Do I see the boat turning around?
Pleeeze, John, turn the boat around. I'm drowning stuck in BushWorld.

So, is it The Perfect Storm yet? Do I sense my prediction of a Grand Plan coming true? Are all the pieces coming together? Not to make it all about me, but I gotta say, if it happens, drinks are on me. Everyone is invited to my house -- the weather's beautiful! Bring your own AeroBeds.

How great of a Christmas would I have; and I'm Jewish!

No reponses required, I'm just really, really happy right now. And I love each of you -- even the Freepers. That's how happy and hopeful I feel. :)

Where's that I BELIEVE thread? Cause damn it, I do, I do, I do believe. Do you?

36. That's f'n funny!
BTW, is that a Prisoner reference in your Avatar, Number 6?

Could I be more of a cheesy British spy show fan? I don't think so... It was either Patsy Stone or Mrs. Emma Peel. I went with Patsy; although my love for Emma approaches the unholy. :)

Be seeing you.

6. Patsy
Your posts have been an inspiration and have given many hope. I do believe in your theory of the perfect storm, and I do believe in John Kerry. He will pull us out of this water. I hoping sooner rather than later. For me, I believe that I know enough about John Kerry to know he would never leave a single man behind, let alone 60 million.

I BELIEVE!!!

No Retreat No Surrender

We will always have your back...

17. For you... Pardon all if there is some out of date info
There could be no Sore Loserman this time. The Dems know they were “out-lawyered” in 2000. No one expected that fight to reach all the way up to the Supreme Court (remember, btw, who ran there first) and most certainly no one expected the SCOTUS to tell Florida to stop counting. This time, to avoid that soap opera and the anointing of another President, both sides needed a plan.

So, what if the Glibs, the DNC, Kerry/Edwards, the Congressional Black Caucus, Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore, Ralph Nader, the Alliance for Democracy, Al Sharpton and all of the other Democratic Presidential candidates, are all working together towards a bigger, badder goal? Would I like to see Kerry in the White House? You bet! Maybe, though, this isn’t about that… Let’s not forget who we’re dealing here: on both sides.

John Kerry: Prosecutor, BCCI and Iran-Contra investigator, Senator, soldier. Kerry took on not only the Bush clan and its friends, but also the CIA, and members of Congress on both sides of the aisle. His motivations (and of course, it is completely possible I’m just talking out of my butt here) may not be that complicated. The possibility of a Grand Plan is the kind of “magic bullet theory” I can spend a good two or three days mulling over.

You send the third parties out to check the ballots, file the recount lawsuits, and take the heat. You only intimate yourself into the process when it is absolutely necessary -- maybe like when a lone County decides it has better things to do with its time and money than recount the ballots. How about when (since there’s a recount going on anyway) you get your lawyers in there to make sure that they look at your votes also. To paraphrase a statement from the campaign: Who amongst us doesn’t think Kerry’s lawyers have been in Ohio all this time?

What else would you do if you were “flying under radar?” Would you send out that weird “man-in-exile” video that was so message-laden I felt I should have played it backwards to get all of them? Would you send your team out and ask them to all say the same exact thing, “We are not contesting the outcome of this election?” “We don’t think this will change the outcome.”

Jesse Jackson, so conspicuous in his absence, that it alone seems like a “tell,” is scheduled to come out first. Finally, the DNC mentions voting irregularities and disenfranchisement. What do you do, if you’re looking to build a case? Do you gather evidence (perhaps your brother, Cam Kerry, the lawyer, could help?), and testimony and affidavits? Would you wait until it is past the time when it looks like you’re a sore loser, and then say you’re just doing it for the people? That’s not a lie -- we did ask him to fight for our votes in e-mails and faxes and phone calls, after all. First rule of lawyering: Never ask a question that you don’t know the answer to.

Okay, so, now you’re Karl Rove (Sorry! Go with it for a second). Would you waste your time with the small fish? Would you bring out the Master Plan for World Domination and the Great American Spin Machine when your opponents are so much weaker? No, you wouldn’t. Think Sun Tzu.

But what if you stalled, blocked, and obfuscated until the only remaining recourse was for your true opponent to come out from his hiding place? Wouldn’t you want that? You bet you would. You would make sure your machinations were ready, that your spinners were warming up in the wings. All of the forced outrage about the colossal waste of time and money that “counting the votes” entails; the righteous indignation (I can still hear James Baker III: “All the votes have been counted and counted again” and of course, they hadn’t been) and the conspiracy theorists who belong in their padded cells, who must be behind the whole thing. It’s all just waiting for Kerry to jump in the fray. No warrior would walk lightly into that trap.

So, that’s where I am. I see every move Kerry makes as calculated. I do not believe for a second that Al Sharpton suddenly forgot about disenfranchising the African-American voter, yet, until very recently, he’s been as silent as the grave. The silence, in fact, has been deafening all around -- Left and Right. I do not believe Kerry’s eleven-point request was an afterthought, I think it’s the next step. In an interesting, “Damn! That’s gonna keep me up all night!” moment: that was the title of that underground Kerry video.

The last piece of this is this puzzle is this alleged “media blackout.” Originally, since it was Bev Harris who said it, I didn’t believe it. I don’t think we live in a police state yet, so the whole “blackout” seemed slightly over the top -- but not entirely impossible. Not until Randi Rhodes mentioned the other day that she felt pressured not to talk about the situation did I start thinking about this again. No one at Air America would tell her to shut up about this. They knew she had an interest in making sure the election was fair. She wouldn’t have renewed her contract if there were an issue with her position on this. Therefore, is it possible that the “blackout” came not from the media itself, but from the top of the DNC, possibly even the Kerry/Edwards campaign? Hmmm?

I wanted to be sure you know my thoughts on your excellent hypothesis...
....and, as you know from some of our exchanges and other items posted here and at dKos by me, I've taken the stance that what is unfolding in the current national election process is way beyond 'Kerry winning; Bush winning.'

Several weeks ago it was obvious to me and others that 'we the people' have lost if we allow the current national election to stand.

Our 'more perfect union' and the 200+ years of extraordinary efforts to expand the scope of ideals embodied in the original Constitution, will be trashed if we allow this election to stand.

I also think it unlikely that Senator Kerry, Edwards and their colleagues simply strolled into the current election process without a comprehensive plan and preparations to deal with what they had many reasons to suspect.

And, then we have the timing of Moss v Bush. If one needed a 'clue' to the existence of a 'plan,' I think waiting until mid-morning EST on the 13th of December, 2004, to file that suit signaled a very clear 'clue.' Specifically, they are and have been focused on 6 Jan 2005. I think both our fellow citizens and humanity throughout the world are about to participate in a real-time, reality-based 'civics class' -- an unprecedented attempt to rescue a franchise of democracy from collapse.

That 'civics class' will begin in the US Senate, move to the House of Representatives (the house of the people) and will conclude with exactly the outcome that is at the core of why I consider your hypothesis probable -- Senator Kerry knows he would never want to be "President" based on an election that defrauded, that systematically disenfranchised any of our fellow citizens.

The findings about this election, already available to everyone and so eloquently described by shanikka in her "Folks Don't Get It" diary, can have only one logical, ethical outcome -- re-vote; and, do it with a mechanism that is equitable and that ensures each voter knows their vote is counted as they intended.

What I hope happens tomorrow is that Senator Kerry makes it clear that he has not just 'our back' but that he has 'the back of our American franchise of Democracy' and he is not going to allow it to be destroyed.

Peace. And, thank you for being such a fine American patriot.

You and I have been kindred spirits aroung the blogosphere. I too believe that no matter what else happens, we can never afford to lose the ability to count every vote, and make sure everyone's vote is counted.

Even today, when I was reading about the Washington State SC's decision, I felt that those 570+ votes had to be counted -- even if Gregoire loses.

As Shalom and I have been musing: America is advanced citizenship -- you gotta want it.

I'm going to post Aaron Sorkin's brilliant final soliliquy (sp?) from The American President on this thread because sometimes we lose sight of so many things in our desire to get our way and strive for our hopes and dreams -- plus he always makes me feel so American.

He reminds us that character matters and citizenship matters. You gently remind us and everyone you write to that voting and the franchise matters. That is what makes us the greatest country in the world (go ahead and laugh, but it's true).

Peace to you and yours and thank you, as always, for your kind words and good heart.

43. Thank you Patsy. And, yes, in a true democracy the only...
..."winners" are the People.

The government, in a democracy, serves the people -- even the ones who voted for the opposition.

A majority, in a democracy, does not mean trampling the minority.

As long as the majority of folk, irrespective of whether their candidate "won" realize the above, democracy flourishes.

When it is forgotten, even briefly, tyrants bring darkness and death. Any question about it -- Bush is unconstitutionally crowned in 2001; thousands of Americans, Iraqis and others are dying totally unjustified deaths.

We must prevail between now and 6 Jan 2005; we must save the American franchise of democracy.

Peace. Some day we will meet and it will be a very good day.

73. Here's yet a nother hypothesis...
MSM was ALL over that particular "civics lesson" just prior to the election! I remember saying to myself, geeze these guy's are already acting as if the country will NOT choose the next president. Why are they rambling on about all these "scenarios?" One of the scenarios was the Bush pres. and Edwards vice pres. one and the Kerry pres. Cheney vice pres. scenario. Russert went over this about 50 times in the days prior to the election. :tinfoilhat: theories abound right now, as always. And the media did this same sort of stuff during the last presidential election. I wonder to myself often, if this race wasn't designed to do exactly what it seems to be doing, SHOW THIS NATION IT NO LONGER HAS A CONSTITUTIONALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT! 1 in 5 Americans already BELEIVE this as FACT! That is truly remarkable, given the fact we are the busiest nation in the world and most of us don't have time to have a sit down meal once a day anymore! People must be picking up this message somewhere. Is it possible the constant shift in the media position along with all the mysterious deaths surrounding the people currently involved in this civics lesson has the power to creat a crack in the brainwashing methods we have been experiencing since 911? I haven't seen a single alert message since OBL released his "message" just prior to the election, have you? Is this a media blackout as well?

34. This, IMO, is what we're really fighting for: (Thanks, Shalom!)
A Press Conference of President Andrew Shepherd
written by Aaron Sorkin

For the last couple of months, Senator Rumson has suggested that being President of this country was, to a certain extent, about character. Although I've not been willing to engage in his attacks on me, I've been here for three years and three days, and I can tell you without hesitation that being President of this country is entirely about character.

For the record: yes, I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU, but the more important question is, "Why aren't you, Bob?" Now this is an organization whose sole purpose is to defend the Bill of Rights, so it naturally begs the question: why would a senator, his party's most powerful spokesman and a candidate for President, choose to reject upholding the Constitution? Now if you can answer that question, folks, then you're smarter than I am, because I didn't understand it until a few hours ago.

America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center-stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the land of the free.

I've known Bob Rumson for years, and I'd been operating under the assumption that the reason Bob devotes so much time and energy shouting at the rain was that he simply didn't get it. Well, I was wrong, Bob's problem isn't that he doesn't get it; Bob's problem is that he can't sell it. We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things, and two things only: making you afraid of it, and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections.

You gather a group, of middle-age, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family, and American values, and character, and then you wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them that she's to blame for their lot in life, and then you go on television, and you call her a whore.

Sydney Ellen Wade has done nothing to you, Bob. She has done nothing but put herself through school, represent the interests of public school teachers, and lobby for the safety of our natural resources. You want a character debate, Bob? You better stick with me, 'cause Sydney Ellen Wade is way out of your league.

I've loved two women in my life. I lost one to cancer, and I lost the other 'cause I was so busy keeping my job, that I forgot to do my job. Well, that ends right now. Tomorrow morning, the White House is sending a bill to Congress for its consideration. It's White House Resolution 455, an energy bill requiring a twenty percent reduction of the emission of fossil fuels over the next ten years. It is, by far, the most aggressive stride ever taken in the fight to reverse the effects of global warming. The other piece of legislation is the crime bill. As of today, it no longer exists--I'm throwing it out. I'm throwing it out and writing a law that makes sense. You cannot address crime prevention without getting rid of assault weapons and handguns. I consider them a threat to national security, and I will go door to door if I have to--but I'm gonna convince Americans that I'm right, and I'm gonna get the guns.

We've got serious problems--and we need serious people. And if you want to talk about character, Bob, you better come at me with more than a burning flag and a membership card. If you want to talk about character and American values, fine. Just tell me where and when, and I'll show up. This is a time for serious people, Bob, and your fifteen minutes are up. My name is Andrew Shepherd and I am the President.

He's a big ol' Blue softie -- even though he says he'd rather watch a Steven Seagal movie. :)

53. OK, everyone, let's do this here, instead of me creating...
...a new 'post.'

I think this is the ideal thread in which to insert something Brad Friedman posted earlier this evening on BradBlog. For those who want to spread it, please do so. Given that I'm in constant correspondence with Brad, I'm reluctant to post it beyond here.

Main reason is that given Brad's detailed investigative work on Clinton Curtis, these comments might appear to transform his 'neutral' due diligence into one of someone with an agenda. That is not the case. I think Brad cares deeply about our American franchise of democracy and is doing everything possible to bring facts forward in as rigorously researched manner as possible.

With those disclaimers here is a very strong set of statements from Brad:

"Several efforts are underway, both behind the scenes and out in public, to begin to get at least one U.S. Senator to join with several U.S. Congressmen to file an objection to the Electoral Results in Congress on Jan 6th. Such an action would then throw the entire election back into both the House and Senate, leading to a potential Constitutional Crisis in this country unlike anything we've seen for quite a while.

At this time, The BRAD BLOG officially endorses such an action in the U.S. Congress, based on so many of the reports we have now seen that no longer give us confidence in our electoral system. If such an action is necessary to bring attention to this growing confidence crisis, then we heartily endorse it and will work to help ensure that at least one Senator comes on board this time around. One is all it will take.

The Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) have set up an easy online form, to help convince a few key senators. Click here to take action.

As well, we have been receiving more and more comments and email in regard to people hitting the streets to reclaim their democracy based on everything we have seen, reported on, and helped to ferret out since November 2nd.

To that end, it is now the official BRAD BLOG position that people should indeed begin "hitting the streets" in this regard.

We have held our tongue on this issue for some time in the hopes that the media would be more responsible in doing their job to investigate and report on so much of what has been going on. It was our hope that perhaps they could demonstrate that our concerns were for naught, and perhaps have the the concerns of so many who are paying attention and don't like what we've been seeing be assuaged by common-sense, investigative journalism that assuaged such concerns."

Link:

http://www.bradblog.com/archives/00001072.htm

So, read it; bask in the warmth of statements from a true, fellow patriot; and, spread the word to the extent you are each comfortable.

Peace.

The boat was always facing in this direction. The tide was against us, is all. Fight the tide, waste your fuel and exhaust your crew, only to end up right where you started and dead in the water.

My, how the tide has turned.

Bring on Triad.

I believe.

The Buddhists teach that suffering, death, loss, transition should be looked upon as a catalyst for spiritual transformation and as a challenge. My mind can wrap around that concept, but it doesn't lift that feeling of devastation, demoralization, pain from realizing our country and its ideals are becoming incereasingly incompatible with anything I believe in..

85. I would have thought the best strategy
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 06:37 PM by PATRICK
would have been to confront the fraud well before the election by exposing the BBV Swiss cheese security, demanding public accounting and witnesses (lawyers and computer wizards) at all tabulation centers. Demanded more access at all under-machined precincts with a full recognition of provisional ballots. All of this BEFORE the election, instead of having lawyers on standby to man the phones to hear horror stories way too late and then take those problems, Gore redux against the slough of courts and
official stonewalls.

Would it have been easy and effective. Not 100%, but the lines would have been engaged, some of the fraud beat down, many people forced to be exposed, the media set off its game.

Just as Kerry went easy of the Iraq question, did not insult little Nero, and went straight up at the game in the teeth of disastrously slanted media he seemed to discount the chutzpah of the monsters in simply stealing whatever they wanted anyway they wished with total free hand, impunity and security behind the walls of the closed game.

THAT is what we see. IF another huge method was chosen, a secret method that the BFEE could ferret out through spying, it certainly is beyond my imagination to discern its effective form.

So people go from the gamut of Kerry deliberately tossing the election to the "secret plan" extreme. The first is faintly ludicrous, but the second is an invisible hope. In between is what you see, a despairing frontal assault over a swamp against a fortified jeering foe. The votes, democracy, ceded as victims before the polls even opened. SOMETIMES such crude mistakes don't stop victory, but with votes deleted at a keystroke? No effort or endeavor could ever overcome such a strategy left to its own devices.

Still, I hope. And still, if not, the fight for the REAL vote continues, with or without any champion or general. Even were it as bad as the suicide battalions of the Russian in WWI, without officers or hope. Truth will be served. It will choke the tyrant.

87. Not sure what you're saying.
But I think you're trying to make the point that nothing was done by the JK/JE campaign prior to the election to prevent this from happening. How would you have had them do that without the meeedjia calling him names?

Speaking only from FL: Wexler did try for paper trails and was stalled until it was too late. He started the process two years ago and it reached the FL SC two weeks before early voting started. Since the same legislation passed in Nevada, I'm going with Jeb! (you have to use the exclamation point down here -- it's legally required) having something to do with it.

Congress still has legislation in front of it, introduced by Russ Holt, to demand paper trails, Bob Ney (of OH) stalled it. Everyone knew Black Boxes were crap. If nothing else people tried to change that.

Also, why, if no one thought that something could go wrong did I hear about the 612 ways the EC could work out, including a Bush/Edwards or Kerry/Cheney scenario? People were looking out for this. The media, btw, all thought Kerry would win on election night.

When Kerry conceded, the media went on vacation. Why do you think he conceded? If he hadn't there would still be stories about Sore Loserman. The media is nothing if not a 24 hour echo chamber. Also, to believe that we have a free press in this country is to believe that people don't mind losing their jobs and don't mind being told that they will never eat lunch in this town again. Six corporations now own all of the media. Six. That's way too few in my opinion.

If you want to know something, the gloves are off in the media outlets who came out strongly against *. How many positive stories have run since Nov. 3? Not too many.

We, We the People, are the ones that have to fight. It is our votes that we are trying to save. There was never a time I did not believe that, regardless of who would be victorious, all votes must be counted. I believed that yesterday in Washington State, and I believe that today.

Also, you are wrong if you think Kerry didn't know what he was up against. Don't you remember that "accidentally" caught on tape moment where he said that this was the biggest bunch of crooks and liars? So, whaddya think? He just forgot? Puh-leeze. What would you have had him do? Stand on the stage and scream: I didn't lose Ohio, Florida, New Mexico and Iowa! It was stolen!? Most repsctfully, are you high? Watergate took years. This may not be over anytime soon, but I do believe there is a plan.

If you don't think something fishy is going on with all of the silence, prey tell me: Where the hell is Al Sharpton???

I repect your opinion, and certainly everyone has the right to their own, I just happen to disagree.

98. I have a long-ass theory about that too...
But here's the Cliff's Notes version
(I'd do it in 30 seconds performed by Bunnies, but I don't have the time to animate it) :)

The meeedjia had absolutely NO reason to report that Ukraine story. It was Thanksgiving weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Alabama would have been none the wiser if they didn't know about two guys halfway across the world who's names they can't pronounce. So, why did they bother? TFH on, please...

What if it was a little hint to JK (remember, this was then, when they we're thinking of joining the Glibs suit):

Psst, hey John, we don't like him either. We want our follow-up questions back. See, we're reporting this so, if you want to get into the game here, we won't crucify you.

Maybe, maybe not. But these days, in this crazy Orwellian, up is down, Through the Looking Glass world, ANYTHING is possible. Just my .02. :)

101. MONDAY! MONDAY! MONDAY!
at US 30 drag strip...

I'm looking forward to Monday and I'm not sure why.

And I also believe. I believe and I'm not sure why.

So, who says only the right-wing gets to be faith-based?

104. It was a raceway in the Midwest
that had TEEVEE commercials in which an announcer yelled "SUNDAY!SUNDAY! SUNDAY! at US 30 drag strip...", then proceeded to announce the line-up of racers and their cars.

I have no idea why I made this somewhat obscure, and not particularly relevant reference. The hold media has on me? I'm nuts?

At any rate, this was a terrific post Patsy Stone, and I thank you for putting in print what many of us are feeling about upcoming events.

105. Strateejerie?
One thing that occurs to me about confronting our messed up election process is the fact that it all happens at the county and precinct level and that if you are really going to beat voter fraud you have to beat it at that level, which is a long complex and agonizing process. In 2000 the old folks on the Supreme Court effectively put a stop to that process before it even began.

I'm hoping that our democracy still works, even though it is overloaded with repuglicans in every branch, but there is still the underlying system that works, and maybe a whole bunch of really smart lawyers who know their shit can make it do it's job.

I think a couple of senators standing up and contesting the election and bring the whole thing to a screeching halt would be an incredible test that I would love to see this country pass. Let's show 'em what we got!!!

There's a dance in the old dame yet.

106. Here's hoping the old girl can dance.
It is a very messed up system. The fact that a SoS can be involved with a campaign (any campaign) in any way is f'd up. Local areas still need to administer the voting and equipment, but there should certainly be a Federal Law mandating rules, equipment security and ethical behavior standards.

Democracy is teetering. Make no mistake about that. Fascism (always feel a little nuts when I use that word in this day and age -- but if the shoe fits) is right outside the door. I think it would look something like what's happening today.

Wait for the military show of might on 1/20. Pennsylvania Avenue is going to look like downtown Moscow or Beijing. I always imagine what the intelligent Germans and Italians felt like before the beginnings of their own personal Hell. Maybe just like us?

If this does nothing else, Senators and Reps standing up will be historic and beautful. It will bring tears to my eyes just as it did when they didn't in 2000. I know why they didn't, but that didn't make it any easier. It will also force the Repugs to once again shove the boyking into the WH against the will of half of the country.

People 1 - Mandate (cough)0

Also, while the fraud may have occured at the local level with regards to supression and disenfranchisement, wide-scale electronic fraud only needed one person, a modem, and a spreadsheet and it could have happened from Guam. THAT is the part that keeps me up at night.

Oy.
