"Self-serving individuals press vote challenges"
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 05:40 PM by EMunster

...A newspaper needs to hear from you...

This is running in about a half-dozen papers in Ohio.

12-23-04

EDITORIALS

Let's bring an end to the ludicrous challenges to the Ohio election results.

Self-serving politicians and conspiracy theorists without any real leg to stand on continue to claim election fraud and incompetence.

Claims that have been answered over and over again continue to be spread on the Internet.

A double count of a handful of precincts in Sandusky County? A non-factor that was addressed before the official count was completed and had virtually no effect on the margin. Yet it continues to be mentioned as evidence of voting problems.

Democrats continue to complain that many ballots in Montgomery County showed no vote for president, apparently intimating that those ballots would all have been for Kerry. Turns out there was an electrical malfunction, and the counts were made and Republicans benefited.

Not much of a conspiracy....

2. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but
what you can do for your country!" If that is self-serving so be it!

3. So THAT explains it!
Turns out there was an electrical malfunction, and the counts were made and Republicans benefited.

Well, shit, all that work for nothing. If only we had known it was so simple.

A reply to "Self-serving individuals press vote challenges"

It must be embarrassing to be a patriotic American living in Ohio today, particularly given the lack of any journalistic integrity by newspapers like yours.

The evidence for election theft is rampant in Ohio (and many other states), Blackwell still refuses to answer any of the questions in the 16 page letter sent to him a month ago by the House Judiciary Committee, he violated at least three Ohio and federal laws in the "recount" farce, Triad technicians tampered with vote counting machinery in a number of counties prior to the "recount" and still you keep saying to your readers: "Nothing to see here. Move along."

The Hocking County charade would be comical if it weren't so typically sinister. In an effort to determine whether tampering with the vote counting machine by Triad prior to the recount had occurred in Hocking County, local prosecutors and police allowed the technician to "demonstrate" what he had done to "prove" that no wrongdoing occurred. (Of course, no one but him and his bosses really know what he did the first time, but that seems to be beside the point.)

It seems that we now have a solution to rampant crime of all types in Ohio and the U.S. Just let accused criminals re-enact their crime to prove that they had done nothing wrong. Problem solved.

Just how venal are Ohio officials and how stupid are Ohio media that you believe that this sham proved anything? What it is proving to the rest of us in the U.S. is that trusting the fate of our country's election process to Ohio political leaders and journalists is the worst thing we can do. See you folks in court or in the streets -- SOON.

We will take our country back from this fascist coup with too many accomplices. A free and fair vote is the bedrock of our democracy and no amount of stalling will keep us from learning the truth -- that everyone's vote everywhere was disrespected by the Bush administration. They will go down in history as the most incompetent, corrupt and treasonous administration we have ever seen, north of the Mexican border.

10. Better to write your own. You appear to have the energy for it
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 06:38 PM by Fly by night
what with your perpetual bouncing balls and your 800 posts in a week. (I've been posting for a month and haven't yet broken 80.) Surely you have time to write another letter of your very own and post it here for the rest of us to see. N'est pas?

8. here is what i sent
Regarding your editorial about the recent election in Ohio, why do significant exit poll-vote tally discrepancies in the Ukraine merit serious investigation but in the US they are not worthy of study? Is the integrity of the democratic process somehow more important in the Ukraine than it is here?

I will "move on", when there is a recount of the vote in Ohio in which the majority of election boards do not get to cherry pick the precincts which are recounted in order to save themselves the bother of a manual recount.

12. Sent mine, too
Regarding your "ludicrous" editoral on the possible election fraud:

I'll move on as soon as you can prove to me that
A.) the machines were accessed remotely;
B.) that Triad, who supports Republicans, can prove that their technicians did not do anything untoward (honestly, re-demonstrating something technical to non-technical people isn't proving anything) and C.) that the media might finally get a clue.
It's not about "political games" - it's about people's right to vote. It's not about Bush or Kerry or the Greens or the Libertarians - it's about democracy.
Why don't you try acting like a newspaper and QUESTION government instead of taking their word for everything?
The Fourth Estate is losing its ability to protect the average person - in this case the voter - by continuing to call us names (ludicrous, game-players... etc.).
Where did you get your journalism degree? Because they certainly taught you nothing of the history of the profession.

13. Sent my polite response
about Blackwell obstructing justice, the exit polls, the fact that only one county out of 88 complied with the law that states "precincts recounted will be chosen at RANDOM," etc. I am also getting tired of writing letters!

I said we are not conspiracy theorists. We are trying to save our democracy. We deserve better than people taking office due to coup attempts.

And, why are they SO damn worried about it if they have nothing to hide? The main reason it drags on is because of the officials in Ohio in the first place. ARGH!

Surprising how just 5 little changes totally reverses this piece, which otherwise stands solidly as a anti-fraud piece (instead of the pro-fraud it is!) ;^)

Self-serving individuals SUPpress vote challenges

EDITORIALS
Let's bring an end to the ludicrous challenges to the Ohio election results.

Self-serving politicians and conspiracy theorists without any real leg to stand on continue to DENY election fraud and incompetence.

Claims that have been unanswered over and over again continue to be spread on the Internet.

<snip>

Nonetheless, unanswerable questions continue to be asked.

Why did more people vote for Bush than some people expected? Why didn't the exit polls match the election results?

Some expect the Ohio Secretary of State to respond to the questions, and if Kenneth Blackwell's answer isn't satisfactory, they turn up the heat.

The truth is that many of these people raising issues know there were proportionately no more problems this year than in other years -- an unsurprising fact since some groups created an atmosphere that invited trouble.

Far too many of these complainers are simply playing political games.

It's time to move on and take back our democracy!
