6. There is no room for the general public down Pennsylvania avenue!
they have rigged it so that only "A" and "B" groups have access to the event.

8. You won't be allowed to view the motorcade.
Let alone turn your back on it.

That's why I think we should have memorials for democracy in our home towns, and leave DC to embarrass itself with overkill security.

There ought to be a protest in every city and hamlet in the USA. Is anyone organizing such a protest?

31. absolutely
I was actually going to spend money to go to DC just to participate. Obviously that would be pointless now. A memorial service for democracy is a brilliant idea.

41. "memorials for democracy in our home towns" It wont be covered
MSM will ignore it, as they do rallies now. The only way to get coverage now is to get "in front" of the cameras.

BE IN WASHINGTON ON INAUGURATION DAY! ONE MILLION STRONG! WITH OR WITHOUT PERMITS! THEY CAN'T ARREST THAT MANY PEOPLE, CAN THEY!

11. Tickets?
They said that Ticketmaster would not provide people on the C list (the general public) tickets in 2001. The A list is the "in crowd," the B list is registered Republicans. Will the "C" list be stopped at checklists?

There is no corral or pen, Verheyden-Hilliard said. The Republicans are planning to physically occupy the public space with bleachers between 9th & 10th Street, and sell tickets to raise money for *. Justice Dept., FBI Building.

They're trying to discourage people from coming, but it is lawful - it's a public street.

www.answercoalition.org has a form letter to let them know that keeping the troops in Iraq is not with our consent.

10. Yes. The women speaking now is excellent. They put in for their
permits quite some time ago. They are putting in bleachers to occupy space to block them from protesting. Only allowing "private" parties. Ticket master only sells to group "A" and "B" NONE for the general public.

17. (musical interlude)
A smile on my face
A song on my lips
Pretending is all I do
I'm painting the town red
To hide a heart that's blue

I'm gay with the crowd
I play with the crowd
But oh, if they only knew
I'm painting the town red
To hide a heart that's blue
Must I go on carrin' on?

My merry song is just pretend
Loving you so, wanting you so
Where will it end, how will it end?

A smile on my face
A song on my lips
But never forgetting you
I'm painting the town red
To hide a heart that's blue

-- Billie Holiday

20. Under "normal" circumstances I understand that security has to
protect a President from whacko assassins...HOWEVER keeping the general public from viewing their "Leader" as he parades by is unconscionable.

I'm guessing that any "pop-up" protests/protestor will be hauled off to jail. BUT would they actually "fire on" people for civil disobedience you think? If not, I'd be for "crashing" the party en masse. If the protest isn't seen via the air waves, it doesn't have as much (or any) impact.

Crap, this is the first prime opportunity to hit the streets for Democracy and the group has already been thwarted. I'd hate to see all that organizing go for nought.

If I wasn't way out here on left coast, in a disabled condition, I'd go to the protest anyway...permits or no permits. Easy for me to say though, isn't it. :( Shit!

27. With the numbers we will have there, we will take over the streets
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 09:58 PM by GetTheRightVote
it is a public demostration, it makes it that much more important now, when people see us taking to the streets in the middle of the day pushing beyond the breachers they will know that we are really angry with their tricks and abuse of us, this will be great. I see the news reports now, "They tried to defeat them but they pushed by into the streets, their numbers to great to keep them away...". We will be like th Chileans in their country where they tried to stop them but it did not work, 75,000 people took over the city, as we will take DC. We will take DC for the people of Iraq, for our dead soldiers, we will show * what we are made of, I can not wait for the day. I hope we have a million people, who can stop a million people from marching anywhere.

28. Siting at a lunch counter while black was again the law too
But they did it. and they got arrested for sure but they were using the tactic of CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.

So it may be up to those that can risk being arrested in a non violent sit in protest to get the attention of the media, just like the civil rights movement of the sixties if there is any hop of changing this system.
But if anyone dares to suggest any violent act be assured they are freepers or plants trying to discredit it all.

35. Some of us at the DU have been ranting for weeks that
the only way to bring the beast to heel is through the boycott. There is no way the media will ever cover our efforts when they've been bribed by Bush tax breaks. We are a fascist nation. A corporate owned, ceo-governed society who's only weakness is a dependency on our money.

Money is their life blood. Stop the flow of money to them.

Stop patronizing the networks. Stop buying what their sponsors sell. Don't just talk about it. Do it! How dare us be ruled by the Cheneys, Frists, and Hasterts. They are not Americans. We are.

They are not our leaders. We are.

that looks unplanned. You know, no protest signs -- maybe a gridlock at a strategic location. Also, they will probably ban signs so we have to think of a way to obviously show protest without signs

45. REALLY good idea
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 09:56 AM by femme.democratique
all you need is 50 or so cars to totally accidentally "break down" in the middle of the road to stall and block traffic on all the major roads leading into the city. of course the cars would be totally bedecked with things like "BUSH LOST" "Election Fraud '05" etc. (or maybe not?) it would take them some time to tow all the vehicles away and would definitely get some media attention. granted , the people in the cars would be arrested....
