WA: Looks like Gregoire will pull this one out of the hat! 2 counties left
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 04:01 PM by merwin
http://vote.wa.gov/general/recount_resultsbycounty.aspx

According to the latest results, Pierce county came back with their results, and basically wiped out Rossi's lead back to what it was after the manual counting, and there's still two counties left!

Rossi is ahead by 43 votes total now. Spokane County, and King County are left.
Here's the breakdown:
Spokane County was 90k to 100k (Gregoire/Rossi). She lost that one.
King County was 505k to 351k (Gregoire/Rossi). She won that one bigtime.

Even without the 573 "extra" votes in King County that are still somewhat under debate, it looks like she's going to pull this one out of the hat.

Also, take a look at Snohomish and Pierce counties. Very odd results coming back from the machine recounts to the manual recounts. Snohomish County had almost 200 votes added to the total (from a paperless electronic voting system there), and Pierce county added around 450 votes to their total (not sure what system they use). That seems pretty screwed up, although both of these strange occurances gave Gregoire lots of extra net votes in counties that she lost. Seems to me like there was a bit of supression going on somewhere, either that or some bigtime errors.

Hopefully they will figure out why that happened...

2. It would be nice to win W/OUT the controversial ones, though they should
be counted.

6. Well, who's making them 'controversial?'
The Thugs, that's who. Those shitasses and their meme-"Don't change the rules" Yeah right-that privilege is reserved only for the GOP. Their new rule: "Don't count ballots that were mislaid and never counted, and would throw the advantage to the true winner of the election."

You're losing ya big losers. Now YOU STFU and go home!

5. I observed Spokane County
Rossi will pick up votes in Spokane, but they will dwarf compared to what Gregoire picks up in King county.

The results of the hand count in Spokane County will be very dependable. The people counting the votes were so accurate and consistent that, by the end, there was hardly anything to dispute. Three times I saw ballots that were missed, mis-sorted or questionable. All three were caught by the counters at the table and corrected before they finished the final tally for the precinct.

I now wish that all elections across the nation could be counted by hand, with observers from both parties sitting at the table as we did. It is a fair and dependable way to tally votes, and would restore faith in our process.

13. Which doesn't make sense at all
You've got to count them anyway, and have the observers, why not count the others? It probably would have been an inexpensive add-on to do, if there was "standing". Did Cobb have standing or Nader? Should have gone for it.

17. Both Nader and Cobb had "standing".....
....but, my hope is at least one of the observers at each county were recording Pres/VP and Senate as they were observing each ballot. All we need to know are the comparative numbers in counties like Snohomish, Yakima, Walla Walla, Spokane, Pierce, Tacoma, Kitsap and King to have a clearer picture of ballots vs what was recorded at each county central tabulating center (and have a sense of what the folk in Snohomish and Yakima produced from the papertrail-less evote devices used in those two counties).

We'll see if folk had their 'eyes open' or not....

Peace.

21. I was an observer in Snohomish county
I was an observer in Snohomish county.
We were only allowed 4 observers and there were 27 teams counting, so it was not like we could even really count the votes for governor, let alone any other race.

15. Kerry took 53% of the vote in WA St.
Recounting those votes wouldn't change the 11 electoral votes' destination. They're Kerry's.

18. That is not the issue. The issue is detecting an explanation for ..
....'red shift' which, in the case of WA State was 2.9

Peace.

11. It looks like we won't have Dino Rossi to kick around anymore.
Seriously, look at his behavior these last few weeks. Calling on Gregoire to "do the honorable thing" with thousands of ballots to be counted and the outcome essentially a tossup. Then saying the hand audit would result in an "illegitimate Governorship".

Now after complaining the time and expense he's about to ask for a "do over".

No class. No class at all.

20. Related thread
See related thread, "Arnebeck Speaks" at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... for additional information on vote-rigging in Ohio and Washington. See specifically the original message by ClintCooper2003 and response #9 by understandinglife. I tried to forward that info on to people with connections in WA, but don't know if they forwarded the message on or not. Hopefully, Gregoire will be able to pull it out in spite of those problems!
