of way to lobby someone - how about a petition from the population of ones constituents who say that they would vote for X if he stuck his/her neck out on this?

Suggestions so far are Specter PA, Lincoln Chafee, Olympia Snow Maine, Ron Paul Tex Representative,...

He has no integrity. Figure the magic bullet theory, Anita Hill and sniveling his way into the Senate Judiciary Committee adds up to three strikes.
Chafee, Snow, Jeffords, Obama all seem like possibilities...don't think we'll be hurting for a Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr (Didn't he used to be III?) from Ill would be there in a heartbeat, I think.

9. Wield the Cudgel
That is indeed what is needed here. Someone, okay, two people, to stand up and "Just Say No". To "put some of their political capital where their mouths are."

"These minority members, who now say they are headed to Ohio to conduct field hearings to listen directly to the grievances of voters there, have provided an invaluable service in forcing at least part of the mainstream to provide a platform for the 20% or more of the citizenry who suspect error or subterfuge."

I am here to say that I am a PROUD 20 percenter.

Another great blog and, as always, a pleasure...

I'd love to see it. We had the great Congressional Black Caucus stand up in 2000 and not one Senator would stand with them. Can we find one, just one who will put their political capital where their mouth is now in 2004.

24. Wonderful, as usual.
"The soldiers who broached those questions weren’t complainers or politically motivated. They were Patriots."

Very nice.

But the idea that the soldier with the dumpster diving for armor story was a plant is disturbing, in a way. Is that a way for * to raise taxes or further bankrupt social security/medicare/education to pay for our brave soldiers. "Pony up your public services, boys and girls, we have to protect our troops." Never mind that our troops shouldn't even be there.

Regardless, you can't tell me the troops voted overwhelmingly for *. Not with this stuff going down.

27. actually I don't think KO meant it was a plant - I think he meant that
the senior officers who normally "rehearse" the soldiers knew they would ask these questions and approved these questions coming out. Generally a visit like this is pretty choreographed from start to finish especially a press event like this.

33. No doubt,
the soldier didn't have to be a plant. The soldier could have been sincere, but the higher ups--including the military brass that support this effort--could have approved the question working in cahoots with the administration.

But I'm not saying that's what's happening here, anyway. I'd certainly like to think the military approved the questions because they're pissed at Rumsfeld and worry for the safety of the troops. It just this administration is so diabolical, the concept made me think conspiratorially. :tinfoilhat:

36. Oberman -- Media Matters, Conservatives rail...
against MSNBC's Olbermann for reporting election irregularities

http://mediamatters.org/items/200411160006

<snip>
Media conservatives have labeled MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann a "voice of paranoia" and accused him of perpetuating "idiotic conspiracy theories" for his sustained spotlight on the numerous local news reports of voting irregularities during the November 2 presidential election. Olbermann's emphasis during Countdown with Keith Olbermann on voting irregularities has been part of a critique of what he has called the "Rube Goldberg voting process of ours" -- as well as a criticism of the major media outlets' failure to report on the irregularities.
