PA Electoral Votes
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 12:01 PM by rabid_nerd
Remember our DLC Member, former DNC Chair, Governor Ed Rendell?

How many watched him on C-SPAN during the PA Electoral votes?

"Whether you're Democrat or Republican, Independent or Green..."
(I'm sure Libertarians and Constitution Party people didn't miss that)

"We're not just a Blue State, we're a Red White and Blue State..."

He got an 0.5% recount law passed at the last moments, isn't afraid to be controversial with words, man, I almost wish WE WERE OHIO.

And we're FIGHTING to take over the first primary status for 08, so NH can kiss our butt!

Yeah, he's about as slick as ol' Willy (maybe more so), maybe not a rock star look, but he's NO Al From a-hole or Lieberman backstabber type, that's for sure.

ON EDIT: I am not promoting for '08 - Rendell has removed himself for '08.. I am just talking about the PA Electoral Vote coverage on C-SPAN and Rendell's mention and inclusion of Greens and effictive activism

2. But he's just another Northeastern yankee to the south
Like him I do, and I wish he had a chance to win the Presidential election, but the south isn't going to go for a northeasterner for a looong time I'm afraid. That includes Hillary.

A Midwesterner, a southerner, or a Western candidate could make inroads in the south

5. oh, boo-hoo the poor south
will have a hissy if a northeasterner is nominated. When will they figure out that the civil war is over. Northeasterners accepted Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Al Gore. At least they are open minded on the subject.

7. The South can go to hell
Don't forget Ed Rendell is jewish...so by god, he'll NEVER be electable to the South.
It's amazing that everyone can use 'the South' as a direct euphemism for 'bunch of racist homophobic antisemitic rednecks', and never question "Why do we want to cater to them, anyway?"
we may never win their states, but i just can't see any reason to 'vanillafy' dem support for racial equality and tolerance for all people.
I think it is true that if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. Let's stop pandering and start leading by example.
putting in my sig that's dropped by current policy...only here because it is appropriate
"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality." - MLK Jr

8. I'd like to see every state vote on the same day in the primary
One big shoot out. No state totals, just a national popular vote to see who we want to run. Now that would give the common person a voice. In the old days it was hard to get news about a local candidate who wasn't known nationally. Back then one big popular vote primary would have made it hard to keep a level playing field between Washington types and local firebrands.

Now with the internet every dem would have a chance to read for themselves about the candidates. Then vote for the guy we want all at once. If the mass of dems trend towards a liberal or conservative dem, then we know thats the way the country is trending at large and we go with that person.
