1. Well, let's work on that, shall we? Let's make sure the elected officials
who bother to stand up for us are lauded as some of the best there are on the Hill!

Maybe some blogs and DU should single out Conyers et al for civic duty awards?

all (at least most, i didn't check every one) those google hits are for essentially the same wire article. most the article presents our side and the quote you are pulling out does not represent the general tone. any publicicy is good publicity at this point IMHO.

article if it had mentioned WHY it wasn't currently a bi-partisan forum/hearing - All the Repukes were invited, none of them showed up. Instead they get a quote from the opposition calling them partisan and "faux"

I'd bet my (slim) checkbook balance that if I tuned in to OxyRush, InSannity and any other RW screamer today, I'd hear that exact phrase. It's how they spin it. 2 days later, any RWer on your email list will be using the exact phrase.

Remember how "flip/flop" became the phrase of the day? First one comment, then repeated ad nauseum, people at the water cooler, finally, the sell out MSM would "some are calling Kerry a flip flopper" and "under scrutiny because some have labled him a flip flopper...". McDonalds would kill to get such oft repeated word recognition.

As good ole' Matt would say...developing....

8. I wouldn't take that bet. It's for suckers.
The fact that Republicans were invited and neglected to attend should be broadcast loud and clear!

7. I agree any publicity is a start
It's encouraging, especially when you remember the Ghandi quote oft-repeated here lately.

First they ignore you
Then they laugh at you
Then they fight you
Then you win

They're past the laughing phase now. The more shrill the responses, the more attention they draw to the issue, and the more they reveal their panic.

3. I guess our job is to see that "faux hearings"
are as believable as "faux" networks. Maybe there will be some kind of word association - Faux = FOX?

I shouldn't be flip really - this pisses me off. You really think the line was programmed by Karl? How can people be so willingly brainwashed?

do their damned jobs and stop insisting that they have ownership over every issue. Maybe thats what the ownership society really means, a society where Republicans own everything including all issues of importance. This hearing was unofficial, but it was not "faux" as Congressman Ney would suggest. If the Republicans would have been onboard on holding hearings NOW as Conyers and the other Democrats wanted then they wouldn't need to be unofficial. The problem here isn't "faux" hearings. The problem here is Republican obstructionism. Pure and simple. Its not unlike the new Republican directive that only bills that have the majority of the majority will reach the floor. This isn't democracy. Its a one-party dictatorship disguised as democracy. Only a "faux" democracy such as the one we currently have under Republican "leadership" would we ever need to hold so-called "faux" hearings.
