"He ain't that old!" Someone once told me a saying she had on her wall (don't know where it comes from). It's not the length of your life, but the "width" of your life that matters. Congressman Conyers has a lot of width (and I don't mean that in a physical sense). Courageous indeed!

Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 05:05 PM by IndyOp
I got about this far in another DU thread:
------------------------------------------
1. Any one member of House and any one member of Senate can contest
2. This is followed by two hours of debate in the joint session
3. Vote on whether to toss Ohio (and other states in which fraud is implicated). How is this vote decided?
4. If state(s) are tossed and neither Bush nor Kerry wins the Electoral Vote then the House elects the President and the Senate the Vice-President.
5. For a Democrat to win the Vice-Presidency in the Senate, six Republican Senators would have to defect to vote for Kerry/Edwards (?).
6. For a Democrat to win the Presidency in the House would be virtually impossible because each state gets one vote and the states are 30R - 16D - 3ties - 1 Independent.

The other thread: <http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=175026&mesg_id=178121>
------------------------------------------
I don't think we have a snowball's chance in hell of getting past Step 3 without SCOTUS stepping in and re-appointing Bush. The purpose of all of this is so that people will know the extent of the fraud and/or complete investigations to reveal the extent of the fraud will be completed. Eventual goals: Convict people guilty of fraud in voting machine industry, get people to insist in future on paper ballots - hand counted, weaken Bush administration (for the love of God and the safety of children and elders and all living beings everywhere).

28. What little I can do as a citizen is and will remain focused on...
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 05:31 PM by understandinglife
....getting to step 2.

After that, we will have most every eligible voter in America and a vast number of citizens, world-wide, who will know that some of us actually give a shit about the civil rights legacy of our Constitution and our American franchise of democracy.

What happens, after that, when all those folk realize the systematic threat to both the Constitution and the franchise, well -- LET'S ALL FIND OUT BY MAKING IT TO # 2.

Here is something simple you can do to begin informing our fellow citizens. Just cut/paste/add a personal note and send the following email to Ms Winfrey: Oprah.com#oprah.com (replace # with @ )

Dear Ms Winfrey:

We have no election.

We have no way of knowing what happened to at least 30 % of the votes in the national election of 2004.

We have substantial evidence of civil rights and voters rights abuses.

We have substantial reasons to be concerned about the software used in the central tabulating computers in every county in each and every State.

We have experts and Congressional Representatives that know our Constitution and our franchise of democracy are being threatened, within.

Please invite Congressman Conyers, Congresswoman Waters, Mr Cliff Arnebeck, Mr Jon Bonifaz, Mr David Lytel, Mr Brad Friedman, Mr Mark Levine and Mr Clinton Curtis onto your show well before the next most important date in the history of the United States of America, 6 Jan 2005. Please invite them on the show tomorrow or Wed or Thurs or Fri of this week.

This is an urgent matter Ms Winfrey and you have the power to enable millions of Americans to be informed by the individuals I've listed -- truly courageous patriotic Americans.

Please do this for the sake of all our fellow citizens.

Ms Winfrey, we have no election and we must not allow that fact to go unchallenged on 6 Jan 2005.

Thank you.
+++++++++++++++++++

Forget about the fact that she had shrub on her show and hugged him.:puke:

She's got the bandwidth; try to get her to use it. And, the comments by Congressman Conyers as reported here from his discussion with Ed Schultz are more than enough reason for her to invite him and the others to join in a discussion about saving our franchise.

Thank you.

Peace.

33. As of today....
Kerry would have 271 electoral votes (272 minus the elector who voted for Edwards in MN). Bush would lose outright without Ohio. So, obviously the partisan crap will kick in but heres the rub - if any fraud is exposed in Ohio, and the Repukes refuse to throw out Ohio and thereby install Bush into office, this will definitely de-legitimize this president in a very public forum. They Repukes will basically be saying in a public forum under official historical record that they approve of election fraud and voter suppression. Granted, the MSM probably won't cover this in real-time unless there is "leaked" information that several senators will contest. They won't be able to hide from this....they're setting historical precedent!

I can't wait for Kerry's reaction to all of this. That is, unless Houston is nuked on 12/27 in which case all bets are off.

53. How would Kerry have 271 EVs
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 06:12 PM by Doctor O
Just because they vote not to accept the Ohio electors, this leaves it at 266 Bish 251 Kerry. The procedure is as listed above in Post 12. It goes to a vote in the House for President and the Senate for VP.

Kerry still loses.

they would have a choice - a vote for what is right and legal, or a vote based on fraud.

http://votecobb.org/news/

Meanwhile, the action shifts over to New Mexico today, where the state Supreme Court will be hearing a motion by the Green Party and others to start the recount. Citizen activists held a rally at the New Mexico state Capitol yesterday at noon in support of the recount. On December 16, the Cobb-LaMarche legal team filed a Verified Petition for Mandamus; Verified Petition for Superintending Control or Prohibition; and Request for Immediate Hearing with the New Mexico Supreme Court. The Petition and Supplement detail the reasons why the New Mexico recount should proceed.

51. MMoore F9/11 scene in Congress/Black Caucus, but NO US Senator
coming forward ... this may prove to become the single greatest service the film did for democracy, as it educated the general public about this disgraceful stain on our so-called democratic institutions. Now many many people are alerted to Jan 6th significance and a lot of attention will undoubtedly be focused on it this time around, with just a little help from MSM. How could they possibly ignore this 'unprecedented' historic event, when the cat's out of the bag with so many people?

PS - To MMoore: thanx for waking us up to what happened post-2000 elections in congressional joint session, *NOW* would you please wake up and smell the impeachment hearings for criminal election fraud in 2004?

6. From the interview:
He also said he and other would be back in Columbus, OH on the 3rd of January (another hearing?) I'm not sure. He agreed with Ed that what is happening in Washington State with the Governor's race WILL SET AN IMPORTANT PRECEDENT for counting votes in other states. Apparently, there are several hundred absentee ballots that were just set aside by the poll workers, who then forgot to count them. Will the Washington Supremem Court allow them to be counted in the recount? If they do, then other forgotten or misplaced or election poll worker mistakes will have to be rectified in a recount. And, yes, at the end Ed asked him if he thought one Senator would stand up on 1/6 and contest the electoral vote. He said "absolutely", they will, and he believes more than one will stand up and contest. Conyers sounded very optimistic about the whole vote fraud investigation in Ohio and seems to believe we will prevail!

13. "other ... mistakes will have to be rectified in a recount"
James Baker will have his work cut out for him.

Will he be able to "fix" this election like he said he did the last one?

"I FIXED FLORIDA"

Why is our President so concerned with the wishes of Mr. Baker's clientele? What does Bush owe Baker? Let me count the ways, beginning with the 2000 election.

Just last week Baker said, "I fixed the election in Florida for George Bush." That was the substance of his remarks last week to an audience of Russian big wigs as reported to me by my somewhat astonished colleagues at BBC television.

It was Baker, as consiglieri to the Bush family, who came up with the strategy of maneuvering the 2000 Florida vote count into a Supreme Court packed with politicos.

Baker's claim to have fixed the election was not a confession; it was a boast. He meant to dazzle current and potential clients about his Big In with the Big Boy in the White House. Baker's firm is already a top player in the Great Game of seizing Caspian Sea oil. (An executive of Exxon-Mobil, one of Baker Botts's clients, has been charged with evading taxes on bribes paid in Kazakhstan.)

I'd say McCain might be that one. He worked with Kerry on a lot of things and he likes him. I think he had a REAL hard time spitting words of support out for *! SNL had the funniest cartoon about McCain's reluctance to blatently campaign for *! * pissed him off good during the 2000 campaign when he questioned McCain's service to our nation during Vietnam. I remember watching that show! My mouth dropped down to the floor when * did that! I'm thinking, geeze this guy has SOME balls for saying that. After I recovered from the shock. 71. Prevail over the long run?
With Rebulicans controlling all three branches of Government in Washington, I don't think there's anyway this election could be called for us.

However, making a great show of principled dissent on Jan 6 could be the begining of a populist voting rights movement that might make some real progress by 2006....WORKING MAINLY AT THE STATE LEVEL. We should be able to swing some states by then.

Even if this election fraud doesn't unfold the way we would wish - never give up hope that the crimes of the Bush Administration will be revealed to the world.

says : Messages seeking comment were left Monday with Conyers' Washington office.

Did Conyers talk about this at all?

37. If one senator (or more)
stands up, would this be UNPRECEDENTED in our nation's history?
Has this EVER happened before?
We may be in uncharted waters.
Are we living in "interesting times" and witnessing one of the most important events in our country's history? I hope so.

50. I've sent an email to the show's producer requesting...
...either access to an archive or a transcript of Congressman Conyers' statements. You may also want to write and express interest in being able to access the audio file. Address is:
james#edschultzshow.com (replace the # with @)

Peace.

79. I spoke with a House Judiciary staffer today
I was going to post this as an independent thread, but this thread will probably get plenty of attention.

Some of you probably know that I posted last week, asking folks to knock off the barrage of e-mail to Conyers and the Dem members of the Judiciary. In that thread, we were approached by someone that claimed to be a Judiciary staff member, who agreed to call me the next day. Well, she called today, after doing a web search and figuring out who I am, and then finding my phone number.

The caller was a nice gal, they appreciate the efforts to turn the tide on the e-mail hoax, and had the following suggestions.

1 - keep the conversation going, try to get this into the public discourse. They fully believe it was stolen (again.)

2 - e-mail the Republicans

3 - apply pressure to the White House and demand "what is going to be done about this"

4 - contact your Senators and ask for support Jan 6.

As for #3, I have to admit my own sceptical attitude - like, as if they will do shit to reveal their own corruption. But that's what she asked us to do.

As for #4, she had no suggestions as to whom, and acknowledged that she could not go there.

America’s Calling: it’s time to take action!

We've all notified our Dem House Members and Senators. For us in the "Red" states...it's our Republican House and Senate Members we need to go after....No??

90. Conyers team should threaten

with split from Democratic Party... They have some good people in it, which have personality and charisma (together with Arnebeck). I think then the DNC would react very quickly...
