Which Senator will join congress and sign a challenge to the election?
A plan of action is in order - a massive letter writing campaign to Senators likely to sign this. Lots of letters - they'll need to know they have the support of their constituents behind them.

Patty Murray come's to mind, she was one of the only Senators to vote against the Iraq invasion. Or Senator Byrd. Or John McCain }(

Any ideas?

14. Not a chance.
Not his style.

He's positioning himself as a mainstream Democrat - leaving open a possible future run for higher office. No way he's going to be the one-and-only vote for something like this.

4. It's not likely any of them will
Their first order of business is self preservation. Will Edwards or Daschle still be senators at the time, or will the New Congress have been sworn in by then?

5. None that didn't in 2000
Kerry and Edwards among them, of course, but now it's in THEIR interest, so who knows.

Can't hope for any senator elected before 2000.

21. Barbara Boxer is actually a good choice

Sign the petition - they are calling for Barbara Boxer to contest the Electors vote. Electoral Count Act of 1887, One Senator and One House Representative required to contest an election prior to inauguration . . . .

http://www.contestthevote.org/

They want to get 3,000 signatures by Wednesday night.

24. Don't count on it - I heard her on our local AAR station today
She said she is "monitoring the situation in Ohio" and would be "conferring with her colleagues in the Senate" about it.

No sign of commitment or conviction.

7. This is not going to happen
Not one would sign on four years ago. It's far less likely this time when bushco has a 3.6 million vote advantage. Fraud has not established as the proximate cause of his win.

BTW, Patty Murray was not "one of the only Senators to vote against the Iraq invasion." 23 Senators voted against it- including both of mine.

13. A retiring Dem
Aren't there some Dem. Senators who have decided not to run again, and whose term ends in 2006 ? This would seem a natural ,last shot effort to rescue what remains of our Democracy !

16. Personally, I think, if there is at that time evidence from the recount of
foul play, Kerry or Edwards would do it. That IS if there is something that they can hold on to in Ohio or Florida or anywhere else.

17. What difference could it possibly make?
You need one Senator to join in to make it a challenge...

...but then you have to actually win the vote on the challenge itself. Which means you've got to get ALL of them on board and quite a few Republicans.

This is simply NOT going to happen without additional evidence (LOTS of it). Why would one Senator stick his neck out just to get it cut off???

19. Even one Senator sets a legitimate precedent
And deligitimizes and humiliates Bush in the process. It is a very powerful protest. Methinks fraud would elicit a response this time. They won't get away with it this time if they shirk their responsibility....remember, we are all much more cognizant of the workings of our electoral process, we are exerting much more pressure than in 00 and they know we are watching.

20. Seems more like it "deligitimizes" that Senator.
When the vote goes virtually unanimously against him.

what about all the people who voted for the real winner, and how that this may restore faith in a fractured democracy? Thats why I think Byrd will do it. He is the only one.

25. Tom Harkin from Iowa?
Tom Harkin, a Senator from Iowa, who makes no apologies for his very-liberal politics.

I think he might step into the fray.

Harkin and Wellstone were best friends.
