Bev Harris update -- "Activating the Eagles"
http://www.blackboxvoting.org/#eagles

It sure seems like Bev wants to debunk the notion that "it's all about her"!

On November 12, seeking answers to a specific vote-fraud question on the Diebold voting machines, Black Box Voting went to Florida for one day. We didn't get back until Dec. 9. While in Florida, together with local citizens, we found significant problems in Volusia County (Diebold - audit did not check out; note the outstanding contributions of Florida Fair Voting Coalition and citizen Susan Pynchon), Pinellas County (Sequoia - stay tuned on this one, outstanding work by local citizens), Brevard County (Diebold -- obstructiveness and lying about public records) and Palm Beach County (Sequoia -- all kinds of problems, with very important work by local citizens), in addition to what's been reported elsewhere.

Black Box Voting met with citizens in Florida who are making a real difference.

What's in store for America: The key word is "relentless." We have not given up. We will not give up.

1. Unfortunately, the Black Box Voting "volunteer action" forums are compromised; hackers broke in and removed our own ability to use or moderate our own forums. Good people are working on that and we will solve it soon.

2. The Black Box Voting Cleanup Crew plan: Activating the Eagles

"Doves, sparrows, and other low-flying birds gather together, but eagles soar alone and must be gathered one at a time."

You, as an individual citizen, are America's best hope to clean up elections, which must be done starting at the local level. Using your own common sense, get started on your own local elections. Take an action, and let us know what you've done. Black Box Voting investigators will be traveling to meet with citizens who show that they take initiative on their own.

Our republic will revive when we have REAL grass roots growing, that is, people who are taking independent action on a local level, using their own common sense. This does not always require a group. One person can make a real difference.

We can help you by giving you ideas, technical advice, and by sending an investigator to you.

- If actions taken by Black Box Voting make sense to you, try something similar in your local jurisdiction.

- A Black Box Voting investigator may arrange to meet with you or your group, to help educate you, share ideas, and fund-raise. We will select those who show initiative on their own, with creative ideas that make things happen independent of our organization.

When we say "fund-raising," we are not talking about fund raising for Black Box Voting. We visit you on our own dime. Whatever you arrange for fund raising during our visit will go to YOUR group, to empower action, purchase your local public records, pay court costs, whatever you need to use it for.

Grass roots activism, in the form that is most dangerous to corporate-controlled power, is activism that is not centralized. A national organization with chapters in each state, which issues official position papers and directs/organizes actions, is using a corporate model itself.

Black Box Voting is more revolutionary: We encourage INDEPENDENT action, which we do not control or directly organize. We are looking for relentless, clever, loosely allied people, taking actions they have figured out for themselves, using their own common sense and whatever resources they can bring to bear. This creates a swarm that becomes impossible to fight.

Usually, before we will send an investigator to help you, you must show that you are taking action on your own. We are more interested in auditing elections and enforcing transparency than we are in holding rallies, and we are most interested in helping citizens who are self-directed, gutsy, sensible, and difficult to discourage.

Relentless. Eagles. You can make it happen. We'll help.

1. "Hackers broke in"
and they lost the ability to moderate their own forums???

1) That's pretty funny "Bev Harris... you have been BANNED from your own threads"

2) Do we really have the best possible people looking in to the security of computer voting systems? lol

16. I bet they just have a buggy program
She runs DC Forums, the same software company that DU uses for this board, only she uses the older cgi version where DU uses the php version. I have used both and both have lots of bugs that do things like suddenly prevent you from using the administrative board, etc.

Luckily DU has some highly skilled tech people to fix the bugs because the software maker seems to have gone on permanent vacation and doesn't even visit his own support forums.

I don't know how anyone can "hack" into a cgi program if the proper steps were taken to deny permissions to enter. More likely one of the admins changed the passwords either accidentally or on purpose and now she can't get in.

4. If you have nothing constructive to contribute
but just more of your hateful backbiting.

Then please just keep your opinion to yourself, it absolutely has no place in a thread like this.

You all had your opportunities to blast Bev plenty and took it. It should be enough already.

Excuse me?

What hatefully backbiting?

What is hateful backbiting?

I don't hate Bev.

I don't Believe her.

Is it hateful to point out that she is now franchising her fund raising machine?

22. The thing is though
For people like myself who aren't involved in the fighting one way or the other and weren't even aware of it.....I am not interested in Bev or BBV.And it is because of Bev herself that I am not.

It is a real turn off that she turned down the chance to be on a national credible news show with Keith Olberman who has championed the election fraud issue.
There just isn't any excuse for it.In a nutshell it made her appear self serving-to be hiding something-or at the very least not on the up and up.

So don't be surprised with the reaction to Bev threads at DU.OR the lack of interest in them-she has no one to blame but herself.

3. There was a time when she was seen as "all" good.....
now the comments seem to imply that she is "all" bad.
Could it be that she is somewhere in the middle? Not
looking for any flaming but just wondering if what
she has done or might do toward proving voting fraud
might still have any value?

10. My take: A good person with a bad temper
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 03:50 PM by Dolphyn
I think she's done some fantastic work, and I think she's
made some big mistakes too.

Without her efforts, I think far fewer people would have any
awareness of election fraud issues and "black box" issues in
particular. I'm convinced we'd be much further behind if not
for her efforts.

I have no regrets about donating to her organization, and the
outcome in the Volusia County remains to be seen. I don't think
anyone else would have found those polling tapes in the trash,
and her investigations may bring some good results.

Many brilliant, good-hearted people have poor social skills.

13. They filed some lawsuits and did some audits there
and were busy digging through the trash in Volusia County looking for signed polling tapes that were heading to the shredder that had been replaced with copies.

They put out FOIA in several counties there

I have no doubt they worked hard

I have no doubt they have their hearts in the right place

No need to bash them

17. Not "bashing"...
just asking about Bev Harris' statement that she was in FLA for "one day" (Nov. 12th) prior to today.

Whatever your doubts aren't, I asked what has gone on during the past four weeks. Were they in other states gathering info.? What states? Doing what?

I have many questions about what BBV has been doing since Nov. 2. How many counties have/have not complied with FIA? And what sort of analysis has been done?

I find no answers on BBV site. I do, however, find pointless criticism of the programmer's affidavit without any backup for the criticism.

I have nothing specifically for or against BBV or Bev. I made no comment in the 700+ post thread, one way or the other.

I just feel like I am hearing a lot more noise than substance from BBV since the election. I am a past contributor, and expect SOME kind of specific information, such as "How many counties have complied with FIA?"

I still wonder what counties have been visited and the outcome of the visits, level of FOIA compliance.

21. hold on a second while I put my fire suit on.....
OK,

I also had and asked the same FOIA questions here, there, and everywhere.

No answers just flames.

So I started asking about Donations and staffing.

I received no direct answers.

I did learn how ever that there are only THREE investigators, and another DU member mentioned hearing a figure like $250 000 dollars donated. but it was never confirmed or denied.

3000+ FOIA request are apparently being reviewed, compiled, and distributed (not disclosed who's looking over data but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they aren't hoarding the info).

The largest FOIA request in history.
How many have responded?

Her latest update says BBV investigators will be visiting local activist groups to assist.

Have they hired more investigators? If so a press release stating such would motivate the troops and help quiet the critics.

But what she is now doing fits the definition of franchising.

2 entries found for franchising.

24. Don't worry...
I zipped up my asbestos suit before posting on this thread.

It would seem to be a simple matter to state how many counties have complied with FOIA thus far, and how many have not. And roughly how many and what sort of people are analyzing the data.

Considering that Bev's main business over the years seems to have been PR, I do not understand why the info given is so murky and vague, and does not give people a feeling of confidence.

Also, being that they are a 501(c), has the financial information for the organization been requested or released to anyone, or posted?

27. well about the 501(c),
She was asked point blank how much had been donated since Nov 2.

She has never answered

What she did announce was her meager salary of $60k

She also listed the BOD and insisted she is not in control of the money.

Bev explained in a statement on her site that a 501(c) must make finances public.

So A few DU'rs checked online and realized that the 501(c) was created in 2004 and therefore has not reported yet.

I often get flamed for asking questions, and criticizing answers, but I think we need to check them out even if they are supposed to be on our side.

Dropping it will just leave a sour taste in donors', or future donors', mouths that might make them think twice the next time they want to support a progressive cause.

If we can show that we 'Audit' our own then I think we may be able to restore some peoples confidence in the whole 501(c) area.
