Petition to Congress - election investigation - 54,048 signatures
I don't know if this has been linked before, but considering the number of signitures this petition already has, I thought it was worth pointing it out. Spread the word!

Try to sign it. It doesn't allow duplicates, so it can't hurt.

9. But then what? Who takes this to Congress?
Where do these things go when they are signed? Is someone responsible for making sure Congress finds out about this? Just curious since I am one of the many who sign these all the time but have no idea what happens afterwards...

10. Keep Signing if You Haven't Yet.
Rick Gagliano has delivered this petition to Congress on Nov. 30, 2004. There were about 52,000 signiatures at that time.

If you haven't signed the petition then please do so. Just because it has been delivered to Congress once, doesn't mean we won't need to provide them an updated version at a later date.

You would think that with 53,000+ signatures, a lot of people would be aware of the petition news page. Well, a link to it is hidden in small print at the bottom of the petition page.

You can view news and updates about the petition here:
http://www.dtmagazine.com/petitionupdate.html

This is probably why only some 250 people are on the email update list. You can sign up for email updates from the petition update page.

Rick is providing fewer updates since the delivery to Congress. I have a collection of his past updates that I can post if anyone cares to read them.

The official newsletter of A Petition to Congress requesting an investigation into the Presidential Election of 2004

More information at:

Greetings Petitioners,

I believe we have reached a point at which we can submit our petition to Congress.

If you've been following developments, you should be aware that certain members of the House of Representatives have been requesting an investigation by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) into irregularities in the 2004 election.

After two letters - on November 5 and November 8 - the Congressmen received a response from the GAO in the affirmative. That agency would move forward with an investigation.

Originally, I had expressed a point of view that the aim of our petition was different from what the Congressmen were seeking. Upon reviewing the various documents and following developments, I admit that I was mistaken. The goals of both the petition and the Congress are the same and we now have a mechanism to deliver the petition to the House Committee on the Judiciary.

At this time, there are now 14 members of the House who have signed on to the GAO request and share in the aim of the House Committee on the Judiciary, though not all of them serve on that committee. It is important to note that some of these legislators have signed on in response to complaints from their constituents. In fact, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter represents my district and I noted her addition with great interest and as an affirmation of her agreement with the intent of our petition.

The mechanism I spoke of earlier, for delivery of the petition, is on the web site of Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY). Also on the page linked below are the two letters sent to the GAO. Rep. Nadler, along Robert Wexler (FL) and John Conyers (MI), was one of the original signers of the first letter to the GAO. There is a form on that page by which our petition and signatures can be added to the official comments to the committee.

I will be preparing a document for submission, but I would like to hear from anyone who has comments or objections about this before I proceed.

During the past two weeks, both Congressman Nadler and Conyers have expressed a point of view that should the GAO investigation turn up significant irregularities the matter would then be referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary. Formal hearings could then follow. Conyers made his comments on the MSNBC show "Countdown" with Keith Olbermann. Nadler made his similar statement on the PBS show, "Charlie Rose."

I would like to point out that Committee hearings carry great weight and have subpoena power. It was Sam Ervin's Senate Select Committee on Watergate that led to the unraveling of the Watergate scandal and the dismantling of the presidency of Richard Nixon.

I know that many of you have expressed an interest in challenging the election results and the eventual electoral vote on December 7. I share that view, and still hold out hope for that possibility, but time is running short on that front, and we must face reality and commit ourselves to working with the House members and the House Committee on the Judiciary.

We can only hope that the GAO does its work and that the House convenes hearings. In the meantime, we should keep in contact with our elected officials in the House and Senate and urge their attention to election issues and the work of the House Committee on the Judiciary.

I am supplying a couple of links. The first is a link to Rep. Jerrold Nadler's page with the form for submitting official comments to the Committee. There are also links to the two letters to the GAO on that page, which can be found at:
http://www.house.gov/nadler/issue-gao.shtml

The other page is the web page of the House Committee on the Judiciary, located at:
http://www.house.gov/judiciary/members.htm

Many thanks to everyone,

Rick Gagliano

Sorry to break in again so soon after saying "adieu" but I thought this would be of significant interest to all of you.

(I feel like that I'm part of the popular expression, which goes something like "as soon as you think you're out, they drag you back in again.")

The House Judiciary Hearings investigating election irregularities will be broadcast beginning tomorrow at 10:00 am Eastern on C-SPAN.

There is also a blog devoted to it by lead writer for truthout.org, William Rivers Pitt. That blog is live now and contains excellent background information including a link to the letter from the committee to Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell and a list of committee members and speakers. It can be found on the web at http://www.truthout.org/cblog.shtml

A discussion forum on the hearings has been set up at DemocraticUnderground .com.

I am hoping this link direct to the forum is working.

At the very least, this should be interesting to see just how powerful the arguments and the committee questions are.

Until next time,

Rick Gagliano

15. I'm on Rick Gagliano's e-mail list
He sent this e-mail to me some time ago. I would contact him and ask him if he is still accepting signatures. He had planned on hand delivering the petition, but ended up e-mailing it. Anyway, I wouldn't want to discourage more people from signing it, but I would definitely contact him to see what's up. Maybe he does still plan to submit it in writing, or will send follow-up signatures. His website, I believe, is http://dtmagazine.com It's also highlighted in small print at the bottom of the petition, maybe he has further info here. I received one other e-mail from him since this letter, and it was an "alert" with some details of Conyer's info, etc. but nothing more about the petition. Just thought I'd let everyone know this. Hope it helps.

Petition's Progress #8, 12/07/04
In case you weren't aware, our petition was delivered to the House Judiciary Committee on November 30,2004, via the internet. The entire transcript of the message sent is on the Update page on my site.

I have spent the past week catching up on my business, from which I took a three week leave of absence recently to devote to the petition and the furtherance of its goals.

I would assume that not many of you reading this would be capable of pursuing anything for very long that did not somehow contribute to your livelihood or income.

In that consideration, I had to make a decision as to whether to pursue the aims of the petition and continue in the effort of many on the internet - to raise issues, awareness and consciousness - for an extended period, because the issue of the election may go on "ad infinitum" and also because there are more issues which are related to our democracy which need attention or go back to conducting my business.

There was, for me, no middle ground.

Because I cannot sustain myself without some form of income, the choice I had to make was more economic than any other.

While I am quite certain that the ideas expressed in the petition were sound, the goal was for a Congressional investigation and hearings, and that process has begun.

Whether our signatures had anything to do with the actions of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee may never be known, but I know that all of the signers of the petition had the best interests of our nation in mind.

Now it is up to our government and those in whom we trust to carry the effort forward.

While I will follow events and occasionally update my web site, until and unless there are extraordinary circumstances to warrant any notification to the subscribers of this newsletter, you will not hear from me.

I thank each and every one of you, especially those who made contributions of money and/or time and effort. You are true Americans and patriots.

It is my sincere hope that we will yet prevail and I wish all of you peace and happiness.

God bless America.

Sincerely,

Rick Gagliano

21. emailed Rick to ask if I could take over
Wow, thanks for that heads up on the petition.

Since it doesn't sound like he's planning on doing anything else with the petition, I emailed him and asked if I could take over. I've never done anything like this before, and I don't know what I'll be able to do...but this is just too important.

Yeah, we've got the HJC democrats looking into it, but we still don't have the MSM reporting on it, we don't have reassurance that the recounts are valid, we don't know what will happen with the lawsuits, Blacwell's still SOS, the machines haven't been impounded, Kerry hasn't come out and made a strong statement, and we don't have any confirmation of senators willing to challenge on Jan 6th. There's still lots to do. Far to go.

So, keep signing!

I'll let you know when I get a reply.

I'd like to know which ones did the ground work? Did read a comment by a dolphy (name) that challenged oops sorry challAnged voters. Such wit really and brains... just a group of pranksters...

Sad they have no idea what their leader is really doing to them. I believe they're sadists.

(edit to add) When I signed it was around 1500. It's so beautiful that the numbers are growing despite the pranksters.

but I just did it again, just in case. It doesn't stop you from doing it again and there's no search function. There are a lot of dupes, from what I can tell, and the Freeps seem to have done their usual damage, as well, although not quite as badly as others I've seen.
