Report: Electors Across US Call for Investigation of 2004 Election

Across the US electors in at least five states, for the first time in history, turned the heavily scripted and ritualized electoral college proceedings into a forum for political action. Frustrated by the relative inattention to wide spread real voting violations now numbering in the tens of thousands, Electors called for congressional investigation and legislative action.

1. Did We Not Know This???
Did we know that statements like that were made on camera that day?

I would swear I didn't hear anything on that here but maybe I was paying attention elsewhere?

Some things are just NEVER fucking good enough for some people.

I'll tell ya what,

Why don't ya tell me who won Vermont, Maine, Massachusets, and California, then tell me if withdrawing their EC votes would've helped us or not......

14. It is the message that is of my interest
The message of negativity that just runs rampant. It would serve many here far better to start looking why the glass is half full rather than half empty.

To find something actually to be negative and bitter about with the OP's thread/link is laughable to me.

I also found it absurd to insinuate that they should've refused to vote.

Once again, who won Maine, Vermont, California, and Massachusetts?

60. But Insane-cratic-girl is right
It is frustrating that the EC votes went ahead when fraud was on their minds. It should have been postponed and made history that way. If their questioning of fraud and request for an investigation makes you peeved then I question your stance.

Like in California, 10 electors were replaced. I don't know the reasons. Maybe IAR could clue us in?

9. At least one CA elector, Chuck Lowry, spoke of doing something
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 05:45 PM by seito
"other than what they were expected to do" in a speech he gave at the Rally in Sac on Dec 12th. He really hammered the importance of keeping the pressure on Senator Boxer to contest the election on Jan 6.

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/nation/story/11763513p-12648443c.html

"I think the Electoral College is obsolete and we should be able to have our votes counted - and counted accurately," said Chuck Lowery of Oceanside, who served as secretary of the state delegation to the Electoral College

He was probably the elector that cast the provisonal ballot. That news was not even covered in the local paper.

"Most extraordinarily, one elector in California cast his ballot provisional upon "all votes being counted " provisional, absentee, under- and overvotes, computerized without paper ballots, even getting valid votes from those turned away illegally, intimidated, discouraged by incredibly long waits, etc.? This incredible act as a creative attempt to get this message read on the floor of Congress when they open the ballots on January 6 to consider whether to certify the vote."

51. It wasn't very well covered, but it did happen
It was really remarkable for electors to seize that moment to make an important statement.

No electors selected by fraud withdrew or changed a vote, but those who survived the attempted fraud did at least get a chance to make a statement.

Reformist movements against election fraud have happened before with good results, but never before have we seen such a wave of objections among electors to a NATIONWIDE fraud wave.

In many States, there will be changes by 2006. We really have to fight this out on a grass-roots level one swing state at a time.

50. OMG! Exactly what year is it?!?
In speaking at their Mass. press conference afterwards, one Elector, Tom Barbera spoke of personally having his life threatened during get-out-the-vote efforts. Another spoke of being targeted for intimidation such as being immediately accosted as an African American entering a Florida polling place by whites telling her "your kind is not wanted here", "we don’t want your kind voting here", "leave"; such threatening behavior meant as get-out-the-vote volunteers they frequently had to follow intimidated voters of color out of polling places and convince them to reenter and agree to accompany them through the voting process..

25. Great find! I wish
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 05:54 PM by hootinholler
I had known before I sent this:

Senator :

I am a constituant of yours.

I believe that the Moss V. Bush case before the Ohio Supreme Court has merit. I doubt that your staff will have trouble finding it, but I reviewed a scanned PDF file of the case here: http://freepress.org/images/departments/Election_Contes... Please inform me if this is not a true copy. I remind you that there is significant evidence yet to be presented in this case, and that discovery has not yet begun. The filing also mentions problems in 5 other States, but that court has no jurisdiction.

My familial history predates the founding of The United States. I likely have ancestors who participated in the Continential Congress (and later, others in the Wiskey Rebellion). The roots of patriotism run deep in me. I take this matter very seriously.

Although it appears to be a long held tradition in American Politics, I believe that the American people have evolved past the toleration of theft via electioneering (which is arguably an act of sedition). Just as they evolved past the holding of slaves, the denial of franchise to blacks and women, and et. cetera, we as a people can not continue tolerate this behavior from our "elected" officials.

I am writing to inform you that I am here watching your continued inaction closely. Your actions are being documented and that documentation will be available when you seek re-election.

Already documented is your inaction in 2000 regarding the Florida Presidential election theft. I feel this is partially excusable because the Supreme court did rule on a case concerning the matter, but, that ruling stopped a recount effort that later showed that Gore actually won Florida.

These are specific public actions by you that I would like to see in the historical record:

Publicly declare that that you will delay the acceptance of Electors from any State until court cases concerning those electors are resolved.

Support the efforts of U.S. Rep. Conyers to open Congressional investigations into the problems in the 2004 election.

Work towards the immediate appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate the election irregularities in all States named in Moss V. Bush, and, others as uncovered. Ensure that crimes uncovered in that investigation are persued fully.

I have the utmost confidence in your ability to persuade your colleagues that failure to act on these issues will undermine further the confidence of the American People in thier republic. I fear that the best case result of failure to act on these issues will be the genesis of a grass roots effort to reject all incumbents in future elections. The worst case scenario could include widescale riots or an armed defense of the Constitution.

I will be outside The Capitol on January 6 to demonstrate my support for your anticipated courageous actions in this matter.

Please keep me informed and let me know how I may assist you in upholding your oath of office.

-Hoot

...it could use some supporting stories attesting to this phenomena. It apparently happened spontaneously. There are claims here of reports on TV and in newspapers.

57. I believe that this story is true.
An action alert was sent out by www.Nov3.us that detailed the process of contacting and coordinating a protest vote.

I live in NC where the electors were cast for Bush but some of the electors Democratic slate did get together for a press release concerning the election irregularities.

I was working with a person in Boston who was coordinating the national effort to organize protest votes.

On 12/11 she wrote to me:
"We have electors willing to do something in Massachusetts and in
California, interest in Vermont, possibly Maine and folks are trying
to reach electors in Washington, Illinois, and New York - Grace"

On 12/12 she wrote:
"More tomorrow - your work is great- we have at least one elector
definitely on board in CA, Maine and Mass. We'll add Mary Roe. And
in addition, we will put out a national press release after the vote
at the end of Monday. hopefully Mary Roe will be a voice for that
release too- Thanks, Grace "

Today I asked her if this press release was part of her effort and she replied:
"this is the local action coalition that my group Truth in Elections
is part of forour work in Mass. More later - am sleeping alot to
try to catch up from two totally crazy weeks - thanks, Grace "

By the way, our press release in NC got bumped on the local news by this story (which wasn't that bad):
