Who's in for the long fight?
I have believed from the beginning -- because of the concession -- that getting in front of this train and stopping it before the inauguration was like pushing water up hill. But I'm wet, nonetheless, and trying my damnedest.

However, I'm in for the long battle on this one, regardless of what happens on inauguration day.

1. I think of it as waiting for Hitler to be unseated.
I firmly believe it will take a world united to unseat the PNAC/BFEE.

I give it 10-15 years.

2. It's all about the long haul.
I hope everyone here sees it that way. It would be encouraging if all the armchair activists here would get out to some rallies once and awhile, at the very least. It's embarrassing to the movement to see all the passion and excitement on the boards and have practically no one actually get off their asses and do something about it.

19. Thank you & bush is wacko for doing what you do
and keep doing it. We can't give up. I just see all these people saying things like 'If it's not about getting Kerry in, then it's over'...And then in 2006 and 2008 they'll be bitching that elections are stolen again...It just kind of saddens me, because we DO need more real activism, people who will at least make it to protests on weekends, for goodness' sake. And people who see what the big picture on this is.

11. ONLY if JK is inaugurated on Jan 20 is there a "long run"
in any other case, we are f*cking doomed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, imho, delusional and/or in denial.

I would prefer not to seek another country on Jan 20, but if the chimp is in, I'm out.

I feel sorry for anyone who chooses to stay.

24. well, my friend, me and "my people" (i.e. indian people)
have been fighting for this country and against oppression, war, genocide, greed and everything the "foundering fathers" brought with them for 500 years. I left this country--my HOMELAND in the truest sense of the word -- in 1984 as a result of the Reagan results. I stayed gone for almost a decade.

You do not KNOW how it would break my heart to have to leave again, and I'm trying my damndest to prevent that from happening. My decision is highly personal: I know I will NOT survive another four years of this shit (and the worst part about it is the apathy of the american people in general -- of course not DUers, because they are among the few who are putting up a fight).

Far be it from me to presume that liberals in this country might be interested in a Native American perspective on all these issues, but here's one...

27. What does that have to do with anything?
I prefer not to share my credit card info with strangers, thank you very much. And I do not really care how much money you have donated to something, it that's what you're implying. That has nothing to do with what I said to you. I was reacting to fact that you responded on a thread titled "who's in it for the long fight?" with a totally negative answer, specifically:
"we are f*cking doomed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is, imho, delusional and/or in denial"
which contrasted humorously with your username, so I pointed it out.

You and I both know that if everyone gives up after January 20, then you're right, we are doomed. And given another post of yours on this thread, it seems you understand that changing entire political systems and institutions takes some time.
If you want to give up, fine, but don't spew your negativity on a thread asking who IS willing to stick it out.

30. you still don't get MY point:
if we do not succeed in overturning this election, then we are de facto living in a full-scale dictatorship and we have no chance of overturning that from within. It will take large-scale international intervention (which is what I'd hoped for in this case).

My point is that if you think there's anything to salvage once the Shrub is inaugurated, you're kidding yourself.

You call it negative -- I call it realistic.

34. And you don't get mine -
If everyone thinks like you do, then you ARE right. If no one thinks a fight is winnable, and they stop fighting it, it IS unwinnable. Gee, congrats. Keep spreading that attitude so nothing ever gets better for the rest of human existence. That's a lovely way to look at things. I hope being right makes you feel better then.

If you have more 'doom' you'd like to direct at me personally, send me a PM rather than sh*tting on this thread anymore.

Kerry all the way in all of his efforts as well who I might remind is another EXCELLENT LEADER! I believe in all our efforts and feel they will pay off as well as I believe in John F. Kerry. I feel we all will be winners and the only losers will be Chimpee and his followers.

with that quote of President Kerry's.

What I am able to do may not seem like much - donate money when I can, take time when I can to go to rallies, write letters to the media and officials - but if each of the 50,000 here at DU did just one of those things it would make a world of difference.

I know many here have done all that and more and it is much appreciated. :)

Seriously. I'm working on it. I'm trying to get my personal situation sorted where I might be able to "go mobile" and move around to where I might be needed most.

I'm not there yet.

I would participate in an event nearby now, if I wouldn't be the only one standing in a sea of fundementality. I don't like the idea of being a sole target.

I am sickened by the loss of my country and realize now what a mistake it is to not pay attention. It has changed me.

After inauguration day, I say we take it all the way back to 2000. Gore won Florida, we shouldn't have had Bush for the last 4 years. They stole Senate seats in 2002, and more this year. If they steal the Presidency again this year, it's just adding to the pile. And if by some miracle they don't get away with it, we need to uncover it all still, not just let it go. And be vigilant in 2006/8, when the exit poll anomalies won't be a factor, and fraud will be harder to notice because they're getting so damn good at it.

Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 10:23 PM by texpatriot2004
about this the other day. I too have been asking myself about that "line" in the sand. You know, at what point am I willing to risk? When is enough ENOUGH? How bad does it need to get before I am willing to take action? I think it's been coming for me since 2000. Four years of anger surfaced for me in November 2004. It first showed up the day I voted early. I was so angry casting that E-Vote. It has only been galvanized since that day...and it's growing. So, atxryan, if the Repugs threaten violence over this, is that the line in the sand we spoke of? That inevitable line that is drawn that demands a stand, a fight? What do you think?

ALSO ANOTHER GOOD IDEA IN DU TODAY WAS TO WRITE ON THE PAPER MONEY YOU USE SAYING VOTE FRAUD OR DID YOUR VOTE COUNT?

I hope that all DUers will take action...sitting in front of the computer bitching doesn't cut it.

as Bill Moyers put it "WE ARE IN THE FIGHT OF OUR LIVES"

GO DU.......LET'S ROCK THIS NATION!

68. Think of how women fought, and what they fought against, to get the vote
What good was all that, if our votes mean nothing?

Maybe one little ant can't stop a train, but if thousands and thousands pile onto the tracks, that Repub train is going to get derailed. They can't squish us all :)

I'm in it for the long haul.

70. Count me in
After 2000 I thought just you wait 'til 2004. Well, no more Ms. nice guy. I won't be happy/satisfied until we bring this asshole to his knees. I can't believe what he and his minions have done to my/our country. If they commited crimes, and I truly believe they did, then I won't go quietly into the night this time.

And I don't care if there's another attack on us--no more circling the wagons. I don't care if there are five attacks. I'm not, and will never be "on board." Not this time.

over 7,000 troops from Iraq now AWOL

Thats right Rumsfeld, we don't want to play with guns and get shot at in our Hummers or should I say big clumsy no armor SUV's. We the humans want Our Children to stop killing and come home. We have figured out this stupid little mess. Most of us did not vote for you.

The concession does not matter eaither. all that matters is that we the People know the Election was staged. We figured out that you don't count our votes. All of us have figured it out. All we have to do is nudge the sleepers awake.

Is E-Voting ME-Voting? Prove it!

It would have been great to get Nixon out of there before his inauguration in '73. But having to wait until '74 was better than nothing.

91. Lots of similarities
and in some ways it was better for the country to have the whole sordid affair broadcast for weeks on end in the hearings. If Nixon had lost in '72, the whole story might not have come out.

92. Count me in!
I've definitely surprised myself with how vigilant and active I've been on this front since 11/3. Normally, I'm more of a "fly on the wall" observer type, and when the exit polls tragically and magically morphed into kerry's "defeat," I spent the next day in denial and depression. Occasionally, when I did think about the prospects of the Illegitimate Bush Term: Part Deux, I thought I would just have to think of it as a "four year sick day" - i.e. crawl under the covers and treat myself with as much TLC as humanly possible.

On 11/5, though, a remarkable thing happened, and my "illness" alchemized into anger. And ever since, I've been fighting mad, and involving myself more and more in the fight against this fraudulent traveshamockery of democracy.

So I will be not only there for the protests and demonstrations on 1/6 and 1/20 (I've already asked for the time off from work!), but I will continue to fight until this fraud is exposed. I honestly don't think I could live with myself otherwise.

Keep fightin' the good fight, everyone!

98. um...could you be more specific? Deceived about what?
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 01:01 AM by RevCheesehead
I'm not really into the "Good King Jimmy," so I don't reference verses in that manner.

My favorite verses about deception are Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. On that day, many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?" Then I will declare to them "I never knew you; go away from me, you evil-doers."

My other thought is maybe you're refering to the later parables in Matthew. These are the "end-time" parables, that talk about the need to keep awake and be watchful - and beware the false messiahs.

99. I like your first quote but I was looking for the other that you
mentioned. You know, I am not really a Bible quoter. I mean, sometimes I can refer to a quote but it's rare that I can tell you exactly where it came from. Anyway, I was thinking of that verse "be ye not deceived" in terms of not falling for the false messiahs. I hate those end-time thinkers...and that book of Revelations scared the bejeezes out of me. I really think it was written for another time, a past time. I can't imagine it as a literal ending, not with a loving God. Anyway, that's what I was talking about. Thanks for your reply Rev.

101. Okey-Dokey
Take a look at Matthew, chapter 24, and Mark, chapter 13. Either of those have nice, long passages about the end-time, the return of the Son of Man, and false Messiahs.

Don't tell anyone I told you this, but Revelation sucks. It's a DREAM, a VISION! NOT literal truth!!!

Oh, and I'm not a Bible quoter, either. But I keep one near the computer, and can usually look things up pretty fast. But if someone says "chapter and verse," I usually have to look it up, too.

I had an aunt who used to send me cards and letters with a little scripture PS at the bottom of the page. Don't think I ever looked up any of them (but she was sweet to think of me).

103. So, do you think people who believe in the literal Revelations
can manifest it. You know, like what you think about you bring about? I don't know. If it's too goofy or out there to answer, don't worry. I know what you mean about the sweet Aunt with the scriptures. I will look in the books you have directed me to. Thank you. I won't tell anyone about your opinion on the last book. It's nice to hear though. It reminds me of something JFK, as in Kennedy, said so many years ago. He said it is a "dangerous and defeatist attitude" not to believe in the possibility of world peace. (Not an exact quote of course.)
