2. Why?The Repub electors voted already and so their role has come and gone.
Now we're working on finding out whether the vote should have gone to Kerry and if so the Dem electors will have to vote and we'll have to have a dog fight about which electors will count.

they're picked? Or being rewarded for being electors?

They're selected first based on party affiliation.. Then some are picked by actually running for office/services to the party/etc.

12. In my state
they get $3 plus $.15 a mile for travelling to the capital.

The "reward" is just the honor of haivng been selected an elector.
