Harper's running an editorial sympathetic to the fraud story 1/05 |
|
Posted for themistoclea
Hi everyone:
This is my first post. I wanted everyone to know that Lewis Lapham of Harper's magazine has written a long editorial for the January issue of his magazine. He argues that their are two interpretations of why the Dems lost, and ends up siding with the fraud story. It might not be on the stands yet, but I'm a subscriber and I received mine yesterday.

I'll look for that issue on the stands. How is the logic?

Subject: Harper's Message:
Hi everyone, Lapham is a very smart, respected man. He's also been writing some of the best criticisms of the Republican party for the past two years.
The logic in the essay is clear. But he doesn't seem to think anything can be done about the election now, though. He ends the essay saying that the only thing the Dems can do is steal the election next time.
He made it clear that he's been reading the blogs every day, and that he found the explanations about fraud more convincing than the ones about morality, etc. I suspect he reads DU!

9. I take issue with those who say "nothing can be done about the election" |
|
Can you even imagine a Repub saying something like that? Their comrades would fall upon them with tooth and claw and nothing would be left but little shreds of flesh and puddles of blood.
I don't know Mr. Lapham's political orientation, and I am pleased that he is covering the fraud angle from research and observation. However, I reserve the right to strongly disagree with what I consider to be an erroneous conclusion (nothing can be done). This talking point seems to be parroting itself throughout the MSM even as the fraud issue is making headway.
Welcome to DU, the mistoclea :hi:

I agree with you, but Lapham's criticisms of the Repubs have been some of the most scathing I have seen. You should check out the magazine some time. He is by no means a fence-sitter, but I think he feels that the Repubs are so corrupt that it will be hard to win this issue.

14. Sequence of fraud story |
|
(Similar to the Ghandi quote, but elaborated):
First total media lockdown. Next a slight leak with Olbermann (and maybe others) in the MSM. Next the rightie bloggers are bellowing and name calling. Next there's a huge MSM article (WaPost)
The story has gone from silence, to "Fraud, what fraud?" to "Well, maybe a glitch or two, but nothing serious" to "Well, big trouble, but not enough votes to change the outcome" to "Well, yeah so many votes were stolen it's obviously changed the outcome, but nothing can be done about it now.
Next will be "OK, Ok, we'll overturn small elections" and next it's "OK, Chimpo is out, but we'll have the Supreme Cronies appoint another of our guys." next "OK, you can have your guy, but next time we'll fix it even bigger." next "OK, the mobs have tossed us out and the Dems and Greens are in there repairing our electoral system." next "Waaaahhhh, I want my welfare! Where's my welfare? I'm hungry!"
Ask a "welfare queen" for some help, Mr. "welfare is bad".
