Disturbing occurance in Warren County, Ohio
*Note: This is just speculation on my part!*

Look at the "votes" in Warren County for Bush/Kerry:

Bush (Incumbent) 68,035 72%
Kerry 26,043 28%

Total Votes: 94,078

Now, look at the votes in Warren County for the Ohio Gay Marriage/Civil Unions Ban:

Yes 63,431 69%
No 27,960 31%

Total Votes: 91,391

What oddities does this include?

1) 1,917 more people in CONSERVATIVE SOUTHERN OHIO voted "No" on the gay marriage ban than voted for Senator Kerry.

2) An astonishing 4,604 more people in CONSERVATIVE SOUTHERN OHIO voted for President Bush than the GAY MARRIAGE BAN......

A side note: Usually it is the opposite....More people for the gay marriage ban than the Republican candidate, especially in "moderate" states.

3) 2,687 more people "voted" in the Presidential race than on the gay marriage ban. This means that virtually all of these people left the gay marriage area of the ballot blank if this is true...or got their vote rejected, how rare on such a divisive issue.

4) Let's face it. This area is ultraconservative. But how rare is it that more people voted No on the issue conservatives are campaigning on, gay marriage, and less for Kerry!

Something strange is definitely going on.....Can't wait for the recount.

I believe the Repubs were skimming votes wherever and whenever they could get away with it. This is just one more proof of this.

4. I can imagine
a certain portion of people leaving the gay marriage ban blank -- they don't support gay marriage but banning it outright also doesn't sit right, so just don't vote on it. (I have done this more than once in Wyoming where, in a somewhat quirky application of election law, a didn't-vote is counted as a NO, as amendments have to have a majority of ALL THOSE VOTING to pass.)

But I have a hard time believing that such a large number of people wouldn't have voted on this.

Is it Warren County that shut out the press because of a warning by homeland security??? Or is Warren County where Warren, OH is??

31. Yeppers!!! Isn't it sad how our Lord and Savior has been dragged
innocently through the mud through this whole election and never should have been? Isn't it funny how these Right Wing nutjobs have nothing in common with us real Christians? Christians like us, who oppose murdering innocent people and oppose wars? Yes, I don't believe in abortion either if a fundie asks me, but I tell them that I believe in our Constitution because it allows me to have the freedom to worship God the way I see fit instead of some Right Wing nutjob who does not read the Bible and only listens to soundbytes and serious whacko, fake Christians like Coulter, Hannity and Limbaugh. And, that our Constitution allows me to make that choice on abortion.

How anyone can say Chimp is a Christian is beyond me. Just wanted to throw that in there as well. Jesus, we love you and we know what you want of us. Forgive these Right Wingers for they do not know what they do.

63. Christ will spit Bush out of his mouth. He will say:

"I never knew you".

I know it's wrong to judge someone else's spirituality ("let everyone work out his own salvation with fear and trembling") - but I will venture to judge this time. I agree with you that there is NO WAY that Bush has been born again. No way! He doesn't show humility or compassion (hence the smirking and swaggering). His God is money (unrighteous mammon) as Bush shows favor to corporations and the wealthy, etc. And it certainly doesn't seem like Bush went into that war after days of prayer and fasting, right?

64. No. He didn't and this is what makes me mad! He uses God and Jesus
to justify killing these Iraqis. Right Wingers think it's okay to blow people to smitherines and force Christianity on people. This is baloney! You cannot force Christianity on anyone. People will resist! They should want to know Christ! Christ himself told us to never judge anyone for what they believe in. What if communist China invaded us (and believe me, they are getting our economy and own our debt so it is a good possibility) and made us all buddist and made to worship those statues? How would these fundies like that? Chimp also uses the argument that free nations don't kill others nations. Bull, others nations who aren't free have never tried to touch us! It is a weak argument at best.

65. As a Buddhist, I feel the need to correct a few things you just wrote
I agree TOTALLY with everything you wrote, right up to the point where you said, ..."What if Communist China Invaded us... an made us all buddist and made to worship those statues?"

:hi:First of all, 1) Religion was Banned in China (I think in 1947 when the Communist took over), it's Illegal to practice any religion there. The few Buddhist Temples that have been Re-opened over the last 20 years, are only for the Tourists to see and take pictures of, 2) Buddhist don't Worship Statues, The Buddhas represent the real person of Buddha (just like Jesus was a real person, only the Buddha most think of as The Buddha, was around 500 years before Jesus) and he is there to inspire us to reach his level of enlightenment and wisdom. One of the main reasons the Dalai Lama lives in India now (not in his home country of Tibet, which is now known as Western China) is because the Chinese want to KILL him, because he is our spiritual leader, just like they killed 1,000,000 of the 6,000,000 Tibetan people, when they took over Tibet.

Funny how it doesn't seem to bother George "they want to ban the Bible" Bush, that our fastest growing trading partner is Communist country, where Religion is illegal. Make a Fella think that maybe Ol' George is a liar. At least about MOST things.

Other than that, you have a good point.

70. Well, since I am a Christian and don't practice Buddhism, sorry I didn't
mean to offend you or Buddhists. That's maybe the reason why I don't have all my facts straight. I was trying to make an example and it was weak. Sorry. I was just merely pointing out exactly what you were saying, sort of. What if we were invaded and practiced to not have any religion besides Christianity. I guess that's what I was saying. I meant no harm to Buddhists. These fundies who are extremist wouldn't like it, that's all. Again, my apologies. :hi:

72. No Biggie, I Know exactly when you're coming from...
:)I understand completely and took no offense.

I grew up Roman Catholic, an probably had about the same amount of knowledge re: Buddhism, until I stated studying it in 1998. It soon became clear to me, that Christian religion, in this country at least, is TOTALLY Screwed up. The Roman Catholic Church, post-Vatican 2, as RC's say, are mainly teaching old, out of date DOGMA that had been screwed up by almost 2000 years of corrupt Popes and church hierarchy.:grr:

I blame England, King James:spank: and the King James Bible in particular. I find it very ironic that, in 1776, we fought a WAR to remove English Laws and Restrictions on Religion in this country.

Isn't it sad that the Fundies don't see the problem with, or the irony of, teaching from an Old English Bible (which often, just the words and modern meaning of the English, need translating), a Bible that was written to please the King of England, as if it is the ONLY true word of God, and should be taken literally, word for word, as the truth.
:wtf:
The Roman Catholic Church used the Latin Language, and the fact that only the Rich and well educated were literate in Latin, to control and command such respect among it followers. The Fundies and the GOP are doing something very similar today. The Fundies use the fact that, because of the "Old English" used in the KJB, the Bible is VERY easy to MIS-interpret (when it can be understood at all), so when the Preacher interprets the true meaning(or "Reveals the Truth," as they like to say) the Preacher is elevated to the level of great and wise Teacher, Rabbi, prophet, whatever.

:boring:Sorry, I could, and probably should, write a book on this subject, I'll stop now.

It is sad though, that the phrase "Godless Communists" has disappeared from the commonly used language, at least when the People's Republic of Wal~Mart, UGHOH I mean, of China is talked about. Let's fix that everyone!

Primarily the class of rich white Republicans--they voted against issue 1 pretty big.

24. Taft and Dewine opposed it
and urged others to, as well, because of the limiting language -- no partner rights for het couples who choose not to marry

46. The Western Star ( Warren County paper) came out against it too
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 11:04 PM by lizzieforkerry
The second part of the Amendment took rights away from non- married hetero couples, so some Reps voted agaist it. When you went into the precincts there was a sign that gave the pro and con argument for the Amendment and the Con argument was pretty strong.

23. Are ballots numbered there? Pollbooks?
In my OH precinct, a poll worker issued a ballot while another checked off a number for the ballot issued. You wouldn't suppose that the last sequence of several thousand votes were all for the same candidate and all beyond the number of people who signed their names in the book? They couldn't have been that clumsy, could they? Well, if they come up with that "level 10" threat (what color is that, anyway?), maybe it'll be that transparent. Get the jail cells ready!

35. Punch card tabulation procedures should include
From:

http://www.fankhausers.com/articles/tabulation.html

snip
The open hardware architecture allowed thorough testing to occur. Testing of the punch-card system began several weeks before the election was scheduled to take place. Our vendor (ES&S) would send us a copy of the parameters that configured the tabulation program for the next election. The program with the parameters loaded was tested in the presence of the local election board, interested members of the public and press, and two "computer experts" observing the tests on behalf the two major parties. This test involved a standard "test deck" of cards designed to cast a different but predictable number of votes for each candidate. In addition, the observers would add a few "trick cards" to the deck to make sure the correct results, although known to the observers, would be unknown in advance by either the programmers or operators of the equipment.

During the test, the observers might ask that the program and/or parameters be reloaded from disk, that the date on the computer be changed, or that an arbitrary new test deck be run in addition to the standard deck. In short, there was almost no way that the vendor of the program or the local operators might predict in advance what the test might look like.

Untested software was never used. Once the test had completed, both the program and the parameters (on standard disk) where then sealed in a lock-box along with the test deck in the presence of the observers. On election night, the observers might ask that the program or parameters be reloaded from the sealed disks to ensure that nobody had replaced the program in the computer in the meantime.

snip

Although the diligence of the observers played a major role in the effectiveness of this testing process the result was that there was a very strong and credible deterrent in place to keep malicious programmers from altering software to affect the outcome of an election. The chance of getting caught was very high in a county that ran the tests carefully.

48. I know a woman in Ohio who voted Bush pres and No on ban...
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 10:57 PM by Niche
Yankee, didn't think I'd repeat for any reason but here it is...My mother called me after the election and said she had spoken to her old friend who's still living in Ohio (not Cin. outside cleveland) - this woman voted No on Gay marriage and yes on *. Mom asked why she didn't vote for Kerry she said... get this "He's Catholic like Kennedy" WTF does that mean? So, that's just an example... don't know what it means but that's what I heard. I'm hoping that everyone else who was voting didn't go that way...

P.S. On a better note on Ohio - my family's there and en mass they and their neighbors, friends and co-workers voted Kerry! This is also a report from suburbs of Cleveland/West.

61. That looked odd but
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 11:53 PM by jbnow
Now it looks odder.

Michigan had a gay marriage ban as well and after reading your post I went through every county (83) and it was NEVER close.

You show Kerry getting fewer raw votes and a 3% lower percentage then No votes on ban. 28% Kerry, 31% no ban
This happened in one Michigan county but a much smaller swing (38% Kerry, 39% no on ban)

Someone noted people are more likely to vote for president then a proposal, and that is true in every county here but it doesn't explain it.
Kerry got far more raw votes and a higher percentage then no on the ban in 82 of 83 counties.

Bush got slightly more raw votes then those voting for the ban in 6 of 83 counties, in the other 77 there were more Yes votes on gay marriage ban then there were votes for Bush.

It was only in Livingston county where b's percentage was 1% higher then %yes on ban.
In the other 5 counties where b got more raw votes he had a lower percentage of total votes. Compared to your stat of bush 72& and ban 69% these counties showed:
bush: 59% 63% 60% 61% 71%
Yes Ban 61% 66% 63% 65% 73%

Only two counties here voted against the ban, but by a much lower percentage then Kerry got in those counties.

Could be a fluke. We did have 1 here, though less drastic. But it makes me wonder about that one here with their new optiscans

62. in 2000 gore got 28% -- in 2004 Kerry got 28%
Though there was a massive campaign in that area in 2004, and Gore pulled out of Ohio early.

71. Another county too...
Delaware
Bush 53,142 66.05%
Kerry 27,048 33.62%

Yes 48,844 62.19%
No 29,696 37.81%

More raw votes opposing ban on gay marriage then votes for Kerry and a 4% swing. Don't believe it. No way.

Isn't Deleware the county that sued to stop the recount there (and lost?)
