VT electors call for contest of OH electoral votes
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 06:21 PM by pointsoflight
Vermont Electors Request Senators and Congressperson to Refuse to Certify Ohio Electors
Dec. 15 (EIRNS)--VERMONT ELECTORS DENOUNCE UNCONSTITUTIONAL RESTRICTION OF RIGHT TO VOTE; CALL FOR CONGRESS TO TAKE UP VALIDITY OF OHIO VOTE. The following resolution is in the process of adoption by the three certified electors of the state of Vermont. It is expected to be released to the public on Monday. The full text follows:

- Resolution - WHEREAS our democracy depends on fair elections; and WHEREAS troubling questions have been raised about the integrity of Ohio's 2004 presidential election by many members of Congress; and WHEREAS the Ohio vote was marred by significant irregularities, discrepancies, anomalies and other problems as disclosed by US Representative John Conyers, and a number of members of the House Judiciary Committee and elsewhere in the Congress, and WHEREAS the Government Accounting Office is undertaking a systematic and comprehensive review of election irregularities in Ohio, Florida, New Mexico and certain other states, the Congress having received about 57,000 complaints about voting machine breakdowns, inaccuracies, intimidation, suppression and other and similar violations of voter rights, and WHEREAS unequal and discriminatory voter access and treatment, as may have occurred in Ohio and elsewhere, violate the Equal Protection guarantee of the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment and would call into question the validity of Elector certification from Ohio and certain other states under the Electoral Count Act (3 USC S5) and the teachings of Bush v. Gore, and as a result the Congress could decide that Elector votes from Ohio and certain other states were not "regularly given" by properly certified Electors under the Act (3 USC S15), and WHEREAS the Congress could determine the validity of Electoral college votes from Ohio and certain other states following receipt by the Senate President of Objections from at least one member of the house and one member of the Senate, and WHEREAS as citizens and Electors, we are committed to fair elections and equal voting rights for all,

THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that that Senators Jeffords and Leahy and Representative Sanders (1) give due and sufficient consideration to the results of the ongoing investigation of voting irregularities in Ohio's 2004 presidential election; (2) support the GAO's inquiry into and review of thousands of reports of systemic and other 2004 voting and election deficiencies; (3) sponsor or otherwise support legislation (a) mandating paper records, trails, or backups for all absentee ballots under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), (b) uniform rules for the issuance and tabulation of provisional and absentee ballots under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), and (c) sufficient funding for full and fair implementation of HAVA; and (4) if warranted by evidence of widespread violations of voter constitutional rights in the 2004 election in Ohio and certain other states, as now appears, under 3 U.S.C S15 on the ground that such Electoral certifications are invalid and that, as a result, these Electoral votes were not regularly given by qualified, legal elections.''

32. Thank you for the information!
On the continuing question of "How do you audit a vapor vote?"

Is E-Voting ME-Voting? Prove it!

This is the case the the Main Stream Media won't go near. instead they will talk about Scott Peterson for hours, or some puppy down a well when the real story....the one they won't touch....is that democracy is under attack by hackers.

41. My point is . . .
. . . the electors who were speaking up in North Carolina were not the Republican electors who were actually voting. They were the Democratic electors who would have been voting had Kerry won NC. They were protesting outside.

60. Letter to Vermont Guardian. Hoorah to the Electors! Kick!
I just went to the Vermont Guardian site, linked by "pointsoflight" above, and wrote them a letter:

"Dear Editor: I've just found your article, 'Electors call for national voting reforms' on line, through democraticunderground.com, and I want to thank you for it. It reveals that 2004 presidential Electors in Vermont and several other states, including my own state of California, are objecting to the vote suppression and election fraud in Ohio, and are asking Congress not to accept the Ohio Bush Electors. This is a very important news story and I did not see it elsewhere. I'm finding that the small independent local papers like yours and the Lone Star Iconoclast in Crawford, Texas, are the only honest and reliable mainstream news sources in the country. I applaud you!"

They sound like a kickass paper. Other titles on that page: "International Atomic Energy chief makes Bush hit list," "Thousands have deserted Iraq war," "Army blacklists Denver newspaper," and "Police chief says drug war has failed." They also advertiste "Bee Balm" products (great stuff!).

We need to support newspapers like this. They are rare jewels inside the Iron Curtain of the Bush Propaganda Machine.

This is the kind of thing that starts to roll. If 5 have already done this, there's a pretty good chance 5 or even 15 more will by Jan. 6. Wouldn't THAT be something! I wonder how congress will react to a couple hundred of the presidential electors telling them they smell something fishy??

22. This article was posted in the Vermont Guardian, apparently, on Dec. 22
At first I thought it might have been December 15.

They expressed concerns about a reported 57,000 complaints. Also a great quote in there about Justice delayed is justice denied.

In California, one elector cast his ballot provisional upon “all votes being counted — provisional, absentee, under- and over-votes, computerized without paper ballots, even getting valid votes from those turned away illegally, intimidated, discouraged by incredibly long waits, etc.”

This is an attempt to get the message read on the floor of Congress prior to certification on Jan. 6, when the ballots are opened.

“Never has such a vote been cast by an elector,” said Grace Ross, an organizer of the national effort to support electors to take action, and a member of Truth in Elections. “And without a parliamentarian to rule it in or out at the Electoral College level, we await whether Congress will acknowledge this type of provisional vote and address the issues this elector sought to raise, or whether they, too, will ignore provisional votes.”

In North Carolina, Democratic electors and activists talked about local problems while Republicans voted inside. Elector Mary Roe mentioned problems she witnessed as an election observer in her own county. State officials admit that 4,500 votes disappeared in a computerized voting machine crash.

We DON'T KNOW how the "red"states voted--and I will make no judgments of them until we have fair, honest, and transparent election results from the 2004 election, or a re-vote. Personally, I think that many of these states rejected Bush Inc., if the truth were known.

Not too far from me either. Yes....

Can you feel the tsunami. Is it becoming obvious to people here what we are witnessing? Bush will wish he wasn't Re-Selected. After all the investigating he will stand their in the now Black House, and be no more than an ineffectual icon. Sure he can still damage the country. It's the only thing he understands.

Creating is for a different breed of human being. Ever see kids build a sand castle, and then all of a sudden a shitty brat comes by and destroys it? That's sums up the mentality of the Right-Wing and over-privileged Douche bags like Hubris-George.

I hope this story "sticks" and is elevated to the national level.

I just spent the last 24 hours in a hotel with my kids (so my husband, aka Santa, could assemble our children's Christmas presents/toys at home). The only news to which I had access was CNN. I heard NOTHING about the election-fraud issues, or Kerry's involvement.

However, CNN did have some riveting stories. Daren Kagan had Karen Tumulty and other reporters discuss if certain celebrities were "naughty or nice". They ranked historical figures like Paris Hilton and Janet Jackson. Thinking that Larry King may offer some political conversation, I was disappointed to find that King's guest was Jack Hannah and a great horned owl.

I gave up and watched Sponge Bob.

This is momentous, as only Kerry can show irrepreable harm , contrasted to Cobb, as Kerry could be shown a winner, where Cobb , others cannot. Also, the DNC has said they will unlock funds to pay for Kerry's effort in Ohio. This is news. Will the major networks broadcast this?
