Good news about the next big voting machine company!
Populex! The management team consists mostly of formaer oil execs and the advisory team is head by Frank Carlucci, former deputy director of the CIA, Secretary of Defense and National Security Advisor under President Reagan and last but not least, chair of the Carlyle Group for a decade!

1. This LATEST atrocity
must be stopped. Goes without saying. This is a license to steal using wireless technology.

Paper ballots are the only solution.

6. The nightmare will end when we end it...
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 07:02 PM by IndyOp
Today I was nauseated by my own hometown election official. He is a very honest, very good man but he just doesn't 'get it'. He thinks that our new touchscreen vote machines are foolproof because they print on a tape inside the machine each vote cast. He doesn't understand that there isn't a guarantee that the tape will show the vote as it was cast. We actually had a recount here -- and they recounted absentee ballots and early ballots and provisionals (we had very few). The vast majority of votes could not be recounted. And now we have a new Republican congressman -- *big* surprise!

Edited for clarity

:puke:

4. Someone tell George Soros I'll be happy
To put together such a company with his backing.

The System will be Linux or Unix based,
Demonstrably unhackable,
Produce a paper trail,

And I'm a registered Republican who'd be happy to be CEO.

9. Barcode ballots....

All this does is just make it harder to prove! I think how it works is like this; a paper ballot is printed with your choice on it and also has a barcode. You may either read who it recorded for you or maybe scan it yourself, I'm not sure. Either way, there is no guarantee that the machine the counts all the ballots will count them correctly. This is ridiculous!

12. Some of the arguments
Used by Diebold, ES&S ect. to why there is no paper trail, is for "privacy". To me doesn't excuse why there isn't a trail to follow. Wasn't privacy issues used to avoid voter harassments by the mob?

It's my feeling, if I have to sacrifice "freedoms" for Bush INC. in the name of Nazi invasions of other countries. Or in the manner of the patriot act, where they can just haul your ass of to some cell for 2 yrs without notifying anyone in your family for sneezing at a republican.

I think I can handle my something that identifies me, like a bar code on a paper trail ballot!? Or just a barcode that notches a official vote you can see in your hand. Place in a black box, in case a recount needs to be issued.

OK, so on the management team, we've got:
*David Patterson, who helped create the "Internet In The Sky", an 840 satellite system, which is a key part of the military's "star wars" technology.

*David Henderson, who has held an executive position at about a dozen or so Oil/Energy corporations, specializing in exploration.

-Head of Advisor Team
*Frank Carlucci, former Dep. Dir. of CIA and head of The Carlyle Group for a decade. Nuf said.

I realize these are just 3/6 of the senior execs, but what in the hell would all of a sudden bring these guys into the voting machine industry. I realize that was a rhetorical question.
