ABC news reporting a "quiet protest" planned for inauguration
WASHINGTON Dec 15, 2004 — No buttons, signs or unusual dress will distinguish the protesters from the thousands who will line the inaugural parade route next month, but at a set time, they say they will demonstrate against President Bush by turning their backs on the chief executive.

Coupled with the widely expected pomp and pageantry of a presidential inauguration are demonstrations by protesters angered by Bush's policies, in particular the war in Iraq.

Getting ready for Jan. 20, 2005, various groups are using Web sites, e-mails, fliers and word of mouth to urge thousands of demonstrators to gather in the nation's capital.

Among planned events are an anti-war rally and three-mile march to the White House, a massive bike ride similar to those that disrupted traffic in New York City before the Republican National Convention, and a "die-in" to remind the nation of more than 1,200 U.S. dead in Iraq.

That's all well and good but I want to be part of a VERY NOISY protest at the inauguration!

2. I am unable to go to DC
I'll instead be dressed in black, head to toe, as befits a day of deep mourning.

4. Yes, that's exactly how I plan to spend the day - it deep mourning
and dressed head-to-toe in black. I'm also unable to go to DC mostly due to work schedule. But I've also vowed not to go as long as there is a Bush in office even though my husband wants to vacation there sometime.

6. It's a great place to be a tourist
I know, I've lived there twice. Expect to take at least a week, though, as the Smithsonian Institution is a must see, and it's huge.

However, I agree. I don't think I'd want to go while the Texas Mafia controls it.

3. Thousands and thousands of people...
Who simply turn their back at the same time, would be incredible street theater and send a powerful and responsible message. The cameras would be drawn to it like bees to honey. None but the most irresponsible and uncredible would find it offensive. The cops would take a terrible PR hit if they arrested people for simply turning their back.

Save the noise for another time and place of your own choosing, on ground of your own(and any movement's) choosing. Jan. 20 will be The Chimp's day. Getting the shit kicked out of you and arrested will accomplish little that day. There will be many days ahead. Far too many.

Turn your back and hang your heads in shame. Shame for all of us. For those of the prayerful persuasion, pray at that time.

Ghandi would know what he was seeing immediately. So will many, many others. It will resonate deeply.

7. No, there should be noise
"SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!" was very effective in 2000.

Don't expect the whore press to show anyone but that little knot of 15 Freepers who are wildly cheering their little tin Jesus.

It's important to be there and to be heard and seen. It's the only chance we'll have to show that moron that he doesn't have a mandate.

12. I think the adoring Bushies in the crowd will be quite offended
by people turning their backs on the chimp. Could be fights.

8. ABC is priming this protest
Who is involved in the protest? Where was it started? I know a thread was started here today about joining but this was after news reports on it. Considering we are at the front of most Democratic protests ( or those of anyone against shrub) why didn't we know about it? More importantly why haven't ABC or any other corporate news organization primed the protests in Ohio before the election was certified? Many here tried very hard to organize a major march right after the fraud election without 1 peep from these people. I guess they think a quiet march against shrub would make good copy and give them an opportunity to slam the protesters that attend.

Imagine the tv screen, shrub is supposed to be surrounded by soldiers and off in the distance they have split screened all the nonpatriotic protesters marching. I have no doubt this is what they are up to.

17. "dont know who they are".. i dont either..drains us away from REAL action
that can stop the theft of this election.

see my other nearby re;

Energy should go into rallys NOW, .. only they can stop the theft.

Inaugration efforts drain our energy into totally nonproductive, ineffective channels.

14. Rally NOW. Dont divert energy into rally that will be 2 late to stop the
theft of this election.

Dont work on Jan 2O and do nothing now. That diverts you from doing something effective about stopping the theft.

Ignore the inaugration!

Work on current rallys.

Personally, i think inaugration rallys make the GOP happy. They know it drains us away from REAL action now.

19. considering protesters will be ferreted away
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 09:57 PM by KaliTracy
like they were at the GOP convention and all of the rallies (50,000 people here in West Chester, and protesters got to be in a little area away from everyone).... I say, dress conservative, leave your eggs at home (why get arrested now?), and play up the the fact that he is attempting to have a "real" walk to the white house and that cameras IGNORED all that went on that day in 2000. WHO saw the problems and the eggs, and the run back to the car unless they were there throwing -- until Michael Moore got the footage and put it in his movie.

THEY WILL NOT FILM EGGS!! you will not be able to stay more than 30 seconds, I guarentee, if you lob one. Ditto noise makers, and everything else -- they WILL NOT film -- they will ignore, and the cops will come and you might feel better, but no one who is watching would ever know....

BUT -- a street full of people, happy, go-lucky, "clean conservative" types... who happen to quietly turn and bow their heads as he/his car passes.... if there are enough of us.... it WOULD make a message.... and how can a cop arrest you for turning around? We don't live in a POLICE STATE do we? *not yet as long as congress people fight for democracy!*

I am in Ohio and Concentrating on efforts to get more officials involved, but I just wanted to chime in -- it's true that from "somewhere" this story came -- but who cares? Unless one, in these united states, has to sign a loyalty agreement to witness his walk down the street, why not participate in a powerful, non-violent, free-speech movement?

*stepping off my soapbox*

You may return to your regularly scheduled program... and while you are at it, maybe you could write 3 letters to your congress people now to STAND UP FOR DEMOCRACY and investigate anomalies in the election.... :)
