Political Parties Request Presidential Recount In N.M.

POSTED: 4:22 pm MST December 11, 2004
UPDATED: 4:32 pm MST December 11, 2004

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Green and Libertarian parties have gone to
court, trying to force the state Canvassing Board to begin a recount
of the presidential election in New Mexico no later than Tuesday.

The board plans to meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday to decide the next step in
the recount requested by the two political parties.

That's right on the deadline for notifying county election officials
and precinct workers when to meet to start recounting ballots.

The Green and Libertarian presidential candidates have asked for the
recount and have deposited $114,000 to defray per-precinct and per-
machine costs required under state law.

A spokesman for the effort, California lawyer Lowell Finley, said
the Canvassing Board's late Tuesday meeting isn't acceptable.

1. What a bunch of good people!
You can't really begin to understand how valuable is their stand and the way they respect the most basic and common principle of a democratic system.

The leaders of both parties deserve recognition and appreciation.

3. I may even vote Libertarian next time!
They and Greens are doing more than Kerry, Edwards and the DNC.

2. More stalling....
They think we have such short attention spans, that if they delay long enough, we will become distracted by one of the pretty baubles they dangle in front of us. (al la Peterson, etc.) They don't get it. This is AMERICA we are fighting for now. I refuse to be distracted from a future of free, fair, and transparent elections in MY country. Never.

4. It's just amazing all the work these guys are doing!
Thank god for third parties! Maybe they should take over the control of the two party system we have now? Between those two parties there's actually a good amount of difference - unlike the system we have now.

They have earned a gold star in my book.
