Two N.C. Officials Resign Over Voting Problems
GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Two local elections officials resigned after investigations revealed mishandling of vote tallies in Gaston County, including more than 13,000 ballots that weren't discovered until after Election Day.

Sandra Page, elections director, and Tony Branch, chairman of the elections board, resigned Wednesday following a closed-door meeting of the board.

The counsel for the state board, Don Wright, had questioned Page for two days about the county's numerous problems on Election Day, including a failure by poll workers to check the number of ballots cast against the number of people recorded as voting.

The county failed to include more than 13,000 ballots - nearly one in five of those cast - in its unofficial election results. The tally was later updated, but dozens of ballots cast at curbside by voters who could not walk into a precinct may not have been counted, officials said.

1. Perfect.
Perhaps if more people are forced to resign at least in OH, ordinary people might get a clue. But I'm not holding my breath.

2. Hauling them off to jail might be a better deterrent when such negligence
is committed. It is gross negligence at best, treason at worst.

4. For those not familiar...
When things started looking strange, the state officials came to town to investigate what was going on there. Sandra Page was with the inspectors when she mentioned she had to leave for a doctors appointment. She had been with the inspectors all morning and had failed to mention it before that time. Later that day, or the next morning, the news was reporting that she was out of the office on medical leave until after the first of the year. She claims innocence but I think it a strange turn of events that led to this point.
