Something positive from Washington recount!!
Ballots Wrongly Denied in Wash. Gov. Race

41 minutes ago Politics - AP

SEATTLE - The election director in Seattle's King County said Monday that hundreds of absentee ballots were mistakenly rejected in the heavily Democratic stronghold — enough to swing the close governor's race to Democrat Christine Gregoire.

21. keeping governor's mansions across the country repub-free
is very important!

Especially regarding this WA guy - I don't want to see him run later for higher office with a governorship under his belt.

(hm, that is remindful of a former governor who is now #1 Bane)

7. I saw that. Why is it that ballots that were put back in orig. envelopes
are the only ones that can be recounted? And for that matter, what determined whether or not an absentee ballot that was rejected was stuck back in an envelope or not stuck back in one. It was pretty unclear. I really wish they had commentators and color men during these CSPAN events... I bet they'd become wildly popular tv shows... sort of like those poker tournements.

26. I am an absentee voter from overseas. The envelopes are
important since they have the voters signature on it to show that this is really the same person as who registered.

8. Oh, and I remember how hard she had to fight to get money for
this from the deadheads in Washington, who were ready to walk away. All power to the people. Congrats, Washington state and all donors.

27. Cost of recounts...
These recounts are incredibly expensive...why should the person who wrongfully lost a rigged election have to foot the bill to find the truth? I think both candidates should have to put the cost of the recount in escrow, and the loser has to pay the fees. Or some other method, but this hardly seems fair to financially bleed the candidate who ran an honest and winning campaign.

That's the case being argued before the WA State Supreme Court right now (2:30 PST); covered on C-SPAN2.

17. Okay, this little bit really ticked me off:
"King County Elections Director Dean Logan said he will ask the county Canvass Board on Wednesday to amend the results of the Nov. 2 election in his county.Agreement is likely; Logan has a seat on the three-person board, and one of the other members is a Democrat."

So that's the only way you can get democracy now?

vote without it!!! How the hell do you do a recount without it! In Florida we can't even do a recount evenif it were as close as Washington.

It is like the totally pervasive picking away in with small events yet ruthless consistant effort. I am just amazed. I bet it is all over the country.
