First forgive me for my ignorance, I'm a first time voter, I've squandered my mind on less important things. Now I find myself playing catch up trying learn about our voting system. But I really am trying and gaining some knowledge.
I would like your help in area of Precincts: Do election boards throw them out and place them back in? Are they determined by the party? for instance Dem's choose what precincts loose polling places, and which add them:
Are they determined by the number of registered voters? Or just the population?
Who chooses what stays and what goes in regards to precincts?
I know I'm new.. but I crunched some numbers last night.
Are you aware that In Summit county someone? who ever decides it (heavy Kerry area) They LOST 149 polling places.!

2. Your answer is very, VERY local. |
|
The county elections board determines the makeup of precincts. Who, specifically at the county level does this, is determined in a variety of ways.
You'd be better off getting in touch with your local League of Women voters and finding some activists there, or picking up the phone on Monday and calling your county and asking those questions. I know how it's done in MY county, but the answer for your county is probably totally different.

But I suppose I could still pick up a phone.
How is it done in your county?

4. Our elections office does it, and there is a citizen |
|
county-level advisory board which is made up of people of different party affiliations which reviews it.
But, it's really really different in each state.
If you're specifically interested in Ohio, you should subscribe to the CASE-OH yahoogroup and review some of their old postings. The answer might be there. That's Susan Truitt's group -- they do good work.
