AP - Hand Recount Starts in Wash. Gov. Race
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=511&ncid=696&e=1&u=/ap/20041209/ap_on_el_gu/governor_recount

"HELTON, Wash. - A recount by hand of 2.9 million votes began Wednesday to determine the winner of the closest gubernatorial race in state history.

A machine recount found Republican Dino Rossi to be the winner by 42 votes over Democrat Christine Gregoire. The hand recount is the final tally allowed by state law.

Six of the state's 39 counties started the recount Wednesday, with the rest to begin Thursday. "

1. Damnit I REALLY wanted to help!
Everytime I contact activist groups I never hear back. This is getting very frustrating! Moveon I have volunteered for FIVE TIMES and never heard a word back, DFA required FOUR signups for me to start getting messages. I really think something's blocking my communications.

I asked a friend of mine with an email account on the same server as ine to fill out a form, and I did the same, he got a reply I didnt'. How messed up is that?

7. I'm going to be an observer/counter today in my county.
Here in beautiful Ferry County we had approximately 3000 ballots cast for governor, and Rossi won handily here in our county with about 60% of the votes cast. On the other hand, we only need to pick up 42 votes across the entire state to make Christine Gregoire the new governor.
Training starts at 8:30 AM, and counting to follow.
I'll update in the Washington forum when I'm done, or this one if it isn't buried.

8. No change in our county
One Dem woman handing papers to one Rep woman, a pair of the same, and 6 or 8 people watching them as they count ALL the ballots.
At least we can SEE the ballots, we're kinda old-fashioned here in Ferry County.
