It's a cold gray morning....
Yes indeed, it's morning for me on my schedule. ;) And there's a hush in the air here in central Ohio, the epicenter of the end of the world. A scant layer of wet snow encrusts the cars and the rooftops, the fences and the denuded trees. The sky hangs low, a soft, cold gray that seems to muffle every footfall. Is there a storm about to break on the horizon? I'm listening with every fiber of my being for the first tremble of thunder.

Before the election, I had a startlingly clear mental image of the Kerry inauguration. I could picture him like he was standing in front of me and I could reach out and touch him. It was a day just like today - cold and gray, with a wet dusting of snow. He was wearing a long black wool coat. I could see him smile. I could see the winter wind ruffle his hair. John Edwards was there as well, wearing a similar coat, but a tan color. Couldn't see the wives as clearly, but had the sense they were wearing something more colorful. Even the weather and the heavy blanket of cloudcover couldn't keep people away, couldn't dampen the mood. The area was packed, people barely seeming to feel the cold. Everyone was so relieved and happy, like we'd all dodged a bullet together.

Maybe just wishful thinking. Maybe not.

All I want for Christmas is a real President.

Let the storm commence.

1. Fantastic image. Thanks for this.
I wonder if Kerry will hold that press conference now.

3. There was thunder here last night, should be on its way to Ohio...
we are just south of Chicago, and the WHew-WInd went rushing through last night, taking our power with it for eight long dark hours...should blow into Columbus later today....
