Why, why, WHY did I go into the Mart of Darkness at 3 AM?
Just got home from going food shopping with my mother at the local Wal Mart (OK, I know, that was dumb, but we're expecting bad weather here and she really wanted to go).

At the checkout; we were telling one of the cashiers (who we know is a Dem) that I am helping on the Ohio recount. Another cashier overhears and hotfoots it over. This second woman had the typical born again RW look right down to the Republican hair (female version) and cross necklace.

So cashier #2 wants to know about Ohio.

"Well, it probably won't change the election but the Green Party and those of us who are helping with this just want to make sure that we have honest, open elections.

"Oh I am SO glad we FINALLY had an honest election here this last time," she says (note we had one of the most filthy, mudslinging campaign seasons in my area's history, especially in some local races as well as Presidential race.)

"But we didn't," I said, "and Ohio had even more troubles. We are finding some weird stuff."

"Oh, well, in Ohio, I shouldn't wonder... it's ALL Democrats out there in Ohio and they do some AWFUL dirty stuff, those DEMOCRATS!!!"

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!

As I said why, why, WHY did I go into the Mart of Darkness at 3 AM????

Oy.
I need a hug.
Or a fifth of whiskey!

5. I know they should be boycotted, as I said I KNEW it was dumb...
If there was any Mom and Pop open all night for food shopping around here I would never go NEAR the place!

Sad thing is, there are some nice Dems that work all night there (for those crap wages which I guess are a wee bit better than no wages but not much) because they can't make ends meet with what little other hiring is going on around here.

The really sad ones are these Repubs working there and sometimes one or two OTHER jobs, NOT having enough to make ends meet after all that, and then STILL they are so highly supporting **. "Oh yes, we had a WONDERFUL election!"

Yeah, right.

6. Thanks so much... please everyone know that there are a TON of people...
working in Ohio... everyone I have met on this is a truly wonderful human being, and it really is an honor to be with them and to be a part of this effort!

If you aren't in or near Ohio, PLEASE help from wherever you are... spread the word about these voting issues and do what you can to help keep it in the public consciousness. (Even if it means talking to Republican cashiers in the middle of the night, lol!)

We CAN bring about change here, for the good. I truly believe that.

4. NEVER GIVE UP!! Chocolate helps too.
NEVER GIVE UP

No matter what is going on
Never give up
Develop the heart
Too much energy in your country
Is spent developing the mind
Instead of the heart
Be compassionate
Not just to your friends
But to everyone
Be compassionate
Work for peace
In your heart and in the world
Work for peace
And I say again
Never give up
No matter what is going on around you
Never give up

8. If they bring in WalMart, no reason to refuse CostCo.
We've already got Home Depot in Manhattan.

10. Buy her the book, "What's the Matter with Kansas?"
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 03:35 PM by RubyCat
Someone should buy that cashier the book "What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America" by Thomas Frank. They might even carry it at Wal-Mart.

It's about how misplaced class warfare is the reason why people like that cashier vote Republican against their best interests.
