I could just hug you! I appreciate this so much. I'm in the middle of a time-consuming home project & I really needed help in collecting the appropriate thoughts to include in my letter. This helps a lot!

4. Great! Thanks.. If you see anything else that fits in a category, please
drop it right in. Hey, Just one suggestion. When you put the links, could you put a brief lable on them or copy and paste the subject line from the original post? This will save the readers the time of checking out each one. For example, the first one, you could just say "Solarbus" and if someone had already seen the solarbue posr, they could skip it, or if they haden't seen it, they could investigate further. Unfortunately, there is no way to distinguish one truncated DU post from another. Thanks again.. I am off to post the new Kickers thread!

Re Jan 6 ratification of electoral vote...write your Senators

We just need ONE. here is the text of my letter to MY Senators.

"On January 6, 2005, the House and Senate will once again meet to consider the electoral vote count. And once again, that vote count is likely to be challenged by a group of progressive House members, who will make the case that the mis allocation of voting machines (especially in Ohio), the abuse of provisional balloting in numerous states, and the refusal and/or inability to conduct the recount in an open and auditable manner in Ohio, in Florida, and in so many other key states, mean that the certified electors should not be seated.

In Michael Moore's movie we were subjected to the spectacle of representative, after representative coming to the podium, begging, BEGGING for just one Senator to make an open and honest recount possible. The silence that reverberated around those once hallowed halls was deafening.

As my Senator, I trust you won't let that happen again."

14. My letter & I urge everyone to call, as well.
Dear Senator _____________,

We have no election.

Anyone willing to spend five minutes with the facts of the national election process of 2004 will recognize a scandalous display of disenfranchisement and violations of civil and voter rights.

We have no election.

Every member of the 109th Congress, on 6 Jan 2005, should stand and challenge the national election of 2004.

Halt, investigate and re-vote are the only responsible actions. We the people will accept nothing less.

Your choice, Senator __________ -- will you do your duty to the Constitution and the people or will you support an illegal, invalid election?

We have no election.

We will be watching what you do on and before 6 Jan 2005.

You will etch your place in history on that day: either as a patriot and defender of our American franchise of Democracy, or as a supporter of the disenfranchisement of our fellow citizens at a time when the Nation is at war.

Your choice.

Thank you.

xxxxxx

-snip-

I do not concede my vote. The 2004 election is not over. Nationwide
abusive tactics of voter suppression, voter intimidation and vote
manipulation have stained our democracy by victimizing poor, elderly,
disabled and minority voters on November 2, 2004.

21. Another sample letter
Not that there's anything wrong with the outrage expressed on the other letters here, but when I finally sat down to write my senators, my approach came out more low key. Please feel free to borrow any language that you like for your letter. Mine went out to Senators Corzine and Lautenberg.

Dear Senator Corzine:

With great respect for your work as my Senator, I am writing to urge you to join with a number of Representatives on January 6 in contesting the Electoral College results in Ohio. Ideally, I hope to see a solid bloc of Democrat and Republican Senators standing together on this issue, and I hope that you will be one of them. If this does not happen, I am confident that you will have the courage to stand with a smaller number, or even to stand alone for the truth.

Please do NOT vote to certify the results of the Electoral College while important investigations into allegations of widespread voter suppression and electronic vote tampering in Ohio are still underway. These allegations have called the fairness of voting results into question in states and races across the country, casting an unacceptable fog of uncertainty over what should be a transparent system. I urge you to study the investigations made to date by Representative John Conyers and others, and to advocate for a complete investigation of issues of voter suppression and electronic vote tampering in the November election.

Regardless of the outcome of the investigations, I think it’s very clear that the current system is insecure and open to abuse. The American people deserve a more transparent, secure, fair, and auditable voting system, and I hope that you will do everything in your power to legislate for major reforms in this area.

Sincerely,

DAM
(Destroy_All_Monsters)
