RAW STORY responds to Olbermann reporting
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 12:56 PM by rawstory
Glad to see Olbermann looking at the story, but wish he'd actually do reporting. Thought this merited it's own thread.

Olbermann response to programmer’s affidavit fails to ask tough questions, note Feeney ties

This from Keith Olbermann, the lone ‘reporter’ on the voting irregularity beat. Olbermann gets responses from Feeney, who seems to laugh at Curtis’ claims and gently threaten NBC with legal action.

Olbermann, however, gets some facts wrong – that Curtis was a ‘disgruntled’ employee is certainly in the eye of the beholder; on his departure, he was thrown a party and the company, Yang Enterprises, is said to have asked him to stay on. It’s certainly possible, however, that Curtis became a disgruntled employee long after he left.

Olbermann fails to note that Yang Enterprises has already lied about employing an illegal alien who later tried to export sensitive missile technology to China. He’s also failed to ask the FBI about an alleged investigation into Yang’s dealings about knowingly employing an illegal alien and falsifying his employment status to get him security clearances at NASA.

Also curious is that Olbermann takes Yang’s lawyer at his word – who was previously Rep. Feeney’s law partner and gave $1,500 to Feeney’s 2002 congressional campaign.

Meanwhile, he failed to interview Curtis entirely.

RAW STORY does not claim–nor has it ever claimed–that there is evidence to show that Curtis’ program was ever used or even existed. It has, however, confirmed numerous elements of Curtis’ affidavit.

1. Hey, Olbermann is doing a good job and getting all kinds of sh-- for it
I think we need to start supporting Olbermann and not attck him. He is doing more than most to show up the inaccuracies and irregularities in our current voting process

2. I am getting a little tired of people attacking the only person
reporting on this issue in the MSM. He's got to be very, very careful here. We know what they did to Dan Rather and we don't want the same thing happening to KO. . . or worse.

6. Not an attack, just hopefully a lead on further investigation
Hear what you're saying, but that doesn't give him an excuse to stop doing serious investigative journalism, rather than parroting Feeney-Yang's attorneys -- just my opinion.

4. Raw story has its place but it doesn't have the
credibility of Olberman. The majority of Americans don't even know it exists and it hasn't even really provided competition for Drudge.

7. Raw Story has credibility, just not the exposure
You are right that it does not have the attention and notariety of a TV show, but they have broken and investigated a lot of stories that MSM, including Olberman do not cover.

I don't think you can call Olberman's show "investigative journalism", as you can Raw Story.

10.  I should have said 'credibility with the American public"
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 01:00 PM by saracat
because they have so little exposure. My apologies to Rawstory. I didn't mean they have NO credibility. But I disagree about Keith. I think he is developing into a fine investigative journalist and I thinkhis take on this is very balanmced. We really do need to seperate the wheat from the chaff and some of these people are loonies. We need to promote the valid one.And he seems to be double checking. For MSM, that is impressive. Hell for MSM .it is impressive he does the story at all!

13. Olberman is NOT an investigative journalist. He's a former Sports
reporter whose "glib" style has caught an audience. I have no doubt he's sincere in wanting to talk about hypocracy...but to call him an "investigative" journalist is just plain wrong. He can have his staff call around and ask a few questions but he doesn't go out and interview folks on his own other than a quick phone call here and there, and it isn't his job to "investigate" anything. He has an entertainment show on MSNBC/GE. He's no more an investigator than Jon Stewart.

I thank him for his attention to this story...but to take what he says as anything more, is foolish for us to do.

17. Making phone calls and checking is investigating.
And I think Olberman is taking a lot of flak for having been a sports reporter. People have to start somwhere. He is obviously a good writer and there appears to be much more to him than just an "entertainment reporter". I suggest you read some of his earlier stuff regarding his termination from Fox. And for the record, I hate sports! LOL!

14. Yep, Raw Story did a good job in following up on Kieth's reporting.
I appreciate Keith no end. But I appreciate Raw Story not dropping the ball, leaving KO's reporting be the last word, if his is incomplete.

5. Thank you Raw Story for investigating this!
It is nice to know that somebody is taking the time to pursue this story! I posted some of your articles in LBN, but the mods said they were not from a reliable source! What is up with that?!!

9. We must remember that Olbermann is more of a personality than a journalist
Sure, he's cute, entertaining, and because he's on a major network, has our undying admiration for talking about election fraud.

But I was not at all satisfied with his uncritical quoting of Feeney, the Yang attorney, and the situation in Hocking County. I have come to expect more of him, but then I remember he is more of an entertainer, news personality than a serious journalist. The NBC investigative team told him to drop it, and that's what he did.

12. Hopefully they will pass their questions/contradictions
on to Olbermann in an open manner. He has always been receptive to following up as more info is brought to his attention. He has definitely earned a permanent place of respect with me.

15. Not really an attack, but a question I have for Keith >>
And his "crack" staff.

Subject: Wheat or Chaff?

Purportedly from the Eaton/Hocking affadivit:

>> He advised Lisa and I on how to post a "cheat sheet" on the wall so that only the board members and staff would know about it and and what the codes meant so the count would come out perfect and we wouldn't have to do a full hand recount of the county. He left about 5:00 PM.<<

Not that we're not pleased to hear about prosecutors writing things off, and comedies of errors, and that a "recreation" by a suspected tamperer is accepted as good enough by a "patrolman." (I'm reminded of Det. Tom Lange wandering aroud the Simpson estate with Reeboks on his clipboard, wanting us to seriously believe he'd accepted the word of a murder suspect about which shoes he wore to the crime.)

But if you're there to declare to the world there's no there there, there ought to be something there about the there that's there.

So there.

Elephant. Living Room. Glasses?
