Columbus, Ohio - Voter Suppression Videos
Blackwell, you have a black heart.

Ohio voter suppression.

The video footage provides a first hand glimpse of what transpired in Franklin County on Election Day, only in heavily leaning Democratic precincts, including unexplained voting machine shortages, organized campaigns directing voters to the wrong polling places, malfunctioning voter tabulation equipment, election worker confusion and incompetence, and a host of other problems. However, as detailed in an official affidavit by Richard Hayes Phillips, a geomorphology Ph.D. from University of Oregon, the extent of voter disenfranchisement was systematic and widespread in African American precincts throughout the state. Dr. Phillips sworn testimony read:

"For the second Presidential election in a row African American voters have been subjugated to second class citizens through systematic efforts by Republicans to suppress, intimidate, and disenfranchise our vote," said Rev. Bill Moss, the original Plaintiff in Ohio, and founder of the Center for Freedom and Justice. "Whether its Katherine Harris or Kenneth Blackwell, the purpose is the same: do everything in their power to ensure George W. Bush becomes President. If those in power are willing and able to thwart democracy and abuse the civil rights of American voters, right in the face of the press and public, what won’t they do? I am contesting this election because tyranny, particularly in the guise of democracy, is our civic duty to fight."

3. What will be done with this?
Has it been sent to KO and other media? Will it serve as evidence for the lawsuit in Ohio if it's heard?

7. Yes
The filmmaker is listed in the lawsuit. Her footage is the evidence she provides.

6. Nothing more dangerous than an angry Democrat.

The Republicans like us passive. When we get angry we become "wild-eyed and crazy." They think we'll be afraid of being labelled. We'll stay quiet so noone calls us names.

I'm angry.

Call me what you want.

It won't stop me.

There's more of us everyday. No MS coverage, and yet our numbers swell.

Be afraid conservatives, be very afraid.

60% think Iraq's a mistake, Republicans calling for Rumsfeld's head. Germany filing War Crimes charges. Can you feel it?

Your time is nearing it's end.

8. Words from the filmmaker......
Re-posted from Daily Kos - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/23/123117/64

Many of you saw the footage of voter suppression in Ohio when it was posted last night. If you missed it, here's the diary - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/22/143921/53

I just got off the phone with the filmmaker (she's an old friend). She put the whole thing together and wants it spread as FAR as possible as FAST as possible.

Diaries :: Jeff Seemann For Congress's diary ::

She has copies of MUCH better quality available and she wants it shown far and wide. So if you are interested (and you'd better be, dammit), PLEASE e-mail her right away at linda_byrket at yahoo.com - she will get you a 50MB .move file.

Her site, which hosted the original copy of the higher-quality film, is down right now. When it comes back up (shortly), she'll be calling me, and I will copy the file and mirror it on my site - http://www.jeff04.com . I would urge as many of you to do the same (you will be free to copy it from my site.

Furthermore, there will be an event on January 3rd in Columbus, Ohio. I do not know the details of this event, but Linda assures me it will be HUGE. It will be just days before Congress counts the Electoral Votes, and will be our last chance to protest this election. Details will be posted on the event when I get them.

I've watched with great interest throughout the Ohio wars and have stayed out of most of the discussions. But this one I want to interject myself into - video footage cannot be denied. So PLEASE recommend this diary and get her film distributed as much as you can.

I will update the diary to alert people when the high-quality footage is ready for you to copy.

In Solidarity,
Jeff Seemann

Shouldn't ALL democrats be up in arms about this?

It's obscene that it happened and it's obscene how little attention it's received.

19. FOR SHAME !! It is one thing to hear about
voter suppression, lack of machines, disinformation from election workers and to empathize with the victims on an intellectual level - but it is quite another thing to see this crap unfolding and to share the outrage on a gut level after viewing this powerful video!

It's like I knew it, and I was already outraged, but now I REALLY get it, and my outrage went up by a factor of 10.

I agree with the poster upthread - every single Congressperson should have to view this video and others like it. This should be shown everywhere until * is out of office! Perhaps Jesse Jackson will have this video distributed to churches...

Apparently we're going to have to march on Selma again, only this time it's Columbus. We should be in the streets. This is outright, insidious discrimination.

24. I would LOVE to lock
those "350" protesters from WA state, who are so adamant in their cries of vote fraud against Rossi, into a room and make them watch these videos.

Thanks so much for the link. It broke my heart to watch. What a travesty that this isn't being played over and over again by msm.

Absolutely disgusting, all of it.

25. This was disgusting to watch.
I was appalled. And it all seemed so easy to get away with it.
I also have this theory concerning the election fraud.
If Rove or anyone else was fixing the numbers for Ohio, they might have wanted to have a gap as big as the one in Florida in order to avoid a recount. The only problem is that they might have fixed them too early and not enough as voters in mainly democratic areas were voting late into the night (I remember reading somewhere as late as 1am). This led to the difference being only 160 000 instead of 300 000 as in Florida. Or maybe I'm wrong and * won legitimately ah ah arghh arghh!

27. It's time for a change
to a convenient and fair system of casting ballots. Oregon has statewide mail-in voter ballots and it works. You receive your ballot by mail approximately 2 weeks prior to the election, complete it, and mail or drop at an official designated site by Nov. 2. You sign your ballot envelope and the signature is matched against the original registration to verify. Now, how simple is that? And this system provides a paper trail and encourages a high percentage of voter turnout.

There is absolutely no good reason for a registered voter to be required to personally appear at a precinct. Just look at these videos. A shortage of parking space, poor weather conditions, incorrect precinct info, standing on-line for hours, machine breakdowns (dubious machines, at that), hours missed from work. Does this system not automatically disenfranchise the disabled, ill and elderly who cannot physically tolerate such a lengthy process?

I would seriously suggest anyone who has been subjected to this insanity start lobbying your state now for a simplified mail-in ballot.
