Micheal from TRIAD/ Madsen Articles Could there be a Connection?
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 11:27 AM by Verve
I know this is a long shot. And yes my tinfoil hat is on too tight. But, something struck me odd about the technician Micheal, in the affidavit. This is an extremely brazen act for someone to commit. To walk into an office unannounced, to start tampering with a computer that anyone with commonsense knows is off limits, and to coach office workers how to beat the hand recount. Who could really pull this off confidently?

Words that come to mind about this type of individual include sly, extremely confidant, manipulative, and con man. Now does this sound to you like the average technician? I know there may be some techs that are like this, and it's possible that Triad would only look to hire individuals like this. But, really! What this guy did was extremely slick. The average tech or for that matter, the average individual, would have been extremely nervous about pulling this off.

So questions come to mind. Did he not know he was committing fraud? Or, did he know this was fraudulent behavior and he's just done this so many times before that he's used to conning others?

What do we know about this Micheal? Do we know his last name? Do we know how long he has worked for Triad? Do we know if the office workers had seen him before? It would be interesting to find out.

One far out theory that came to me, concerns the Madsen articles. In one article, Madsen claims that ex-FBI agents from Texas were posing as real FBI agents to help rig the election for *. Obviously this has not been verified to my knowledge. But what if this was true? Could it be likely that one of these con men posed as the computer technician, Michael? Ex-agents, con men, now these are people I infer could confidently pull off what Michael did.

Yeah this is a reach, I know, but I thought it was worth getting it out there. Comments? (Please make sure to put on your tinfoil hat before you begin! :tinfoilhat: )

2. We Know Who Mike Is, But Your Points are Still Valid
"Mystery Mike" is no longer a mystery; he has been identified as Michael Barbian, Jr

http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/121604Z.shtml

Your thoughts and analysis still make lots of sense; an ordinary tech would not want to, and could not be effective, at doing this con job.

I expect he could easily have a spook background, and was hired by TRIAD for precisly this reason.

Now that he has a name, there should be an extensive background check on him (Google did not help me much here).

Keep asking questions, and never be defensive about what Bush & Co. might do - we can only see a small fraction of the dirty shit they have pulled off.

5. I wonder, though, if he really knew what he was doing...
Perhaps all the techs were told, "you have to put this patch on to prep it for the recount" and they didn't really know the contents of the patch. Only the person who wrote the patch would have to know. (The interview with the Conyers person on Raw Story says that this happened in dozens of counties).

7. I can see that, and his asking about which precinct could have
been normal curiousity - if his job is election software, seems similar to the copy repair guy asking about when we were going to run XXXX while he was doing repairs. The tech would not have to know (and if something was input to either fix the count or wipe out previous tampering) would be smarter not to have a low level tech know.

9. Other threads are saying this guy was lying. Changing a dead
battery and applying a patch was not what he was doing. I'm not a computer expert but some of these DUer's sound like they are:

14. He is identified in the body of Conyers' letter
On December 13, my staff met with Ms. Eaton who explained to them that last Friday, December 10, Michael Barbian, Jr., a representative of Triad GSI unilaterally sought and obtained access to the voting machinery and records in Hocking County, Ohio, modified the computer tabulator, learned which precinct was planned to be the subject of the initial test recount and made further alterations based on that information, and advised the election officials how to manipulate the machinery so that the preliminary hand recount matched the machine count. Ms. Eaton first relayed this information to Green Party representatives, and then completed, signed and notarized an affidavit describing this course of events, a copy of which is attached.

Will Pitt put it all together in a tight package. Thanks. Will.

I think it is an interesting thought and not far out! What county closed down on election nite and remember Homeland Sec. was susposed to be warning of a terrorist threat, and yet when asked both of these agencies denied ordering any such order! Strange......

is to act like you are suppose to be there.

Frightened by history

No major corporation has ventured into the U.S. voting equipment business since IBM, which popularized punch-card voting in the United States, got out of it in the early 1970s. IBM sold the rights to its Votomatic machine to four of its salesmen, who started a called Computer Election Systems. At the time, their only competition was from old-fashioned paper ballots and from mechanical lever voting machines, which had been around since the late 1800s.

(But now) The nation's secretaries of State want modernized equipment, and Congress may pour up to $2.5 billion into upgrades.

Now, the prospect of huge infusions of federal money is prompting some large players to rethink their aversion for the voting equipment business.

Harder than selling computers

For example, when Ohio election officials gathered at a Columbus hotel in January, equipment vendors turned the hotel's fifth floor into one continuous cocktail party. Riding up in an elevator, one county official checked with an equipment salesman to make sure he was ready to pour her favorite, Captain Morgan rum.

In room 531, Triad GSI of Xenia, Ohio had set up a Votomatic machine with a butterfly ballot from Palm Beach County, Fla., side by side with its electronic touch-screen model.

In Room 501, elections printer Barrett Brothers had its hospitality suite. Dayton Legal Blank, a printer and sales representative for an equipment maker, entertained in 509. The best party was in Room 506, where ES&S served hot hors d'oeuvres along with drinks.

'Extremely competitive environment'

Ten days later, some of the same companies - and even a few of the same salesmen - were in Orlando, where Florida county election supervisors gathered. Global's suite was holding a drawing for a large box of Belgian chocolates. Hart Intercivic, marketing an electronic voting machine, gave away a 13-inch color TV/VCR. Election software maker Iris lured officials by offering a chance at a gold necklace. "It is an extremely competitive environment," says Craft, the Florida official. "You have a static market, a fixed number of jurisdictions that need equipment. You've got all these vendors fighting for the same market."

<snip>

Sometimes, salesmen feel the pressure to perform what they consider improper favors for election officials. One, who asked not to be identified for fear of losing business, told of encountering an election supervisor in a small Georgia county who listened to a sales presentation, then asked, "What's in it for me?"
