Kerry:Not because it would change the outcome of the election...
...But because...
I was sitting and parsing this statement when the following occurred to me...
"I love the Jolly Green Giant not because he has two HUGE green balls, but because his corn is tasty...
In short the "not because" doesn't negate the truth of the prior but rather supports further the second...
Parsing it this way you could figure a lawyer making this speech was being cute,no?

1. I agree
And it keeps irking me a bit when others call out that statement as a 'how dare he say that' comment.

Especially when almost all of us here, in our own words, have said we are mainly fighting not as priority to put Kerry in office, but for the greater good of saving democracy and making sure each vote counts.

Isn't that essentially saying the exact same thing? I believe it is, and if so, means each time someone trashes a Kerry Campaign comment saying such they are just engaging in the highest form of hypocrisy.

2. EXACTLY!
By "Framing" it the way we have it nullifies the partisanship of the cause. It is BRILLIANT in my humble opinion!

WELCOME to DU catnhatnh! :toast:

3. fantastic!
more games with words, that's what we need now.

We don't need a leader who speaks clearly, and especially ACTS clearly.

We need leaders who send dubious signals with statements like this one.

Words from Kerry or his people mean NOTHING right now, ACTION does.

13. Not Quite....
...you frame it as a "GAME",I know it to be a deadly struggle for the future of democracy.Using Bush to equate to Kerry is like using lobster bait (rotting mackeral) to equate to lobster Newburg (Fine Cuisine)...

5. yeah?
ok well hey listen when you break open a scandal as wide and complicated as the BCCI was let me know OK?
I don't think Kerry got where he is today by being a moron or inept or a man of words and not action.

8. If you live in the US or are even remotely familiar with its oligarchy
and its media, you should be able to answer that one yourself.

15. So far....
...little to support but absolutely NOTHING to belittle our efforts, though a simple statement here could quiet it all....so do you think he doesn't hear us,or that he doesn,t care,or just MAYBE you don't know it all???
